Basically there's no more elevator rides at all in the game. So you pick which level you want to go to and there's an animation that plays while that area loads. IGN runs through the new Normandy in the vid below and they show the loading screen.

Also found out today by asking the ME2 Producer that was chatting during the live stream on GT, that if you install the game on the 360 the loading times will be much quicker BUT you still have to switch the discs around, just to verify that you don't have a pirated version of ME2.

I pre-ordered of steam. It was supposed to pre-load 48 hours before release but those pricks at EA or Valve have changed their minds. If You still want to pre-load do the following:

Type this into your IE browser (IE only)
1. "steam://install/24980"
2. "steam://preload/24980"

in that order. It will start downloading, only it won't show you that it's downloading. The only way to tell is to go into your steamapps/mass effect 2 folder and check the size. It should grow until it hits 11 or so gigs and then pop up with the download complete message. The only way to pause or stop the download is to either run a game in steam, or close steam. You can also use frey's steam filter as it's on internode and 3fl at the moment.

You get bonuses depending on what level you are and how Paragon/Renegade you are, but as far as I know you start from scratch again. You might get some Paragon/Renegade points from these bonuses but I'm not 100%. Your appearance will definitely be affected however depending on your previous alignment.

I'm a bit annoyed. I went to pick it up before work today and I pulled out my trusty gift card that I swore had 100 bucks on it but noooooooo it had 0 :-(

I'll have to go back after work because I didn't have enough money on the EFTPOS card at the time.

Doesn't really matter though because I've still got the Virmire mission, the main end mission and a few sidequests to do before finishing ME 1. I literally spent all of Australia day playing ME 1 and watching the cricket. Win.
