I agree that Stevens is a dudd. Scott that is.:D

Glad to keep our Stevens over yours I must say.

Look out for Bernie Vince, he is improving by the week. Be happy if you guys tag Edwards because this lets our youngsters run around and get kicks at will.

Should be a good game. For the Crows if our execution is good we should win it its not, we are in trouble. Last two weeks it has been fairly ordinary.

Very important game for both sides. Hopefully Judd is due for a quiet one;)

Should be a hell of a test for the Blue-baggers. Adelaide are in a different class to (IMHO) anyone we've played so far in terms of fitness, work-ethic and gameplan.*

Goodwin is playing forward, and bloody well at that. A real defender should get the start on him, rather than a tagger-type. Thornton first go.

McLeod is a genius, and must be stopped. Tag the bejesus out of him. Figure on 2 guys rotating, if needs be.

Thompson is a clearance machine, and Hadley I think would be a really solid opponent for him. Hads is improving week-to-week, and his tackling and physicality are a feature and should see him do OK against Thompson, who is a bull.

The younger Crows who could well chop us up are Porpyzia and Bernie Vince. Both these guys are getting 20-odd touches a game, and are goal-kickers, too. Covering well for the loss of Reilly. Need to be respected, not feared.

And as the Adelaide fan said up there, stopping Bock, Johncock and co running out of our forward line at will is vital to this contest. Obviously full-ground pressure has been a major problem for the Blues over the last year (2.... 3... maybe 5 years). It's something that has improved noticeably, and was the key to the Pies win. It will need to be that good and then some to stop the Crows.

Should be a really good test. I'm confident we can be competitive.

* Collingwood should have been, but were pants.

Judd does not know the meaning of a quiet one.:D

grigg to mcleod (remember shaw)
banno to scott thompson
jammo to goodwin
thornton to other tall (tippett/griffen/stevens)
bower to burton
waite to run off mcgregor all day

carrots to douglas i suppose as best small forward?

This is what I wrote over at the Adelaide thread:

Don't think Gibbs will get Goodwin. I would have thought more Thornton would be the one.
As for the bird man, probably Jamo unless he takes Tippet, then Bower should go to Burton. Waite to play CHB on McGregor.
I agree Bannister should run with McCleod ... everywhere he goes.

Judd, Stevens, Hadley, Simpson & Scotland through the middle is the key for mine. The game will be won or lost here. We have the ascendancy against the crows in the middle, including in the ruck (sheesh when was the last time I felt that was the case) as they are rebuilding but Edwards, Thompson, Proplezia, VanBerlo and comp. have been doing ok.
Will be interested to see how Pfeiffer reacts against his old team as well.

Bannister - Goodwin
Russell - Porplyzia
Bower - Burton
Jamison - McGregor
Grigg - McLeod
Carrazzo - Johncock

And......

Waite - Bock. Now, this is the one that will be debated the most, I feel. Yes, Waite has been excellent down back for us. However, do we really need him this week down back? There isn't really that good a match up for him, and we can cover their forwards as I showed above. Bock is one of their most dangerous players with the run he provides from the back half and we really need to look out for him. Waite is just as good as Bock athletically and can hurt him on the scoreboard as well if Bock starts running off him too much.

I don't think that it will happen because Waite has established himself down back very well and will probably play on McGregor, but I really think that it's an option well worth considering.

Griggs on Macleod? I would be offended if I was Macleod at the level of disrespect shown. Not fit to stand alongside the great man. What has Grigg done to deserve the accolades. Putting on a Carlton Jumper is not enough. What di he do against Heath Shaw. Ended up Collingwoods chief possession winner and best player. Grigg is soft and plays unaccountable football. Still young but has lots to learn. Lets not make him a legend like we did with Sporn and Wiggins in their early years at the club.

We need to alternate with Bannister and Pfeiffer (please no Russell), maybe Armfield for his close checking.

Russell isn't a good matchup for Porplyzia. He's a good mark up forward and Russell won't play defence, plus Porplyzia is far superior at ground level and around the clearances.

I hope we are not getting to carried away with Juddy ... I know hes been good last few weeks but still improving and with this I think will start coming a lot more attention and expectation...we did play melbourne

I just hope that he can keep up a consistent effort and guys like Murphs and Hads keep getting under the radar but i dont think so... time for others to step up this week as the crows will be very prepared for us...

We need to have some surprises for them and keep up with the underdog tag and be the hunters....

Setanta and Kreuzer to stand up , up forward and kick a bag each with all Adelaides backline on FEV...LOL....

Any other surprises ????

We should let Waitey start forward and move him back if someone like Burton kicks a couple of quick goals. This will take Bock away from double teaming Fev and Waite could kick a bag himself.

Waite will play CHB, his form there has been outstanding. Expect Hartlett to come in to play CHF this week. Was emergency last week and was clearly BOG to half time in the Bullants on Saturday, although faded after the break. Setanta probably the guy to make room for Harts.

Another option would be to bring in Edwards to play out of the goal square. Whatever the line-up, I hope Ratts puts someone onto the loose man. We would have smashed Melbourne if he had have done it last week.

grigg did ok on shaw. for a quarter kept him to 1-2 touches and through the game got his own ball as well. Banno should be used elsewhere goodwin or thompson for me. Pfeiffer on what basis?

I like your thinking, however Douglas needs to be shown no respect, he is a mega dud who has had so much luck to get this far in his AFL career. He gets holding the ball so much cos he never runs he just gets the ball and shits himself. I hate him so much he is the weirdest looking little loser I have ever seen and is my most hated player in the AFL.

And is it just me or does everyone on this Carlton board underrate Carrazzo our best and fairest who held our club together last year. His form this year has been nothing short of excellent and he is a key cog in our engine room and racks up. Yet I hear so much talk of him being assigned to inferior roles like back pocket minding someone like Douglas. And a few weeks ago I recall people wanting him dropped. He is one of our best players and teams should be trying to stop him getting clearances and setting up plays with his clean hands.

I'm pretty sure Shirley does not need shutting down. Bannister on Goody is a our best option I think, but the Crows are the ones that need to worry about the match ups and shutting people down (The champ).

Shirley most certainly doesn't require shutting down. Shirely is a tagger, a run-with player only.

Shirely is likely to be dropped this week ... Doughty is in much better form right now in the same role. Knights is available for selection this week having been injured for some weeks now. Reilly is still two or three weeks away from selection. There is some possibility that Dnagerfield might get a call up this week, since the match is in Melbourne.

In the midfield the Blues would need to pay attention to Thompson, Knights, Porplyzia and Vince. McLeod plays back, and Goodwin and Edwards are playing forward whenever there is sufficient other personel available in the midfield ... as there certainly is this week.

Doughty on Judd for mine. Not sure who else would require specific attention. Van Berlo then Symes are the next-in-line as Crows players who would be called upon to tag opposition midfielders as necessary.

I'd play Bock on Fevola myself ... but Rutten may get the job. If the Blues have no-one in particular at CHF who needs especially close attention, and Rutten plays on Fevola, then Bock will cause considerable angst by running off his player and setting up Crows attacking moves from defence.

Up forward, the Crows have two players in the current top 10 goalkickers ... Goodwin and Burton. Neither is all that easy to match up on. Tippett also provides a good marking target up forward, and demands a capable tall defender.

we have several players who can go with burton. Goodwin is the issue. Especially if we were thinking bannister as he is now gone for a month. Would like to see jamison get the job on goodwin but as he moves further up the ground that would become an issue
