Geez I thought my mob take preseason games too seriously! It’s just a practice game, an opportunity to try out a few things, and get a look at some players.

I just came here to say the Wiz, is a pocket dynamite. Unbelievable how he intercepted our defenders and goaled twice last night. For someone that small he defies nature.

Could be missing both Newcombe and Mackenzie.

So a midfield of Nash, Ward, MacDonald and Weddle are going to be in for the fight of their lives.
Newcombe isn’t getting suspended for that. As for McKenzie I’m a bit confused. Some are saying concussion others a just saying head knock. Not sure what to make of that.

Newcombe will get the hawthorn tax.

On the balance of the (very small sample size) two pre season games my current thoughts are...

  • Croc looks like he has more purpose, drive and determination playing with swings through the middle
  • Watson is primed to go up another gear this year and it is going to be great to watch
  • Schubert will play sooner rather than later
  • Mraz doesn't look as ready as I thought he was based on last year's form. Might be a mental thing because he feels so close to a debut?
  • Butler is a lock and thank feck we were able to retain him
  • Perez is surely on our list by Monday!?
  • Our ruck(s) selection for next week will be VERY INTERESTING
Mraz had a better last 40 mins, positioning was better and he halved more contests. He will be ok just needs to believe he belongs at this level.

Newcombe is in trouble, I think, similar to others last year, holding one arm, the player's head hitting the ground. No concussion, but we will see.

Our team looked out of energy, must have been a rough training week, skills cost us and the bulldogs fed off the out the back easy goals which were about a 1/3rd of their goals it seemed, it was a bit of a shoot out in the 1st half which favoured them, then it got a bit messier, hard to know the condition of the squad, but it's pre season so I'm hoping for better things as the season starts.
My main takeaway too. We looked heavy in the legs all over the ground. Always off the pace and contest. When you see Battle just cruising around and not putting himself in the line of fire it’s clear we were in self preservation mode.

Barely hitting the ground im not even sure it was a slinging action either he rotated him first than took him to ground but not with any excessive force. Richards got straight up.

2nd look at the Newcombe tackle Richards had a chance to kick the ball being a left footer. Ball not pinned and neither was he's left arm. Newk took him to ground almost in the 1 motion. Little bit clumsy but it's not a suspendable offence and if they do decide to go down that path we will appeal without a 2nd thought and use the rulings of the rule to justify it.

Is see it's the usual practice match sky is falling bullshit.
Never change Big Footy.
I started at page 20 this morning so I would read potentially more emotionally stable opinions :moustache:

Re Mraz- I thought he looked like a talented key position prospect who hasn't played a great deal in the past two years. His high spoiling is a great tool but needs to improve his positioning and decision making, both of those will come with experience. Great for him to have a hit out last night.

It looked almost impossible for newk to perform a second action never mind actually do one

FWIW I think Newcombe should hopefully get a fine, but I think there is something to be said from this post of mine from January:

I know they're very close mates but the footage of this tackle pissed me off a bit. That's 4 weeks in season and deserved too. Dumping like that is crap. I'm all for hard tackles but when you use your leverage after the tackle is pretty much completed to potentially injure someone you get what you deserve, hope he was reminded of that..
It was from a training clip of Jai dumping Massimo at training, this tackle last night was less intense than that but for me that sort of stuff is a muscle memory kinda thing, it should have been picked up by the coaches because we can't have our skipper missing games
