Jason Holmes was the first 'proper' American to debut.

Holmes first played Australian rules football for St Kilda's developmental team, Sandringham, in the Victorian Football League (VFL). On August 22, 2015, he became the first born and raised American to debut in the AFL.[6] Holmes lined up at the position of ruck and his debut included a game-high 34 hit outs in St Kilda's 97-all draw with Geelong. He played the final three games of the home and away season. He was delisted at the conclusion of the 2017 season.[7]

Mason Cox (born March 14, 1991) is an American professional Australian rules footballer who plays for the Collingwood Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Playing as a ruckman and key forward, he first played Australian rules football in April 2014 before making his AFL debut just two years later in April 2016.

Everyone cries about AFL players having no personality an then anyone steps outside line an they get smashed
It’s like clockwork. Every player is a boring upright plank of wood until they show an ounce of confidence and personality then they become arrogant, annoying, a tosser etc.

I have no interest in their ‘personalities’. I’m interested in their ability to play football and nothing more. Why do we think we can turn footballers into comedians, raconteurs, social commentators etc just because they know how to kick a ball?

Do you have friends who are charismatic an funny? In a group of ~1000 their our bound to be a few hilarious an interesting blokes.
Just because they can kick a ball doesn't mean they should be boring PC robots to please people like you who supposedly don't care anyway

No, I’m the funny and charismatic one ;)

Look, if a player can be interviewed about football and manage to be amusing, well and good. But I have no interest in elevating them because of it. As you say, every group has funny members so they’re hardly special. If I want comedy or biting satire, I’ll watch a comedian who knows how to do it right.
