The only thing that keeps me going after a mondays read of the game is thinking about the matchups of the upcoming game so here goes

Didak- collingwoods best player now that pendlebury is injured, the guy is in great form, the last three weeks in a row he has beaten his most disposals total, and he is still kicking goals. if we are to win, he MUST be stopped, he is quick and elusive, he also has a temper, Matt Deboer come on down, i love this kid, and while he has been great playing in the middle, i think we are going to need him to put a hard tag on didak, he will never die wondering, and his hardness at the man and the ball could rattle didak, he is fit and quick

Davis- before this guy became consistent, the only team he used to dominate against was freo, he has to be manned up. if he plays as a forward pocket, i would give greg broughton first crack, although im not sure he will have the speed, but he has determination and would beat davis in the air. if davis was to play on a wing, i would put ibbotson on him, he is disciplined and can hurt the pies the other way, making davis accountable

Medhurst- rumour is, is that racoon head will be back this week, he has had his one good year with the pies, expect him to revert back to his mark pointing, umpire arguing ways, he is easily frustrated and doesnt like it really physical. im not a fan of dodd, but i think that he could hold his own against medhurst if he plays, and i think dodd will dish out his fair share of physicality to get under medhursts skin

Thomas- i have never been sold on this guy, he always seems to do the flashy things but not much else, he has copped criticsm this week so expect him to fire up, if he plays forward im not sure who we could put on him, it may be that we just have to put schammer on him, as he is quick and disciplined

cloke- easy, tarrant will take him, and tarrant will beat him, that is one matchup im sure we will win.

anthony- concerns about his ribs, if he plays, id put grover on him as anthony is not your standard key forward, he doesnt like to wrestle, he is a leading forward, i think this is a matchup that could very much go a long way to determining the result of the match as anthony doesnt need many shots a goal to hurt

swan- gets a lot of junk time stats and easy possessions, but he can really hurt you- on him, i have no idea, we could make hase or pav go head to head with him, if pavlich was with him, i think swan would not be too comfortable with that, as he would be very aware of pavlich's attacking abilities

I'd put de Boer or Schammer on Swan. He always does a number on us.

I'd say Broughton will go to Medhurst.

Hill will play on Davis.

Mcpharlin - Anthony
Tarrant - Cloke
Dodd - Didak
Broughton - Medhurst
DeBoer - Swan
Duffield - Davis

Duffield and Broughton to be the usual go-to men coming out of defence, should both rack up 3-+ possies as Medhurst and Davis arent the most disciplined forwards going the other way.

Grover - Anthony
McPharlin - Cloke
Tarrant - Medhurst
Broughton - Davis
Dodd - Lockyer (provided Lockyer plays forward like last week)
DeBoer - Didak
Duffield - Thomas

Schammer to run with Davis whenever he goes into the midfield.
Ibbotson - Swan

Thornton - Shaw

I'd go with Tarrant on Medhurst because I want McPharlin to play in defence and Tarrant is much more flexible than McPharlin and Grover.

Just a note, the notion that Swan isn't damaging is a myth. Yes, a lot of his possessions don't hurt. But his contested marking and one-on-one ability is extremely damaging, not to mention he is pretty dangerous around goals. Very underrated 'damage' factor, underestimate him at your peril. Though it's easy to do when we have Didak and Davis going through the middle as well, they are deadly!

Agreed that Tarrant will kill Cloke. I personally don't think Anthony or Medhurst will play, so you should have us covered up forward.

40 swan possies = 5 judd possies.

I don't think anyone here said anything to that effect. Anyone who gets the pill more than 30 times a game is bound to do some damage, unless it's Leigh Brown that is.

40 swan possies = 5 judd possies.

Indeed...

I'd say 40 Swan disposals = 30 Judd disposals. :thumbsu:

Though in saying that, everyone has their more damaging matches. Judd might get 30 and be un-influential, or he might get 20ish and tear the game apart. Same can be said for Swan, some of his 30 disposal matches have been far superior to the high 30s matches.

Dodd > Didak
Schammer > Swan
DeBoer > Davis
McPharlin > Anthony
Grover > Cloke
Broughton > Medhurst
Duffield > Thomas

I'm more worried about who we put on H.Shaw, that guy sparks everything, need a permanent man on him, perhaps Ibbo?

If there's one thing I've learnt from Dream Team, it's that a simple forward tag on Shaw will shut him right down, doesn't need to be anyone special. Maybe one of our runners can stick close by.

wasnt meaning to down play swan who is a fantastic player, but i honestly think that didak and davis are the ones who will put us to the sword, and you cant tag everyone

Collingwood will really miss Pendles being out. And I think Anthony and Meds are gone as well - which if true would see us have some flexibility for once!!

In order of importance:

Didak - Tarrant
Davis - Ibbo if Davis is mid, Hill if Davis is forward
Swan - Schammer or Ibbo (if Davis is forward)
Lockyer - Haselby
Shaw - Broughton
Cloke - Grover
Anthony - McPharlin
Medhurst - DeBoer or Foster
Thomas - Suban

I can't see Collingwood matching:
Pav
Sandi
Duffield
Walters (or Headland if fit)
Balla

One of the best chances I'll have to finally see a win live...

Bradey being a ******** again...

I don't think we should play Grover. He wont have a matchup... and is about as useless as a drunkard trying to catch a cab at 7am.

If he plays he may as well put on a Collingwood jumper.

i actualy think that grover would be the perfect matchup for anthony, but he is going to want to hit some form soon though, he may end up playing for subi

I have been a fan of Grov's, but gee this year he has done my head in!

Anthony would kill him for speed and agility.

And he isn't playing anyway.

anthony to me really doesnt strie me as an agile or quick player, he has a good mark and a great kick enabling him to make the most of limited opportunities...... but thats just my opinion, i think that grover could do a job on him, mcpharlin would be a better option though.... anyhow if anthony isnt playing, the point is mute

grover isnt far from the end i feel
