broadbent is 189cm and high 80s kg.
we have NEVER had a mid of his build
we were prepared to give gray, ebert and boak 3 seasons to build that "tank" or engine as it was always called
and people want to nail him on 20 games in a bad team with.zero leadership support?

our club is_desperate_ for a midfielder who has that build and potential strength.

IF-and yes it is a big if, but IF he develops aerobic fitness to go with his frame and can actually carry the ball instead of just being yet another link man, he could become the best mid we've ever had. certainly what we hoped Salopek was meant to be

I believe this thread is worthy of bumping.

Not only because I want to say I told you that I believe Broadbent will one day be recognised as our best ever midfielder, but specifically because we should re-read the 5 pages here and then ask ourselves, who else might we currently be too hasty to make decisions on that is on our list as many were similarly on this kid?

I accept that one game doesn't make a season for this kid, so sure we can't get ahead of ourselves. But tonight I saw a lot to like, particularly his pack presence, and the ground he covered, and his recovery even deep into the 4th quarter was very good

I dont know how much he was spelled tonight, I dont think it was that much, I'd love to know his TOG and run/ walk GPS stats.

It looked like in the 2nd half of the 2nd Q he was tagged as also the 3rd quarter.

I wonder if this is his (and HH's- who also showed new strings to his bow) breakout game?

You can get game time (GT), disposal efficiency, clangers, clearances, contested/uncontested and all that from the Port site. Very handy.

80% game time

http://www.portadelaidefc.com.au/tabid/8475/Default.aspx?playerid=19958

thanks for that
interesting. 80%
you add a bit of extra fitness to that and he'll put in a 38 possie game.

now there are 38 possie games- ie deledio vs port adelaide, and there are 38 possie games, as in Dane Swan in a grand final.

Really happy for him. He did it all tonight

I'm gonna call it. Will become our best multi-dimensional player we've ever had...IF he gets that supreme fitness.

The other thing is, clubs now have to have a look at him. That means Boak, Hartlett and Pearce all get to breathe out a little. Some games he won't do much, some he will, its to do with how the game is rotated

Late edit: they can add 2 or 3 brownlow points to that page too

Not in the top 30 players on our list.

To be fair that was 2 years ago - and 90% of this board agreed and wanted him delisted.

Broady (for effort and application) and Primus (for showing faith) should share the credit for his rise in status.

Not really, Natman. Broady had plenty of fans here when he wasn't getting a game under Choco. It was last year, when he became a regular and appeared to be coasting a little, that he came under some fire.

Maybe his neighbor Tyson Edwards can take some of the credit too.

So who else has the upside that we currently wouldn't mind if they were delisted?

Mine is Daniel Stewart. He doesn't want to, and needs to add 7 kilos and decide to hit the pack. If he did, I put him as a 40 goal a year solid AFL forward

I compared him to Brad Symes only 3 weeks ago. Ever since he has been in our best 3 players. I've written of D.Stewart too. Hoping he can prove me wrong also.

Ouch.

Who would you compare Stewart to now, in order to get him to perform?

Can confirm that Tyson hasn't really spent that much time with Broady. Reckons he would love to as he thinks he has huge potential but can't take any credit for his current improvement surge!

Well done to Broady for starting to produce a level of footy we are desperate for. Will need to learn to cope with the added attention, hope people don't drop off as quickly as they jumped on.
