You talk about momentum in games, that moment when Cox passed off in the 4th, and completely fvct it, inexplicably, infruriatingly, was the momentum shifter for us. When it happened I thought we were stuffed. As it turned out I reckon it fired Cox up, made him want to make amends for the mistake. His efforts, the smother, the contested marks, the front and centres. That won it for us in the end. If you f ck up at least make good. Cox did.
His last quarter is what needs to become the norm, his rest of the game (Q1/2/3) needs to become an off night rather then most nights. If he can do that then he will become a premier KPF.

The last quarter he was the dominant big man and helped win us the game.

Dogs supporting friend texted me after the game: Cox is just too tall and too hard to beat when fatigue kicks in.

We dont always appreciate what he is and what he does. Sure, we'd love him to hold more of the contested marks, when he has three opposition players spoiling and crowding him, and for the umps to pay more of the frees that he deserves. And more of the first half of the prelim final.

But that wont happen every week, and Cox is evolving into an extraordinary asset.

I thought in general the use of Cox was better last night. Kicking to his advantage improved. C Brown's kick to Adams was sublime and Adam's follow up kick to Cox in the last quarter was good too.

I missed the 4th quarter; golf season opened today. From the first 3 quarters I was not impressed except for some good bumps to clear space. What happened in q4?

And the head pat was bush league unless there was something between them from earlier in the match.
You must be spitting you missed the 4th qtr, we actually played football. Couple kicks to Cox at the top of the goal square, ball goes to ground and a crumbing goal. He took a couple marks on the wing.

First 3qtrs were torture to watch, 4th made the night bearable.

He’s a 4th qtr specialist, we’ just get a bit frustrated he doesn’t do it earlier in matches.

Cal’s kick to Adams was a complete shank. 100% unintended. We laughed in the stand because I yelled at him to pass to Adams; instead he waited another three seconds, ignored him and ended up kicking to him anyway by accident.

I wonder what bucks will say to him in regards to that attempted pass to De Goey instead of taking a set shot 40m out directly in front lol

other than that, solid night by Coxy.

Correct. I screamed "shank" when it happened. Either that or he has mastered the look-away foot pass.

Id actually love to see him get more UNCONTESTED marks, sign of a great KPF is not only CM it is the ability to get clear on a lead and mark uncontested.

I dunno if that's the type of forward he will ever be, I don't think he has that explosive speed to get a great deal of separation on his opponents, i think his go is the run and jump at the ball, and at his height that is probably the best thing for him and most times it's probably going to be with a defender hot on his heels or in a pack

When he times it well and leads into space he has shown he can do it, even if an opponent does catch him they cant stop the reach and its practically uncontested anyway (but he doesn't do it often enough). Kennedy is one who has high uncontested mix with his contested marks.

With the exception of that terrible pass, I wish he could play like he did in the 4th for a whole game.

not sure if you went to the game. but also the first 3 qtrs. some of our kicking went straight over his head. ( which should be impossible ) so whilst he needs to improve our general game play didn't do him any favours.

Great points.
The question then becomes what can the coaches do to ensure that Cox is “fired up” when he crosses the line in the first quarter?
As an American that has played sport at a high level, I’m amazed that he isn’t in that state from the start.

No, my first impression was it was intended and a beautiful pass.

I was sitting pretty close to that one, and it was very much a shank. A lovely shank, but a shank no less. Adams was in space but Cal was looking to boot it beyond him.
yeah I was sitting along the same wing. and let's just say the moment he kicked there were some choice words coming out of my mouth lol :p ..

He lacked confidence at the start of the season, feel like he's close to having a huge breakout game for 2019 though. People always forget he still hasn't even played 50 games yet, his best is yet to come.

Problem with him getting in more space is we don’t give him any. We are so slow we let the opposition flood back and he generally has at least 2 players holding onto him.

It’s in the last when teams aren’t running as hard he finds that space

Cox, despite his huge size, is easily bumped off the contest.
Something he and the coaches need to work on.
Lost count of the times he was on his arse when the ball was in his region.
Has to learn to keep his feet in the contest.

I think physics comes into play a bit here.
Being so tall means he has a higher center of gravity, much easier to tip over.
Grundy is fortunate in this regard as he has the long torso and big backside and legs which lowers his center of gravity and makes him much more stable. A taller version of the Peter Daicos physique.
