yep saw that too. not good because he's really starting to find his feet at AFL level.

He showed some pace which i haven't seen from him before tonight as well.

One thing he's gotta work on is his kicking at goals from the run. He's had numerous shanks in almost the exact same fashion - getting the ball 60-70m out, taking a bounce and kicking from 45-50m and missing.

i really hope it was just cramp (cramp in groin is very strange though) because it would be an absolute shame - that was his best game for the eagles. i reckon i've now thought that in about 5 of his last 6 or 7 games which is a really good sign from him.

That is the lingering effect of OP, you try to kick long and your leg swings around your body instead of following through to the target. :(
He'll be a gun though ;):thumbsu:

Show some nice pace, had good pick ups and some slick handballs. Liked his game. But yep, kicking still a bit off...does OP heal over time while playing or do you have to have an extended break?

It is "touch and go" for those that remember Death at a funeral, you can play in the healing process but if you push the boundaries too far...........well you can end up with a mess on your hands. :D

In the post match interview Woosha was saying that Masten struggles to get depth on his kicks because he is coming off OP, and as the match goes on he struggles to get the distance on the 45-50 metre kicks.

Do you think Masten pulling up sore is the type of thing Woosha would of mentioned, if indeed he was sore?

Man, I hope this is nothing. He is really starting to play well.

More to come I think.... Didn't look major, just uncomfortable. Possible 1 week rest.
His face showed there is some OP/groin worry & doubt in his mind still.
Ran hard on a wet ground, had a bit of the ball so hopefully just late game soreness.

whilst I don't disagree that it is something he needs to work on - Judd and Murphy were hardly outstanding kicking at goal on the run last night.

Thought Masto was very good tonight, especially in the 3rd quarter

Why the hell are they playing him if he still has OP? Why the hell did they play him last year if he had OP? He's 19 years old, a very valuable asset at the club and at the start of a long career and the club is down the bottom of the ladder. He may be playing well in spite of the OP but we don't need him out on the park right now half fit, making his injury even worse and putting his form next year in jeopardy aswell. If he is still suffering from it give him the whole season off and hopefully he will be 100% fit next season which is far better than continuing to play him half fit. If we had made the sensible decision last year he may have been fully fit for this year.

The most troubling thing about it is all the times i have heard people talk about how Luke Ball has had his whole career affected by the OP he had when about Masten's age because Grant "***head" Thomas and his "training services" committee forced him to play through the pain of the injury in his first seasons and that it did permanent damage to his groin and that he has never really recovered. He would be regarded on par with Hodge and Judd, IMO, if it wasn't for his dodgy groin. I hope we are not making the same mistakes.

I don't think they'll make the wrong decision for him 15 yr, they simply can't afford to. I mean, if we're not a threat for finals this year I can't see them playing him if he's not right.

Agreed swannies. Can see him being put in cotton wool for the year in the next few weeks.

On a side note, surely he's shown enough now for people to see why we took him at #3.

yerh like eastern hills pointed out that part of play with his speed was magnificent
i thought it looked more like just a bit of cramp
heres to hoping

I think Masten is really starting to show something so it would be disappointing if the groin is playing up again.

I was thinking watching the game last night that if he could get an injury free pre-season under his belt next year then he'll be set for a ripper season.

My heart sank when I saw him grimace, but he seemed to run the game out and played very well. He is now finding plenty of the ball, his vision and handballing to advantage seems very good, his short kicking is very good (he hit Kennedy (?) with a perfect pass on the lead in the first half, seems to have a few of these every game to the leading forward), and his long kicking is improving. He also finds most of is possessions himself, rather than being an outside runner. I am more than happy with his progression, he is an exciting talent - the same could be said about Ebert and S Selwood after last night too, an impressive draft year so far!
