i dont watch the show every night but can someone explain to me why that fat lady keeps getting through when she ****s up everything she does?

Because she's nailing the entire crew. Seriously, i would expect her signature dish to be chicken carparccio (sp?)

What an absolute joke, 3 times she's stuffed up this week and 3 times she's still going, they talked last night about how taste would come into it, how the hell would they know what Julie's tasted like, she didn't present all her dishes completed, who's to say the rest of the stuff she had to plate was tasty.

Absolute ****ing joke

The Asian and the Fat mummy in the final. Those two are deadset shockers. Matt Moran and Co must be feasting over the spoils. As for that cake which looked like a pile off mush...

Julie's incredibly lucky after the night and week she's had. Also lucky that Chris served up such bland food.

Poh should win but may not because she hasn't got the same "passion", probably cared the least about winning this comp out of all of them, yet ironically at her best, the others can never match her.

Poh's inventive dishes are in another world, Julie's inventiveness delivers "puddle pies".

I did like Julie, but have gone off her after that spiel last night.

GO THE POH!!

Very disappointing to see Chris eliminated last night as he is already the most 'chef-like' of all the contestants - but he will be fine, you can see the talent and the passion for cooking that he has.

I'm sure he will open his beer themed restaurant, and I for one can't wait to try it out.

Teflon-coated Julie is doing my head in, not sure how many times you can stuff up a dish and be so disorganised, yet somehow survive until the last two and let's face it the judges love her and this seems to carry a fair bit of weight, wouldn't be backing against her to win it.

Would like to see Poh win it - she is genuinely creative with her dishes.

Whole-heartedly agree.

The sobbing and general carry on about her family made me cringe.

Julie was also the only one who had a clear vision of her cookbook.

Could be onto a winner.

Probably appeal to the same people who buy Donna Hay and Margaret Fulton cookbooks.

Chris and Poh's pitches were half-ar$ed...

2.35 million last night.
Has gone up every night this week. That 2.5 million mark might not be out of the question, after all.

Making a mockery of all those people who are 'supposedly' turning off because they are upset with the way the results have panned out.

Just when you think Channel 10 can't ruin a show... they live up to form.
Why do they always show the Top whatever in the ads leading up to the show beginning?

Totally gives away who passes the auditions and who doesn't.

They did it to Dance, Idol and Masterchef.

Missed last nights show coz of footy training but very surprised to see Chris gone. Was my favorite from early on as he had a clear vision of his restaurant and cooked interesting meals.

However, things went wrong when he cooked that terrible steak to the 4 chefs they had in as judges. That showed me he was struggling a bit.

Having said that, how Julie makes it is unbeleivable. She serves up crap most weeks. How she didnt get the chop when Lucas did when she served milk like custard on and undercooked base with no edges asstounded me.

However, like most tv shows, they are catered for the viewers and generating ratings. Julie is fan favorite and brings in the women and housewives (core audience id say). Ensures good ratings for the last 4 weeks when she probably should have been cut.
They must also think her book will sell more even though as pointed out before, there are millions of home style cookbooks out there. Chris's would have been more intersting but wouldnt sell as many to the main stream market.

Watched the catchup online and think it's a cop out that Julie is allowed to have a messy presentation as she's going for the family/homely theme.

Donna Hay criticised Chris for having layers of brown on his plate, while Julie has a piece of cake with nothing else on it.

Most are saying they will turn off NOW, after last night. Look it will probably be a blip in the ratings but its the only form of protest available assuming they don't read the official forums which went into meltdown last night.

For the conspiracy theorists out there - Chris's business associate is allegedly purchasing a building in Melbourne or Sydney.

Could it be that the "not being a commercial cook" part of the competition was under threat?

FWIW:

Justine would do very well underneath someone. ;) (I mean as a sous chef for you dirty minds out there)

Julie has improved 1000%. Her kids will be able to eat when she goes home. Would fit in well with a pub-style countermeal/family restaurant feel.

Chris will run a successful 'name' restaurant, focusing on the beer/meat combo.

Poh might be able to do some semi-professional catering - "event" cake-making especially (weddings, etc). She wouldn't survive in a restaurant.

Andre could go either way. I think he could be stifled in a commercial environment - but don't think he has 'it' to get a restaurant underway.
=====
But the point we're all now realising - it's not about who's the best chef. That doesn't matter, and it's not what this show is about. It's all about the cookbook.

