I dont think Dempster was the man for the 1st kick last night. Too much pressure on the kid. The pies ended up letting Dempster take it.

And more times than not he found something constructive to do with it. He was generally forced to kick to a contest because the Pies were manning up but he kicked long and usually to at least a 50/50 contest.

kicking to a 50/50 while in possession is not really considered "constructive".

Unfortunatley in our team it probably is. It is better than kicking to one Swans vs. 3 defenders and more positive than just looking for the boundary line.

Also, it's not so bad if you kick it long. At some point you have to believe the team can actually win the 50/50 contest rather than always rely on chip kicking around.

Very lucky win.
A better team would have beaten us.
Umpires were shiet.
I'm hungry.
Our rucks were dissapointing in the last.

Ok, I didn't add anything new.

It is if the opposition is being very disciplined in manning up - as the Pies were. What other option did he have? And as others have stated, he usually kicked it long. Some of his placement was absolutely spot on - ie the marks that Willo and B2 took pretty much sliding onto the chalk. And there was a good contested mark Ball took late in the game off another Dempster "kick-out". It was a good mark by Ball but the ball was weighted perfectly to give him every possible chance of taking it.

a 50/50 is not kicking to a leading player a couple of metres ahead of his opponent. Thats definately a kick to advantage.

a 50/50 is kicking to a pack, or 1-on-1 where the kick doesnt favour either.
Taking the ball from 100% possession to 50% chance of possession is not constructive. Look at it conversly: defenders are quite happy to see the ball OOB (50/50) when a ball comes in.

Correct, it is silly to argue differently.
