One of my favourite players yet he's done nothing. I'd love to see this guy get some time on the ball this year against some quality opposition . I think he's going to really push hard for a spot this year after some really good form at Coburg.

Thoughts ?

I liked him too Rusty for no particular reason other than just had a really good feeling about him and Ben Nason from the time I saw them after last years draft. All the very best to him I think he's got a lot to offer.:thumbsu:

Will be interesting to see his development this year with a full preseason and no more foot issues. Hopefully can adjust his 50 handball 1/2 kick ratio

to me we have 7 players competing for two spots at hb.batchelor, dea, orielly, moore, deledio, conca, connors.

given 3 talls will be used they will come from thursfield, mcguane, grimes, astbury, gourdis, rance, and possibly post,

one of farmer or newman as a small or bp if you like. to me its time for newman to go into the midfield and farmer to get the small gig.

ive included moore among the 7 but its likely he will be the third tall so thats 6 .
also deledio is a shoe in for one flank so that leaves 5 players vieing for one spot.

they are batchelor dea orielly conca and connors.
for sure conca could play wing and im no fan of connors atm imo he needs to play in the midfield or as a mid/for.

personally i would leave one flank open for the development of all batchelor, dea, orielly, and conca, conca could come from the bench and play mid/back.
imo all of batchelor dea and orielly need the ball in front of them they need to play as defenders.

i reckon it should go like this
B/ moore/grimes - gourdis/thursfield/mcguane - farmer/newman
HB/ deledio - astbury/rance/post/ - batchelor/dea/orielly/conca.

when you look at the flexability of the group only conca deledio and newman are really capable of playing elsewhere atm.add the fact if connors conca newman are also in the running for a mid spot there are a lot of players vieing for limited mid spots.
one thing for sure there is some competition for spots try them all keep the best and trade out/delist the lesser players.

Saw him play a couple of games at coburg early last year. Played very well on corey jones who we allways had trouble with. If he can get his body right will be a player. Has a good size on him, and clean kick. Remembering he only started playing footy a couple of years ago, So will improve all the time. :thumbsu:

I saw nothing in him last year - admitedly from little game time.

If i had to commit i would say he won't be at the club in a couple of years time.

Is a big year for Dea has to get some games and show something, could make it or could be delisted by end of 2012. Here's hoping he makes it :thumbsu:

Gee RT, what did you expect from a fella that had played half a dozen U18 games prior to joining RFC, AA selection:eek:...he's going along very nicely TY, rising over every challenge that has been set, played a game or two and looked like he'd been in the side all his life. Injury has set his progress back some but gee, don't underestimate the kid for a minute

That's a very obvious summation if you look at him as a pure half back flanker but I think this kid will show calmness in traffic and great vision distributing the ball.

He has a huge frame on him and could be your man to replace Tuck and Jackson in a couple of years.

I'd suspect to see him played in alot of positions for Coburg and maybe even spend alot of time on the ball at Coburg 2's this year.

If you look at his TAC cup highlights you'll be pleased to see he can take a good over head ball and might spend some time up forward as well.

your not the only one whos seen a bit of him. like you i like him.though i argued about us taking him where we did. im one of few who wanted him played and regularly pick him in teams.

thing is like jackson hes a dummy when it comes to footy. he is one who needs the ball in front. limited footy background says he has a long way to go to play mid at afl level. not to say he may not play else where in time. for now i reckon hb for his development.

sometimes the obvious is the way to go.sometimes people just get too smart and over look the obvious.he's a natural defender and we have few of his actual type..
im sure when at coburg they will try to further his development with different roles.
we dont have a straight ahead no nonsense running back who can actually kick and is good in the air. better someone of deas ilk than connors.also with newman getting on hes 29 in may. we need to be looking for a replacement for him right now. in a season or two batchelor and dea could well be important cogs in the back half.

as far as tuck and jacksons replacements go. well we took martin theres one replacement. the return of foley theres two .we took grigg and houli both big bodies and also drafted conca who can play inside and out.
next draft we take a caddy type. with hopefully one of helbig and contin stepping up, with contin training the house down. the days of glass half fulls should sooner than you think be behind us.
as i have continually said i dont see the need to play both jackson or tuck we are to the stage where we need just one for now.

Jake Batchelor is capable of being part of a midfield rotation as well as his preferred hbf IMO

Agreed, He can play anywhere from what I've seen at the Stingrays But I think he'll settle back half with stints through the middle.

if the knocks on his accoutability ring true he may well have to go midfield.
have to admit i havent seen enough to form an opinion either way.

First I have heard of this Santa?

Don't things look bright for the football club Santa. The recruitment team have given Hardwick and co a smorgasbord of competition all over the ground except for CHF.

That will take care of it self in the next 2 drafts or when free agency arrives. Your starting to sound like a Richmond supporter.

Every now and then you sneak in with the humans. Keep up the good work. I've never seen you give a wrap to the recruitment department before.

My points already been discussed...
1) Has had less junior footy than most
2) Injury last year restricting development
3) Potential as an inside mid

A few years in the Burgers should see how he goes. Has potential, but so does everybody.

This guy was the best performed out of all our draftees (bar Martin) early last season. He was going great guns at VFL level, regularly getting in the bests - it's a pity he was struck down by injury before he could adapt to the pace of AFL. He looked very much like a deer in the headlights in his first few games for Richmond - but the only way to get him more comfortable with the game and the pace of AFL is to keep playing him.

:)If he's in competition with Connors he'll lose out.
Heard from someone down at the club ... and just confirmed by reading the Herald Sun this morning ... that Connors is burning during pre-season and a lock at one of the HB flanks!!!
As long as Dea steadily improves I'll be happy!!! Played stuff all football ... less than about 30, including under-age stuff. Has come a long way!

geez, the newbies would wanna be burning to challenge for connors spot...he was borderline AA in 2010 and with reports he is sizzling, 2 words, LOOK OUT:eek:
Connors was nowhere near AA selection, Bo. Get your hand off it pal.
