I don't really know what to say. He may not go for the real hard ball but he did his job. Maybe it is better he doesn't, that could be for someone else. There are many players that don't go for the hard ball but are still good players, they recieve the hard ball.

lloyd doesnt go for the hard ball, i think he might, what do u call going for a mark and having 5 or 6 players jumping into your back, watch the essendon bulldogs match from rnd21, there were plenty of hard balls gone for

buckley is a good one to talk about going for hard balls, he doesnt mind picking up a lazy 40 possesions by receiving out on the flanks, (could this not be the only place he receives it???)

Sure Nathan may not go for the hard ball but someone has to recieve it. He gets plenty of possessions and he uses them. Another like this lately is Glen Jakovich, he does get the hard balls sometimes but he also waits out and recieves it more often than not and he uses it. He has won the club champion 4 times. Now he should take the captaincy. GO GLEN.

Lloyd is soft, lets face it. The ability to win the ball does not make you a tough player, in fact he gets so many free kicks in relation to other fowards that it is a joke. Even lloydie pulled out of the irish tour cause he had a sore fingernail, sorry ankle. you can say what you want but i would never cheer for him if he went to geeloong

Lloyd plays in front week after week, gets cannoned into by numerous defenders, yet when he gets a free kick, which he is entitled to under the laws of the game, he is labeled as soft. Clearly no one should get a free kick as this means that they are soft! Perhaps we should abolish free kicks, this would weed out the softies!!!

Just because he isn't at the bottom of packs, does not make him a soft player. Not many key fowards do this, it is not their job. This does not mean he is soft. Lloyd lead Essendon's players in contests won this year. How can this be so? Soft players like him don't get involved in contested situations do they???

Obviously Geelong supporters wouldn't want to cheer for Lloyd, they'd much prefer to cheer for that bastion of skill David Mensch, wouldn't they???

Matthew's ability to cop hits week in week out is a great feature of his game. To take as many big pack marks as he does is a credit to hios toughness.

g4e you have once again proven your complete lack of football knowledge, lloyd had more free kicks payed against him this year than any other tall forward, he may stage for frees from time to time but they dont get payed, the ones that are he deserves. being a geelong supporter your a good one to talk about softness,
roccas_babe you can have nathan buckley, im happy with lloyd, at the moment collingwood need lloyd more than essendon.
Lloyd is a fullforward and a full forwards job is to kick goals, lloyd has been an all-australian forward twice and is still only 21-22. lloyd and the great hardman clint bizzell would be the same age, play the same position yet i havent seen "the bizz" kick to many goals.

Am I seriously seeing this as a whole topic? It aint worth it! Jubjub, it aint Lloyd's job to go for the hardball! And if he had to do it...look back at round 21!
No-one can honestly say he is soft. He gets practically bulldozed by full-backs every week, and barely any free kicks. I don't know why people say he gets the most free kicks as back up. I don't know if the statement is true, but free kicks hasn't got anything to do with softness. It's how much illegal tackling/etc is put onto you! And no matter how many free kicks he does get, he doesn't get the amount he should because the dickheads of umpires think he fakes. Yeah, right. And the Pope is a protestant!
Matt has had a great consistent year, contributing every week and only on about 4 occasions did he kick less then 4 goals.
FYI, Lloyd didn't pull out of the I.R. because of a sore ankle....if this is all it was then that could have just rested it. He had ankle surgery, OK? So get over it!
