Low gravity would really help Heeney as he is very good one on one and very good jumping in the air. More hang time due to low gravity would only help him.

Isn't there less pressure on the moon too? suits Sydney

Wicks has done pretty well I think. He is playing on a multiple All Australian. The McCartin move I think is a bomb out.

I do not want to see Campbell anywhere near HB.

He has been okay. Still worry about his discipline and shonky disposals playing in such a role. But if the experiment keeps him away from the forward line and leaves space for someone like Campbell to be played where he should be, then I'm happy with that.

Don’t read anything into these games.

Main thing is no injuries.

But it did confirm:

* McCartin forward and Wicks back are both genuine

* Campbell under Cox is a half forward (yay)

* Adams isn’t in the frame for the starting midfield. Seems likely to be predominantly used in the forwards

* We have an new player called Patonfromstkilda

No. Because he has been playing a defensive role on Cadman. As a negating key back. Don't like it.

Neither do I to be honest. Yes Blakey can be a bit flakey defensively sometimes but his run out of defence is a huge weapon for us. We can't take that out of his game.

I suspect this is a result of McCartin not being down there.

Don't be so negative. Have some faith. The Big Guy is the best Tall Forward we have. He kicked 47 last year and wasn't even the focal point.

Hardly being negative , no one has kicked 100 goals in 17 years in this league and the one did it was a once in a generational player.

To suggest Amartey will do it when he hasn't kicked 50 in a year yet is kind of bonkers .

I mean it's honestly more likely last year is his best return of his career. That part may be negative but still, a practice game hit out and you think he is Tony Lockett 😅

Flakey Blakey ... good one

Loved what Campbell did but his second half was quite. He needs to learn to run out games.

Personally would have preferred him kicking 2 goals in the first half and 2 goals in the second half than 4 goals in the first quarter and a half, if that makes sense.

Not bothered as much for a practice game , but take your point

Overall that's probably our best pre season performance in a long while - starting where we left off in the prelim last year. Neither team full strength but not far off it either.

Our gamestyle and weaknesses don't look a heap different tbh but I like the Campbell, Wicks and Paton moves, and Sheldrick will get a few gigs - these are potential improvements on last year. We just need to do well what we do well and we'll be alright.

The Mccartin experiment can only help us, at worst it becomes a harry taylor style swingman option. Our only struggle will be the gulf of improvement we would get out of Steven May style enforcer defender. Whatever chips we have in the bank come end of year needs to go all out on that player - have to identify and get in the ear of one.

If it was a normal game then sure. But everyone knows second halves of the practice matches are nightmares.

You do all know that appeasing Bedford means he is only going to come back and try it again?

Did you all learn nothing from Neville Chamberlain and Hitler?

He is preparing an autopsy thread so it's not mixed in here as we speak

Good hitout.

Amartey & Campbell the only real takeaways.
I thought Hannily was good. Mitchell too in the minutes he got, which were limited. Matty Roberts was good in the few minutes he played. Paton looks impressive.

Sheldrick gets lots of ball and barrels a lot but needs to clean up his disposal.

There is plenty of upside. We kicked 19.11 which is a very good score. They were without Taylor but he was their only back missing.

It was a bit bruise free footy, especially when the rain started. I thought the body on body got lighter when the rain came. But a good hit out. I think next week has to be much harder to prepare for the season Opening Round. Gold Coast were impressive v Pies & Lions.

I think McCartin should go back. That experiment is over.

Corey Warner gets plenty but his disposal, yuk.

Hannily has been handy

I liked Ladhams when he was playing on Aleer. He had him for pace.

Amartey is going to kick 100 in a season sometime soon. He is a very serious forward.

Ladhams in the ruck. Grundy forward. Good move.

McCartin off. He dropped a sitter a few minutes ago

Amartey is never going to kick a 100 in a season , Buddy only did it once

I wasn't going to until I saw that the observations from this match alone took six pages. Clogs up the other thread. Will probably combine this one with a thread for next week's game, as more people will watch that and probably more comment will follow.
