Spoke too soon again - terrific fight from Petra.
Amazing third set and tiebreaker. Both of them had their chances to finish it off. Kvitova had a forehead attempted winner that missed the line by an inch at 10-9. And then had a very poor first serve, and another missed forehead winner attempt at 10-10. Then hit a scorching winner at 10-11. And a great volley to win it 13-11. Just kept going for it, kudos to her. Deserved winner.

Some fantastic matches on the women’s side but these courts are ultra slow

Biggest positive has been the quality though heaps of 3 setters. Watched the Sabalenka one today which was a fantastic match, serve the difference in the end.

Going to take something very special to beat Iga though

I haven’t seen enough of the men’s side hopefully catch a bit over the next few rounds

Can’t see anyone beating Swiatek. Would have to have an off day for herself to allow someone to beat her.

On these courts yes. Though if Sabs serves the way she did today you never know. It’s between those two maybe Rybakina but these courts hurt Rybakina massively.

Men’s is very open wouldn’t be shocked if it’s a weird winner

Weird as in Norrie? Just joking.. could happen thouh

Really keen for Davidovich Fokina to take it up to Medvedev.

Not the worst shout I haven’t seen a lot of the men. Purely on the courts Medvedev should win but apparently was lucky to win today

Was very, very lucky. Zverev was the better player for the first two sets, and should’ve won in 2. Had 0-40 on consecutive Medvedev’s service games in in the second set. Had 17 break points all up, converted 2. He broke him on his second BP, and his last, so think about how many he wasted in a row in between. Infuriating. Some of it was clutch play by Med, but a lot was passive play by Zverev.

Medvedev spent a lot of the match complaining about everything. Mainly the courts. Again went on and on and on about how slow they are. “This isn’t a hard court. I would know, I’m a hard court specialist“. That made me laugh. Then he rolled his ankle in a nasty looking incident in set 2, I wasn’t sure he would continue. Somehow he did, and someone he hung in there. Wasted chance for Zverev.

Watched the Alcaraz match. Draper‘s conditioning needs major work. Alcaraz is absolutely ridiculous though, on another level. I just don’t see how he’s beaten here, but he hasn’t really been tested yet.

Watched Swiatek/Raducanu. High quality for patches, Emma came out all guns blazing and really took it up to Iga, was good to see. But Swiatek is a machine, just so consistent and relentless.

If you get a chance watch the Sabalenka vs Kreijikova match close to the best match of the year. Babs is close to back to when she won the French Open.

Have seen the Medvedev match now and yeah you are right very lucky to get through that. Nice to see Zverev back close to his best, whatever people think of him off the court tennis needs him on the court one of the few that can push these top players. Rublev was horrible.

Carlos a clear favourite I would say

Scary from Sabs again, trounces Gauff 6-3, 6-0
Love it. Gauff is so mediocre. Back in the days when I used to play Virtua Tennis on the PS2, they would give every player a quality. Hers would definitely be fast runner. Yeah the BH is solid, but the FH sucks and she is so reactive rather than proactive. Chalk this up as another “I just don’t see it” performance.

Meanwhile Med on his way to steamroll ADF. I thought something like 6-3, 6-3 prior to the match, now I’m thinking 6 games might be generous. What can he hurt Med with? Med will just rally him to death and he’ll wait for ADF to become frustrated and go for something wild.

ADF lifting, starting to find his rhythm. Mixing things up a bit too. Had a BP first service game of the second set but some huge serves got Med out of trouble. Can’t wait for someone to finally beat him, sick of his relentless pushing.

Another service game, another break point for ADF. Saved with an ace. Déjà vu from yesterday. Davidovich Fokina is really impressing me now though with his variety. Slices, drop shots, net approaches, S&V. Very good, and proves he is capable and can sense when he needs to change it up. But the point patience is the issue. Pulls the trigger when he shouldn’t as he doesn’t want those marathon exchanges.

He’s playing great now.

I know people will say oh she’s young but I agree she does seem to have major things wrong. Forehand is terrible and that second serve yikes.

Huge hold by ADF!! He’s definitely becoming one of my favourites. Love his game. He’s bringing it right now, love the outburst of emotion too. Cmon!

Had 0-40, couldn’t break, then Medvedev breaks him. Of course. Another Medvedev win imminent, yawn. Boring pusher.

We sort of hope for a Med/Alcaratz final

Though watch Felix beat Carlos (has a 3-0 record against Carlos)
