You would think Bellenger would be silly not to continue on his work from this year into next after the progress they have made this year.

Avoca will be the first to admit that Fieldy is hardly signed, sealed and delivered for next year!
He's taken them a long way this year. Another year will be probably needed to get what he wants. Plus a few recruits.

Coghlan would be little chance to play next year. You'd think Rebels would have to pick him up. He's had a good year at senior level football.

Makes a mockery of the award though IMO. Club B&Fs are always a far truer indication of player performance for the year.

If the count was closer then more questions would be asked. I understand why it happens its just a bone of contention/annoyance for me!
In some clubs that do it right I would say that is true. I know for a fact there are a few clubs around that tailor the votes at the end of a season to see the right person get up.

What's everyones thoughts for Prelim final wkend??

Harcourt, Trentham & Maldon are all through to the Granny in the 3 respective grades.

Seniors: Brook v Avoca - played a cracking qualifying final 2 weeks ago which could have gone either way on the day. Avoca will gain a lot of confidence after disposing of Talbot on the weekend and finally breaking their MCDFL finals hoodoo. I expect Avoca to account for brook and advance to the grand final.

Reserves: Brook v Talbot - very surprising result that saw Trentham beat flag favourites brook. Talbot fought hard and eventually ran over Harcourt in the final quarter to advance this week. Talbot may benefit from the seniors being knocked out with the inclusion of a couple of senior players. Promises to be a cracking game with all the pressure on the brook.... I predict Talbot to get over the line in a close one!

Under 17s: Brook v Newstead - Brook has had the wood on them all year and I expect that to continue. Newstead rely too heavily on their top tier players whilst the Brook has more of an even spread!

I think you could be right there King Rich. Avoca will have gained a lot of confidence after their win. Finishing like that would make them very confident in their abilities.

Carisbrook would be disappointed losing from that sort of lead. It will be a test of their character to get over Avoca.

I'm tipping Brook to be up at the half, Avoca to finish strongly for a 1 goal win.

What a great pick up for Avoca.

Maybe Wonker can provide us some information as the rumour is that Tony has refused to sign for a second year. I would have thought with Julian Field coming back and his reported posse of players a flag would be guaranteed.
I can say with near certainty that Tony will coach the Avoca club next season. As for Julian Field - you wouldn't believe it. He was judged BOG in Redan's upset win over Sunbury last weekend. With East doing its usual finals choke, Redan will be well and truly in with a chance to go back-to-back. The upshot of all this is that Julian may feel that he is still playing too well to contemplate a drop back in standard. With Avoca in the finals the club hasn't had a chance to chat with him. When Julian returns to the club he has indicated that he will be too busy with his work to even think about coaching. So there is no conflict of interest between him and Tony on that issue. The club is just hopeful that it will get the chance to see these two champion people playing side by side in the Red, White and Blue stripes.

A great night for the club at the vote count - congratulations to Tony. He has been like a breath of fresh air. He was a run away winner in Avoca's B&F as well. That makes it a tally of seven club B&F's he has collected over his decorated career. The only thing that has alluded him over that time is a Senior premiership and the club will be working hard to try and help him to achieve his ultimate goal. He coached Wandella to runners-up a couple of season's ago and I know that he wishes that club well in their grand final on Saturday

The club took out the overall champion club award which is based on the finishing positions of our football and netball teams at the end of the season.

Any tribunal results yet for Whitehead and Wybenga? The league is really fu<king around with these 2 trials.[/quote]

The hearings were conducted at the Rovers clubrooms last Wednesday night. Wybenga was up first being reported on two separate ocassions by two different umpires for abusive language. It was a tough night for him as no one from the Bushy club turned up to support him or advise him on how to conduct his case. It probably didn't help his cause when he opened proceedings by stating that his behaviour was due to the frustration he experiences at the inconsistent performances of the umpiring fraternity in the MCDFL. He copped two weeks and two suspended on the first charge then copped another two weeks and two suspended on the second. I wouldn't be surprised to see him at another club next season.
Big Justin defended himself and managed to come away with a straight two weeks penalty.

Bellenger was a runaway winner on 33 votes. Mark Ramsey runner up on 15.

Reserves was won by Beare from Trentham with Brasser runner up.

Bellenger was a worth winner but the count was tarnished a little, IMO, by some pretty dubious votes given.

Numerous times Trentham and Dunolly players were given votes when they shouldn't have. 3 examples I can recall off the top of my head:

1)Carisbrook v Trentham - A Trentham player was awarded BOG. Now i haven't checked back at the results but I assume his was a 100+ flogging.

2)Talbot v Trentham - A Trentham player was given 2 votes when we beat them by 200+ points.

3)Talbot v Dunolly - Dunolly player got 1 vote and we won by 150+ points.

This is not taking away from Bellenger at all as he was a favourite and a worthy winner but it must surely take the shine off it for him and others when votes like this are being submitted by umpires. I also will add that the umpires are invited every year to attend and never turn up.

Overall was a good night again at the Highland Society. Guest Speaker Dean Rice was a reasonable speaker, meal was ok, beer was cold and there was a good crown turnout.
Well done Bob Beare winning the Maggoos BF, Has been around the Football circles for a long while now.Won a league BF in the BFL 2's a couple of years ago if people no Bob like i do he would have served Trentham very well this year All the best for the GF Trentham:thumbsu:

Mick Noonan won the best and fairest Sat night which i thought was assured.
David Stynes was runner up, hope we retain his services next year!
Nathan Britten won the magoos award from Gerrard Jamieson and Jammo also won the players award.
Patty Jenes won the seniors players award too.

Get on trentham in the 2's, go the underdogs!!

A cop putting a guy in a sleeper hold gets 2 weeks? I was told by someone very high up the MCDFL ranks that he would be getting 16 weeks.

C'mon Rich, these awards are given for the 3 best (and supposedly fairest) players on the ground as judged by the umps..
The winning margin and/or winning team doesn't neccessarily have a bearing on the 3 most outstanding players on a given day, although it often does..
In fact, i would think it is common for a star player to stand out individually when more of their teammated struggled, while a dominant team may spread the load more evenly and therefore not have the dominant individual players..
Surely you can see through your trusty brown and gold goggles and see this what often happens??

Yeah Sockit i partially agree but the shear weight of numbers suggests if shouldn't be the case. In some of these games the opposition players simply dont touch the ball enough to be judged in the top 3. The winning sides' players gain that many more possessions that the opposition that it is ridiculous to think that an opposition player in a 200 point flogging could be in the best 3 players. Yes i agree on occassions they could be, but not as often as it happened on Monday night.

As usual you put forward a good response Rich and as i didn't see any games first hand i have nothing more to add.. Pleased you could see my point though..

Thanks thoroughbred - always try to be honest and informative. Your posts have also made for good reading. I haven't got a clue who you are or where you are from. You've done well to keep yourself anonymous for so long.
Should be a great game on Saturday - Avoca v C'Brook. Carisbrook will no doubt go into the match as favorites. Once again we will all be a little bit wiser as to the outcome at around 5p.m. on Saturday.

did bench and wills play agst avoca if they did and i herd they werent real fit may be thats why rich and his boys ran out of legs agst the barberpole boys
Willsy was never going to play - injury is definately threatening to end his long and illustrious career. Benchy was a late withdrawal from the side which made Talbot's task a little harder.
I wonder whether Talbot will reappoint them as joint coaches for 2008

My tip is Avoca. They finished strong against Talbot and should have their tails up.

Willsy hadn't played for the majority of the second half of the season. Benchy was a late withdrawal. Obviously both would have been handy to have in.
