I think he can play AFL. let's see how he progresses further in our program. some clubs aren't convinced.

I'll take the L on this one. I really thought he'd get picked up
Probably a bit slow. Clean and agile though. Would like to see us give him a chance in the rookie draft.
I think the fact Tom McCarthy went pick 1 gives a fair indication of the talent available this MSD. I like him, but be's just a nice VFL player IMO. I cant see him becoming a 100 game AFL player.

At 171cm he would have to be really something special for recruiters to pick him up. I guess they felt he wasn’t.
28 players have kicked just as many or more goals than him in the VFL this year and that’s his one wood.
Probably also didn’t help he didn’t stand out the game before the draft with 0.2 on the scoreboard. If someone was umming and ahhing about him they might have gone elsewhere.

Players these days need to have an elite level of fitness and a 2nd position
Have not watched alot of Raso but he looks like a small foward with limited potential and would need to be ultra elite in that spot like a Betts type to make it.
Good luck to the kid but would need to have a fantastic finish and try again

He can and has ran through the midfield. Against Sandy he had 24 disposals and 9 clearances.
Raso is a nice and handy player but hasn’t consistently been at an AFL level. Think he’ll find his way on an AFL list at some point if he can be more consistent.
Don’t think it’s a coincidence that most of the small forwards picked up in the MSD had runs on the board over multiple seasons.

All of those melts, washed away like tears in the rain
Like we had no idea with Davidson. He puts in for the rest of the season guarantee he gets rookied. Haven’t seen a small forward his calibre coming through the juniors.

Didn’t really see the hype personally
VFL output can be super misleading
Aarts, Townsend, Gibbons all dominated the VFL before getting drafted but ultimately just became OK afl players
With our list spots being somewhat of a premium right now I don’t think we really missed anything

No mate, he has ran through the middle a few times. R1 V Coburg too. He often got midfield minutes for the Jets last year too.
He is not just a small forward as you thought

I can. I think he is a very similar sort to Banks. Both very good runners, long accurate kicks and they rebound well out of the backline. Difference is McCarthy is a bit bigger and quite a lot faster. That extra pace will help him a lot. He could easily have been playing half back at AFL level this year.
He's about to turn 25, I'll be shocked if he plays 100 AFL games. Doesn't really have any standout attributes and doesn't get a heap of the ball. He's quick, but not electric. Riley Bice is a scarily similar prospect and has done well at the Swans this year but he is a truly elite kick. Tom is not.
We shall see...
I don't think I have ever seen McCarthy miss a kick, chooses the right option every time. He has great endurance and whilst not electric he's pretty quick. He averages 23 possessions off half back in the VFL this season or there abouts, that's a lot. 24-25 is exactly the age you want him to be because he is ready to go as opposed to developing. Might not get to 100, but could easily cement a spot at WC for a few good years.
