Another article on him...
"If Mason Cox does not sign a contract before October 31 he'll be deported, and resume his American life a different man".

A really good article. Shows that the big fella has the rare gift of being able to apply himself like a maniac to new challenges without taking himself too seriously along the journey. Definitely hope we keep him for a while longer.

And if, the unthinkable happens, and Grundy goes down for the long haul, then Mason is our ruckman.
So valuable cargo in effect

I hope we keep Cox for at least another year. I was sceptical of him getting a senior game, and was proven wrong. The memory of Shae McNamara was too strong. But Mason is obviously cut from a different cloth, and has shown enough for another crack at it. His extreme height compensates for other failings, at least at this stage of his AFL career. Worth keeping.
Definitely a keeper for the next year at least, it's undeniable the improvement he's shown even this year having dominated VFL games, something that would have been laughable not so long ago

Reid structurally has helped, but he doesn't strike me as being a dominant key forward. Only 6 disposals yesterday in a side that was dominant for large parts. He'll kick his goal or two a game, and compete well. He is a good target and his link up work is passable.

I just wonder if Cox can do the same, which means we can use Reid in his best spot which is defence.

The thing Reid has over Mason is his much better defensive work as a forward. He chases better. He also stands taller in marking contests. Doesn't get outbodied....whereas Mason can.

It's an interesting call. But the Roos have a guy by the name of Ben Brown who is 200cm tall, and his arms are almost just as long. He'll make a mockery of Goldsack or Dunn.

I don't think Cox be in a Improvement at all. Does nothing to show that at VFL Level and Keeffe and White are not Good Enough to play AFL and Both should be De-Listed at Seasons End

soft spot for Carlton out of pity
Big Cox will come in this week as the flawed MRP rubs Grundy out for what was a great tackle on Brown.
Looking forward to seeing Cox play in his best position. If Cox makes it at AFL level which and I don't care if he makes it for Essendon or Carlton, I want him to make it, it's as a number 1 ruck pinch hitting forward. I think if he makes it in this position it would obviously be at another club. I reckon he can get the better of Ryder in some aspects of the game, and I think we can cover Ryder with a Cox/Moore combo.

Cox to come in this week, also, I wouldn't be surprized if Reid is dropped again.

Cox will definitely come in if Grundy is suspended but can't see Reid going anywhere.

Gifted a game by the MRP.
Miles away from actual selection on merit.
Can bang down 50-60 hitouts in the VFL playing full time ruck in addition to kicking goals when moved forward. Much like Witts last year I reckon he'd get a gig as a ruckman in several teams. Aren't you the slightest bit curious about how he'd go as a first ruck in the seniors rather than the stupid forward role that he's clearly not suited for at senior level?

What if he gets 30+ hitouts and kicks a goal or two floating forward like Jolly used to do?

How about throw him an opportunity to play regularly as opposed to spontaneously? I would play him for the remainder of the season to see how much he's improved, his ability to cover the ground has dramatically improved this year and he's starting to take some big pack marks. I'd say he's on track to become the second choice big man going forward, given he's a second year player to say the least, when Grundy plays against Melbourne, Cox stays, move Reid into the backline. Cox deserves an opportunity to present himself in that position as second ruckman.

huge opportunity for Cox to get a decent contract if he can perform in the next 2 weeks.

Waldron said on sen the dogs are looking at Tippett. Whilst I think Tippett is better he costs too much and misses too much footy. Cox at half the money is a much better bet.
