She is choosing a malaysian invention test. Should be interesting...

Why the hate for Poh ?
She's a bitch who's been gifted more chances than you can shake a stick at by the judges. Admittedly her behaviour has improved since she came back but I can't forget the way she made unfounded accusations about the others particularly Chris during the wedding task, particularly when Chris went out of his way to help her.

Plus her mannerisms annoy the hell out of me.

Plus she has stated that she doesn't want to be a chef, so why do the judges bring back someone who doesn't want to be a chef?

Frogshit.

Both Lucas' pies were bland and tasted like crap, and the pastry was raw. Julie's savoury pie was great, so she was one up on Lucas. Julie had one disaster, Lucas had two. Simple decision really.
Yep, agree with this.
Why the hate for Poh ?

She's inventive and takes a risk and more often than not it comes off.

The girl can definitely cook.
Her 'smile' shits me to tears. The way it's all toothy, just looks so ****en fake.

My tip for tomorrow is Julie to be gone, her saying "Just give me one more day" sounded like she had ****ed up tomorrows dish again, no more chances.

I cannot believe Julie is still in. She seems to just cook basic, ordinary meals every week and she seems to screw up half of them. When the other contestants challenge themselves and try new things she just cooks basic meals that she would cook for her kids and are cooked in every household in Australia. Under the banner of 'home cooking' she has little chance of doing anything decent in the culinary world. Personally I would rather a contestant with a greater ability to go further in the competition e.g. Lucas then someone who will never strive for the best.

Anyone else try to pick it from who looked like they'd been crying in commentary/diary room/interview bits?

Fat lot of good that was in the end.;) Even Lucas looked like he was tearing up a bit there.

The final decision was a bit of a WTF at first, but you can see the rationale behind it - one outstanding and one disaster dish should beat out two mediocre dishes any day of the week. They were also pretty explicit about pastry being the key - any raw stuff was always going to get nailed.

Don't feel too bad for Lucas either, as the contacts and knowledge he'd have built up working for Manou coupled with everything he's learned over the course of the show will be really good for his cafe in the long run - certainly not being left high and dry like some of the other contestants would have been.

Poh really appears to have turned it around after coming back - if she nails the Malaysian dishes tomorrow and gets another advantage she could become a real dark horse.

Poh dishes up her MasterChef secret
July 11, 2009 11:30pm

"It (MasterChef) has absolutely intensified my love of cooking and confirmed that I really do want to go into the industry," she said.

"I really thought it was a good litmus test to see whether I had the stamina.

This was in the Sunday Mail on the weekend ;)

They weren't mediocre, they were average, and as has already been stated the pastry wasn't raw. They stated at the end that the pastry was well cooked. Based on the judges comments the only one who had a big problem with Lucas was Mangan. As someone else said 2 average dishes should beat 1 good (not outstanding just good) and 1 disaster.

Fair enough but she definitely stated after she was eliminated the first time around that she didn't want to be a chef. I remain unconvinced about her commitment.

Julie is living, sweating proof that giving them cash and a lame ass cookbook is a great idea because she would be awful in a professional kitchen even as a sous chef let alone a head chef.

Perhaps if Lucas didn't have to bother making two pies he could have done one great and one pile of vomit as well. Not one part of her second pie was done except maybe the passionfruit dribble which probably took three minutes.

Lucas very stiff, his pies wern't the disaster people are saying and i thought they would go on consistency over the multiple dishes instead they choose Julie whos passionfruit pie was just embarrassing.

I was surprised Lucas was sent home but it wasn't really unexpected, and I don't think there was that big of a difference between his below average pies vs Julie's good pie and her puddle...thing. She won't last much longer surely though but I get the impression she won't be gone tomorrow from the preview snippets, it would be too obviously if she did surely?

Also I don't understand why almost all of them went with massive pies. Poh and Chris had the right idea, something small or that would cook quickly. Waste of time and effort to make family sized pies.

