Match-Ups vs Essendon

I would say Ling might play on Stanton. Perhaps Enright if Hird goes forward.
I think the Bombers should be worrying about who's gonna match up on our guys.
Ablett/Bartel/Corey are all in fabulous form. Not to mention our backline...
Stanton would be in doubt one would think.

Lloyd kicked 8 goals on him over 2 games in 2005. The last 2 times they've met... If anything Lloyd has the wood over Scarlett.

He kicked 5 on him early 2005 but he got 3 or 4 of em from free kicks.
Scarlett has always played Lloyd well, regardless of stats.
Proof of this would be Lloyd saying Scarlett is one of his toughest oponents which he's said several times...

To suggest Scarlett has owned him is a strecth though surely you can see that.

That will be one of the many good matchups on Friday night which will go a long way to deciding the match.

I never said he owned Lloyd, I said he's always played well on him. In fact Apart from that 5 in '05 I can't remember Lloyd kicking more than 3 or 4 on him. Any Geelong fan would back me up on that...

You never said it but patdman did which is why i quoted his post not yours.

Re Matchups: If what is being reported on the main boards is true and Lloyd is given a week it will be very hard for us to win.

Those 2 games he kicked 5 of those goals WELL into Junk time when the match was already won. So effective goals he kicked 3 in 2 games. He kicks 1.3 on Friday and we can keep Lucas to a couple and we win.

I think you'll see Lloyd has kicked a few bags on Scarlett

As said above, watch the games again. If you do you will see the games are WELL into junk time when he kicks the majority of his goals.

Scarlett - Lloyd (if he plays)
Egan - Lucas
Ling - Hird
Milburn (Negating Forward) - Fletcher

They are the only match ups that matter. Win the midfield, win the game.

i think the key to this match for us is going to be our forward line, and if u ask me its not at its best atm...
nathan, despite showing awesome form earlier, is having a slow patch, i think its time we bring in henry/charlie...maybe both, we just need a reliable tall and i think they're the guys to do it!

i kno some of u might disagree, but i really think they have recieved a rough deal this year, they are quality players when they're at their best:eek:

Has Playfair even done anything in the 2's? Gardiner has been a touch unlucky not to get a game but he has had a free ride in the past and failed. N.Ablett has struggled a bit lately and I am not a big fan BUT the difference between him and the other two is that N.Ablett has quite games as opposed to complete rubbish games where the other two constantly turn the ball over, put the ball out on the full from 30m out etc. N.Ablett at least contributes meaningfully when he does get the pill.

Are you drunk?

Sorry mate, Hank is a good mark at his best but can't kick and Charlie is a reasonable player but Nath does the same job better (lead into midfield and set up forward entry).

Hawkins is so far ahead of Hank. If there is a change it will be Nath (knee?) or Stokes (omitted) for Hawkins (to make Fletch accountable).

Nathan has not been playing well away from the Dome. Although this is not a good thing, he is still young and will learn how to handle the wind/wet. He has only kicked 6 less goals than Mooney since round 7; not too bad.

Nath (if played) will look better at the Dome, and his quick handballs and ability to create a lot from very little will be a great asset on Friday.

Reliable? Are you serious? You can't possibly be trying to say that Henry/Charlie are reliable forwards...for a start 1 of them can't kick.. maybe in the magoos they're at their best

I believe that Mackie will go with Hird, very versatile (look at games on Franklin and O'Keefe) and if lloyd doesn't play Egan will go to Lucas and then two other defenders will sit in front of him, similar to what we did against Fevola, this will allow Scarlett to use his run and good kicking skills to instigate attacks from the backline. Furthermore it will also be entertaining to see what Lucas does if this takes place because judging from past games he doesnt have much between the ears.
peace out

Why would we play Ling on Hird?

More to the point, why "wouldn't" we play Ling on Hird?
He's obviously the quality player in their midfield when he's in there, so it seems pretty straight forward that our best tagger would play on him I would have thought, with one of the regular defenders picking him up when/if he plays forward.

Hird is x10 better than any other Essendon midfielder. Would you play Ling on Mark Johnson? Peverill? Jobe Watson? Hardly worth the other

Not a bad point. Still not 100% if Ling is the man for him.

I'm sorry but Mackie ain't ready for Hird.

The reason alot of us say Ling is because Jim has been explosive out of the guts, winning hard ball at stoppage situations all year. He is corageous, going in hard and low and putting his head over the nut. We need someone who is not going to be intimidated by the other 21 Bombers trying to knock our tagger out. Ling has been through that washing machine many a time.

When Hird goes forward then put someone else like Milburn on him.
