Murali's action was illegal until the ICC amended the rules from allowing up to 7.5 degrees of bending the arm to 15 degrees for spinners. Murali bowled with an arm that was 12 degrees bent IIRC. They were never going to permaban him due to his high profile.
Exactly my point, they bent the rules for one player and as such the subcontinent social media juggernaut consider him the best spinner of all time. sigh.

He moves his arm towards the ball and even though it's against his body, he uses his arm to guide the ball which makes it a foul.
This. If Simpson had left it, it would have hit him in the ribs. However, he moved the arm to make sure it deviated.

No he doesn't. The ball hits in line with his body. His arm was further ahead. It hits him in the elbow which is by his side.

His elbow is out from his body but there's not much point continuing to discuss it as it wasn't given.

Where do you want his arm? Above his head?

Mate it can be down by his side or tucked into his body as he had it, but it has to stay there, his arm is in motion as the ball hits him and as such it guides the ball away. It's really not that difficult.

The part of the arm the ball struck, was there. If it had hit further up his arm, I absolutely agree with you. But it didn't make contact further up his arm.

That's really not the point. It doesn't matter that the part of the arm it hits is in front of his body.

If I was playing and someone smashed the ball at me and I put my hands up to protect my face, my hands would be in an unnatural position, but in front of a part of the body that if my hand wasn't there, it would be fine to connect with. If I then move my hands away from my body as the ball hits them, that would be a foul. If I leave them still to protect my face, it wouldn't be a foul. Simpson's arm was in motion as the ball hit his arm.

I don't think it is a penalty. I'm obviously biased but it hits his elbow which is right in front of his ribs. Had it hit further up his arm, that wasn't in front of his body, then it would 100% be a penalty. The elbow (where the ball hit) wasn't in an unnatural position.

Just my 2c.

****'s sake.

Leicester deserve to lose the title just for that unforgivable spelling error.

In front of his ribs. Where an arm naturally hangs.

Ahh well, agree to disagree :thumbsu:

I don't walk around with my arm raised in front of my ribs, but fair play if you do. That's considered an unnatural position on the football pitch.
