I dont think you or any Hawthorn supporter actually understands the situation...

Sure, he's gone to a new level and we didn't utilise what Mass has but at the time it wasn't as if he was setting the world on fire

we offered him a one year deal, Hawks offered two. Not really ground breaking information
Massimo's last four games for the Dons were him starting as the sub. He just turned 20 when he played his last game.

Coming in to this thread, reading some of the above from EFC supporters

Sometimes you just gotta take the L and move on. Not so long ago Geelong was dancing around because we managed to offload Cooper Stephens to the Hawks and they looked like they had nothing coming through.

Things can change quick

Another 30 touches 2 goals on the weekend
quite literally the only reason your posting this is to stir the pot..

I know it's hard to comprehend but Essendon would be reasonably happy with the bloke who is playing the role he was supposed to play for us. Probably leading the RS award imho

Was also just obviously AFL standard from game one. Made absolutely zero sense
Right?

The only knock I had on him early was his size and that he seemed to run himself into trouble.

Sam Mitchell fixed that in one pre season.

nope, business decision

Essendon wanted to keep him, offered one
Hawthorn came knocking, offered him two and went, "yep, ill take job security"

hardly ground breaking stuff tbh
When we signed him i watched some highlights and some of the kicks he hit - even if he wasn't getting a lot of it - warranted more than 1 year.

I'm not trying to rub it in - well i am a little bit - but it's a baffling one

Did you see the Full Sweat doco? Mitchell called him Zoolander because he would always turn one way, to get on his left.

There is a great bit where Sam is telling some lads that practicing easy kicks on the wrong foot is pointless, because you never do it. If you are practicing on your wrong foot, practice hoofing it.

These are some strange takes from you this time Yoda_

Having Roberts play well doesn't make the decision any better - it wasn't one or the other and all clubs can use more good players (of which Massimo is clearly one). Clearly would be a spot for both at Essendon.

It wasn't as though it took any development or fixing weaknesses either - he's been good from Day 1 at the Hawks.

Also, what does "business decision" even mean in this case? I get Hawthorn offered an extra year and Mass took security but that's exactly the problem - it's not as though he wanted out. It would have only taken minimum chips for a club nowhere near salary cap for a young player with obvious promise. You didn't want to offer a second year so gave him away for free (a pick neither club intended to use).

Not try to rub it in either - all clubs make mistakes - hell Hawthorn drafted Billy Hartung a couple of picks ahead of Zach Merrett once upon a time and as raised in this thread already, traded Tom Mitchell for Cooper Stephens (and a middling pick).

Yeah I saw that part and felt so validated hahahaha

Mitchell is a brilliant coach

Really does.
I didn't get the impression he was unhappy...?

I don’t think he was unhappy but given he spent a fair amount of time in the twos or as sub and wasn’t given a consistent role at Essendon. When another club comes knocking saying we’ll play you on the wing and offer your a longer deal than you’re currently on it’s a bit of a no brainer.
