Anyone got any news on the Avoca ground??
They are playing a prac match there this weekend against Boort and just wondering if the ground is up to scratch playing wise. Grass cover? Hardness?

Ablett, looking forward to hosting you guys on the weekend. The ground at Avoca is in great condition and is green unlike most others at the moment.

Should be a good hitout as we have a number of new players and are looking forward to testing ourselves against a team from a stronger league.

With the season drawing close (Hopefully) and having seen most of the ins and outs for most clubs its probably a good time to try and pick the ladder for this season. Be interesting to see everyones thoughts:

For me the top 1-2 is pretty well set but from then on it becomes a lottery. Very tough to pick:

Harcourt: Only lost Thompsons. Haven't picked up many but will be strong.
Carisbrook: Only major loss in Field and from all reports are training well and have recruited well.
Talbot: Have retained most of last years list and have recruited many old and new faces. Training well.
Avoca: Will fight for 3rd spot with Talbot. Have recruited reasonably well but think the loss of Robinson will hurt them in the middle.
Newstead: With Christmas gone, Oliver and Tunn retiring you would think they will find it hard to kick goals. Still a good enough list to play finals.
Rovers: A few key outs for them and not many ins. Will still be in the mix.
Maldon: Could be anything with the reported quality of their recruits. Will win quite a few at home but may struggle on the road.
Royal Park: The loss of Egan will hurt a lot. I think they will be similar to last year but with the comp becoming more even will probably drop a few positions
Trentham: Another team that could be anything. Apparently have recruited quality but its a long way for them to climb. Are a potential finals outfit if it all clicks. Cautious approach suggests between 4-8 wins though.
Dunolly: Another struggling year for Dunolly, will fight it out for the spoon with Creek.
Creek: I think they could be as poor as Trentham in 06.
Nice work Rich.

The loss of Robbo(s) will hurt us but with Mick Wardlaw back at the club and raring to go I think we will be able to cover the loss of Terry. Also Trevor Field is burning up the track at the moment and looking fitter than ever. Still Have a couple of possible signings....

Is it true that Natte are playing Carisbrook in a practice match this weekend? If so it will give a fair indication of how the two leagues compare as both should be top 3 sides this season.

I think Rovers will definitley miss Sellers. Many of their set plays were based around his long kicking.

Maldon will have a big hole to fill with the losses of Ladigies, Vagg, and Loudon. I know when we played them those three cut us up through the middle and up forward. They have got alot of recruits though so maybe they will fill the gap nicely.

Good coverage of green grass, maybe a little dry and hard around the boundary and in the goal squares. Most of the guys at training have been wearing footy boots for the last few weeks.

King: There is still alot of clearances not put in yet, that I know of, Possibly Talbot are all ready to go, But I know of a Number of players coming into the league still but haven't lodged clearances as yet. Note Rovers haven't submitted one, but there is a number coming.
Wouldn't want to wait much longer to submit a clearance for this season coz if other clubs play funny buggers they wont be ready for round 1! Meant to be quite a bit of rain Friday night and Saturday so hopefully that allows the season to get under way on time!

Just thought I'd throw something up for discussion Mont! Feel free to disagree!

Any MCDFL clubs got any praccy matches coming up over the next couple of weekends.

Talbot are travelling to Moyston this weekend with a very inexperienced line-up. Should be a good road trip!

Avoca is competing against Boort tomorrow Sat 24th at the Avoca Public Park. The ground is in reasonable condition and the pitch is covered after the cricket club's A grade team covered itself in glory by winning the premiership a couple of week's ago. Next Sunday 1st April the Avoca club will play Moyston/Willaura - once gain the match will be at home. All grades of football and netball I believe. You might be able to soften them up a bit for the Avoca boys King.
P.S. The surprise recruit turned up for training last night I am told. Apparently he won't be competeing in Saturday's praccy match but will be back at training next week. The question - is can Avoca snag him? And King if you see Hydey can you tell him we need reinforcements on the Gold Coast.
Waubra is also looking to use the Avoca ground to play one of its practice matches on. Great mob of blokes down Waubra way. Hope the Avoca club can see its way clear to make its ground available to them.

Heads up here fellas. The season won't start on time. The league won't risk injuries and will just follow Bendigo/Ballarat leagues by starting on May 5th. Won't be enough rain in the next week to change the situation.

Talbot took a very young and undermanned side to Moyston. We played 5 quarters in the end and would of won by approx 100 points in blustery conditions. They only had a handful of decent footballers.
Our best were probably Willsy, Nath Bond, Roger Davies, Jay Cameron and Dav Roche.

I heard Boort beat Avoca 13.8 - 2.9 or something similar to that. Boort had a handy side on the park so I hear.

What sort of side did Avoca have in? Who were the standouts? Happy with the performance Shamui/Wonker?
We managed to Field two full sides playing 3 qtrs each. Still missing a few players due to the B-grade cricketers playing off in the GF, as well as Pazz and Bianca's wedding.

Boort are a pretty well drilled team, lots of hard running players. We played well in patches with some promising signs. Stand out players would've been Mick Wardlaw, Tony Bellenger, Hammo, both vietchy's. Overall we can take alot out of the hit-out and maybe try a couple of different things against Moyston-Willaura this week.

You can throw Alex Gordon-Cooke in their also Shamui, was very good in the ruck.

Great player & a great bloke too. Meg’s is a very good clubman who you will find will do a lot & will be only too happy to help out around the club wherever he can. (Just as long as he can have a beer as he does it!) He’ll fit in well & be well liked. He certainly won’t be one of those guys that plays his game then leaves. You’ll find him having a beer after every match & training session. Great guy. If he’s as fit as everyone says then expect him to have a big impact. He doesn’t have a nasty streak but don’t expect him to pull out of a contest. Exceptional skills for a big man. He’s a fantastic forward & a better ruckman than what people give him credit for. He won games for brook in ruck. If he was still at Brook I’d expect us to beat Harcourt & win the flag this year. That’s how highly I rate him.

Yep, on the money there bucko. He put in a very impressive game, could prove to be a handy recruit.....top bloke as well.

Dom didn't play on the weekend, I believe family commitments kept him in Melbourne. Hopefully he will pull on the boots this weekend.

Has the openeing round definitiley been put back to may 5th?

So Talbot won't be much different to last few years then Rich, as the same better players were in the best.