Sam, for all his faults had a following which 'could' transend into a following - be it TV or cookbooks.
Chris - really comes accross as an 'experience' rather than a 'follow'. His cookbooks would only be purchased by good cooks looking to extend themselves.
Justine - Has the personality for TV. It's where I expect her to be very soon.
Poh - I can't see her doing media work, I CAN see her doing a series of amazing photography-based dessert cookbooks (which no-one can ever get to look like the photo).

In that regard, Julie's homestyle cooking appeals to the masses - they would - in general - be simpler dishes, easier to assemble/cook, use less ingredients, which could be (mostly) found at supermarkets.

With this 'new' (to me) aspect of looking at what the winner actually gets....perhaps it explains why Julie (and previously Sam) both went so well despite apparent failings?

Julie is a 'recipe' cook more than any of the others. I wonder if her 'recipe-book' will in fact be ghost-written by others, with her face/comments/photos merely added to cash in on the 'marketing'.

I've probably seen about half of the episodes, but got caught up in it over the last month or so.

Funny how Donna Hay went out of her way to criticise Chris' dishes about how they would look on camera before he even cooked them but didn't say a peep about Julie's dishes completed and sitting in front of her. Chicken & Mash brown & white, lamb and potato brown & off white, cake just brown. Exactly what she told Chris not to do.

Plus the judges have enjoyed criticising dishes for being too simple for Masterchef, especially towards the end. Apparently that didn't matter last night - if Chris had served up what Julie did he would have copped it hard i bet.

Why? He can do what he wants now. He obviously has a successful business and a profile. I'm just having a look at his beermasons site now and its pretty impressive. I hope he does open a place in Melbourne, I'll definitely try it.

Julie once again served up rubbish last night, but was once again let through with some dodgy judging. Julie making to the finale makes a mockery of their claim to want to find the best amateur cook, especially considering the crap she served up in the final week, but it is only a reality tv show.

The final week has proven that ratings and other commercial factors played a much bigger role than anything else... especially potential book sales. Given this commercial pragmatism it wouldn't surprise me to see Julie win now, especially with the left of centre book theme Poh pitched.

Chris has nobody to blame but himself though, he attempted to serve up dishes that required at least 4 hours of slow cooking in 2.5 hours. Even though he used a pressure cooker, he took a big risk and it didn't pay off. I've used them a couple of times to shorten a very long braise and the flavour was never rich, sweet or deep enough.

Chris really should have known that using these body parts would not work properly in a 2.5 hour time frame, but he was determined not to compromise his book theme. This gamble didn't' pay off, especially as he didn't have much competition from Julie to beat.

Chris should definitely strike whilst the iron is hot if he is serious about getting his own place up and running. His profile and unique restaurant theme will get people in the door initially, then it is up to him to maintain a high quality. I'll definitely give his place a go.

It is hard to see exactly how Poh can be beaten in the finale, but as Julie has proven it is not always the best cook that wins.

What's the address?

Agree with everything being said about Julie staying in. Farce

It reminded me of Beijing Olympics where that Chinese gymnast landed on her backside in the vault and still took bronze over others who actually landed it. But at least when the Chinese gymnast stuffed her landing it was a routine of great difficulty. Seemed that Julie's was the easiest to make, still stuffed it and still got through.

Cant see the logic in Chris have one day off, when Julie had several, including this one, and they still go with her.

Surely, Po has to win, as annoying as she is. But for me, Chris was the best of this competition stupid hat and arrogant attitude aside.

how can Julie of improved when she couldn't plate up on time and cooked the same thing that got her on the show in the first place?

well if its all about the cookbook then what was the point of the invention and pressure tests everyweek?

the judges can munipulate the results as much as they like, theres no way we can tell how the food tastes and when Julie couldn't plate up on time her ood was alwas going to taste really good and presentation didnt matter anymore.

If the producers were manipulating the result, then Justine would be in this weekends final. Easily the most popular contestant, would have sold a truckload of cookbooks with her French cuisine and is telegenic as well.

Can the tin foil hat brigade explain why she got eliminated please ?

Because her and Poh cooked the worst cakes and one of them had to get booted and they chose her instead of Poh?

She was the most popular contestant by any sex and demographic. The kids loved her, the blokes loved her and women liked her as well.

If the producers wanted a perfect final it would be Trev the trucker versus Justine.
