I find it very disappointing for those clubs and comittees that have worked very hard over the years to recruit good players / coaches only to see them jump of the bandwagon and move to somewhere else to get that elusive premiership. I understand that nothing stay's the same and people move on for various reasons, but the best premierships to win are those where it has taken a couple of years to build and achieve. I hope all clubs in the MCDFL are able to maintain as many of their list as possible and top up with some key players where needed. When clubs lose 10-15 players in one season it makes it very hard to rebuild again, it also shows that those players have'nt come to the clubs with the right intentions.
Fair call. I can't see many teams losing players from the MCDFL this year. Brook might have a couple would you think LTM? Avoca, Harcourt, Talbot, Maldon and Rovers I would expect to keep fairly similar lists. As I would Brook. Chipper would be highly sort after by Ballarat and CHFL sides so he would be hard to keep.

Sometimes it is often the club that causes people to leave though. I'm not saying any of the clubs in the league are poorly managed as people always bust their ass to get things done, but there are always differences in opinions between players, officials, supporters and etc.

We would expect plenty of competition for his services, but he did enjoy his year and we will be working overtime to keep him. I do keep in regular contact with him and some of the other boy's so we will see.

He's a great pickup and the fact that he's playing with a few mates and Chief sometimes that is all that matters.

Yeah you could be right regarding the ass. coach. Castlemaine sound like they will be hurting next yr.
Is that Maldon's 3rd coach in 3 years? Every preseason they seem like they are goin to have a decent crack. They recruit well but seem to lose last years recruits. The Committee would have to be looking for finals footy soon. They probably have the best home ground advantage in the league and if they could win most home games and a few away games they would be in the hunt.

Talbot should have minimal, if any, departures and will hopefully improve on the list.

I have heard a very very very strong rumour that J-mac to Dunolly. You would think he will bring along some highly fancied players from Natte to shake up the comp next year. You could mark him down for a ton already unless he plays himself in the guts. My theory is he will make a huge name for himself as a playing coach the next couple of years then hit up the major comps in town

There is a good chance of your theory being correct Whacker. Ressurecting Dunolly would be a huge feather in his cap.

If I had to put money on a MCDFL club it would be Talbot. The word on the street is that J-Mac and a very highly sought after country footballer will be co-coaches next season at the Hawks. It wouldn't take much to improve that current list to be a serious contender for the flag.

You would expect 2008 to be their year. They woud be very disappointed getting a quality player like Brown and not making the 5. But at this point of the year, everyone is saying 2008 will be their year. I am yet to hear a club in September saying "We'll take it easy next year and won't worry about finals"

There is a lot of water to go under the bridge until round 1 next year. Deals fall through as people make rash decisions and promises at this time of the year.

I'm starting to think this deserves it's own thread and poll. The LPFL thread had a fair bit on this too. Maybe Crank could give some odds.

You must know something the rest of us don't Crank. That's the first we've all heard of Melton on this board.

If I had some of my imaginary $1000 left I would be putting it heavily in East Point and any other team.

Yes well maybe I do. Have heard that is one of the clubs that have approached him. Can anyone tell me who got best on in the seniors grand final last week?

I'd probably right off Talbot, especially for just a co-coach job. If its MCDFL it will be Dunolly, He has said seeing his old footballing home suffer so poorly on the field is whats going to bring him back. He wont be too worried about ressurecting Dunolly either. Just watch the transfer of players if he goes there (10+). A lot to gain from going to Dunolly, a bit to loose if he goes to Talbot.

From what i heard the BFL job is now more likely than Dunolly, but at this stage its all rumour. It will unravel itself soon ;)

Surely u are joking.. More to lose at Talbot than Dunolly??? IF he were to come to Talbot he would be a massive chance of grabbing a premiership.... Dunolly would need a massive amount of work on and off the field to get it anywhere near that level!

I think he means if Jmac was to bring Dunolly back from the brink of folding, to being a very competitive side he would get more personal glory for himself. As opposed to Talbot who are already a very competitive side which he wouldnt have to do much to.:D

Exactly.

But also he'd be going out there by himself + a few, as opposed to Dunolly where it will be 10+ (Hutchins, Brady ect.) But my main point was for less personal glory.

Well we will have to agree to disagree. Personally I believe any coach who takes on Dunolly has a massive task in front of them. Probably a better task for a seasoned, experienced coach at the back end of his career rather than a young up and coming coach. Just my opinion. Who knows where he will end up!

The word of players coming back to Dunolly has done the rounds for a few years. In all honesty they are miles off the pace and would need 10+ minimum handy footballers to even be competitive and push for a finals spot. I do hope they recruit well and can become more competitive I just think that it will take a lot of work and is more likely something that will happen over 2-3 years,,,,, not 1.

From what i've scene dunolly have got everything into line out there except for the onfeild success of the senior grades of football. While it is a big task for any coach to come into and build into a successfull team, it is not as bad a situation as it may look. J-Mac has everything needed to get on feild success and the 10+ players who look likely to sign next year are all quality and would give the club the biggest chance at sucess they have had since they went down to avoca 10 years ago. Also i think you'd find that if/once Jmac and a few key players sign alot more will jump on board because they will see that dunolly is getting back to the great football and social club it once was.:thumbsu:

Thats it

The main part of what im saying is, its either top 3 or 4 on the ladder or last for Dunolly senior football next year. Make or break. Think its break but with the BFL job sounding good for j-mac.
