Rooch speculates that Bassett is getting Nicks job, which opens up a defensive post at Port. So it likely comes down to who he thinks will serve his long-term career better. I imagine we'll probably cheap out on the salary too, which won't help our chances.I have a feeling Port will get him.. just cos Nicks has gone and there's a vacancy already

And a lot of the bad onesAll the best coaches are a little bit crazy
He adds being a prick into the mix too though. All the best coaches are a little bit crazy
I'd love to see Bassett as our assistant coach in defence, and Mattner as the assistant in charge of the midfield.
But, yes... both are definitely "boys club" appointments. Some of the attempts to redefine the term, in order to exclude him from the club, are simply laughable. Of course he's a member of the "boys club".

Being an ex-player shouldn't be seen as a good thing, or a bad thing. If they are the best person for the job, then they should be hired regardless of where they spent their playing career.Bringing in an ex-player is good for club culture (providing it's on merit). We shouldn't disqualify someone on the grounds they once played for us and/or know current staff.

KT at Port is a massive fan of Bass, I think if Hinkley goes soon (which is unlikely) Bass would be a big chance.
Bloody oath. I had one that was cool as a cucumber. Me and the lads had a big night on the turps before a game because we thought we'd cruise to victory. All the best coaches are a little bit crazy

Down by 4 goals at 1/2 time, he's gone the Blighty on Riccardi and shaken the crap out of me and said wake up or play the next half from the bench.
Every time I hear Mattner, I just remember an SANFL (2002 Grand?) Final and a run along the member's wing and a fantastic accurate long kick for goal. One of the best individual passages of play I had seen. (However as I am writing this, I hope I have the correct player. Getting old ).
Just a shame we didn't see more of him in a Crows jumper.You_Were_There right?
He’s gone DB, he deserves a crack in an AFL system, we’re lucky we got three years. Please leave Marty Mattner alone