I liked how they showed Chris looking pissed while his voice over said "I'm not annoyed that Poh won". I like Chris but that was gold..

And Poh OMG how annoying is she! I'll be on cloud nine looking at her dissappointed face when she gets eliminated!

As for Lucas I reckon he was stiff to lose to Julie as he has much more potential which should have gotten him over the line.

Final two should be Chris and Julia IMHO unless one of them stuffs up.

It should have been Julie going, not Lucas, but Julie is a more entertaining character who both the audience and judges have a far greater investment in, so i believe that factored into their decision.

Poh thoroughly deserved to win the invention test.
She was the only one who truly 'invented' something, her food looked amazing (far better than anyone elses) and apparently the taste was great.

That is the only reason she stayed, last nights decision was ratings based no doubt, the sweet pie Julie dished up was an absolute disgrace and i reckon i could have dished up something similiar. And whilst i don't like his smugness and laughed when they showed his face after Poh won, i still thought Chris's main pie was the best, when they cut it open and all the sauce flowed out, for me that's how a pie should be.

I just hope we see Justine in the many mens mags around :thumbsu:

But at this stage of the comp it shouldn't. Its a violation of the integrity of the judging process. Yes I know its only a reality show and they don't normally have any integrity but I was taking this show and the judges seriously and now I won't. Up until now the judges have made justifiable decisions. They don't want to find the best chef, they want to find the most acceptable chef and the judges are now complicit in that.

2.1 million people last night. Finally cracked the 2 million mark.

Easily Ch 10's most succesful show ever including Big Brother, SYTYCD and Biggest Loser.

For a show to average 1.5 million viewers a night for nearly 3 months, 6 nights a week is incredible.

Julie is the "new Sam".
I can't believe she escaped elimination last night. If they were judging it over both the pies, and after she put up that "vomit pie", I thought she was gone for all money. Lucas was pretty stiff, although he's got his own cafe, and can now start incorporating food there as well.

Fair chance Julie was kept as i reckon alot of veiwers are older mum's/housewifes who can see themselves in Julie and therefor is she sticks around, so will the viewers.

These shows are always rigged one way or another.

LOL - the show has 5 nights to run. Not 5 months.

Julie going would not have made a smidgin of difference whatsoever to any potential ratings. Besides the advertising slots would have already been sold so the argument is irrelevant anyway.

Oz Idol was huge with the early finales rating over 3m IIRC.

Reckon the finale for MC will get around 2.3m.

Just not pies;)

Poh is the most naturally gifted of the lot. The others just cannot match her best dishes. Always has the best presentation by a street and nails the flavours time and again with experimental dishes.

She was very lucky to have been brought back, but she seems to have it together mentally now after the break with no meltdowns since her return and I think will be hard to stop.

Agreed.

Looking forward to seeing how Julie goes..

Idol was only on twice a week though and its Monday night episodes never did massive numbers like Masterchef does.

Given she's been in elimination four times and only won one of the major individual challenge (last night), i don't think that's accurate.

She's definitely got a stack of talent and presents some quality dishes when she puts it all together, but last night was the first time in the entire run of the show that people like Chris and Justine haven't been able to 'match her best dishes' when it counts.

Always has the best presentation by a street and nails the flavours time and again with experimental dishes.

Her presentation (and creativity) is undoubtedly superb, but the second part of your comment is puzzling given she's had far more misses than hits.

Her food last night was clearly the best presented and most appetising dishes i've seen throughout the show, but her ratio of great dishes to bad ones isn't pretty.

As we saw from day one at the auditions, she's very, very hit and miss and erratic.

She was very lucky to have been brought back, but she seems to have it together mentally now after the break with no meltdowns since her return and I think will be hard to stop.

I agree with all that, but if she gets through the next night or two, i do wonder if she'll be able to maintain her composure given the enormous pressure they're all going to be under.

If she maintains her composure and the challenges suit her, she's definitely a big chance to go deep into the final week.
