Out of contract and looking to leave...
He is a local boy and would be handy as we have our other areas covered Eg Forward line hawkins ablett mooney johnno
mids covered
Backline..... just need another not much there besides our gun 6 atm.

Should we make a play?

What would we give up?

Prismall and 1st pick for me!

I'd be happy to have Goose here, and St Kilda need a ruckman badly, so maybe a deal could involve King perhaps?

We'd still have to fit him under our salary cap. I'd imagine Goose would command a pretty penny and we are going to stuggle as it is ATM.

Because of the salary cap restrictions I can only see us trading for draft picks ths year.

if the trade involved king, it would free up a bit of room in the salary cap.

what type of coin would he be on anyway?

You can't afford a player of his caliber sitting in the reserves and who is he going to replace?

Id rather; Scarlet, Egan, Mackie & Milburn. We need a kid that won't cost us a lot on the salary cap and is willing to spend 70% of his time learning the trade in the reserves. Much rather see us upgrade our draft picks so that we add quality kids to our list. We can't afford goose with Selwood & Hawkins contracts coming up next year.

would love to see matty down at geelong

if king goes we'd have a bit of $$$ to offer....

i'd be happy to trade him, but really, would any team take him on????? he has a bad injury history and has hardly played a senior game the last year or so and he's gotta be late 20s now (?)

Exactly. Don't need him.

I wonder if he'd even be willing to come down the highway. May still be harbouring some resentment and bitterness toward our treatment of his uncle from awhile back.

It would be strange if a person had more resentment towards a club on behalf of his Uncle than what is own son seems to have towards the same club.

At least his uncle could go and watch his son and nephew play in the same team ... the VFL side

I remember him saying that he did not want to go to Geelong when he was drafted. The reason was that they treated his uncle badly and also that they were a rable at the time

as l wood like to see big matty maguire at the cats its prob not the best move.seeing that the cats have a very good back six and it's a very good mix too. and he would come with a price tag, better looking for a young quick player that can play down back thats at least 185cm to 192cm sum one like j gibson from north

I agree we have a very good back six...
But my point being when ego went down we all realised there was nothing as back up. He is young and proven at afl level and we be worth a look at especially the saints needing a ruckman eg king.
i dunno exactly where but i could find room for him in our side. He is quality!

we have made our mistake with trading for older ruckmen... saints would want some running midfielders or ruckmen type.. prismall could be involved in a deal, but with the amount of money he'd cost plus some of your players after more coin, he would be hard to fit in...

plus i don't want him to go, once he gets a full pre season on his leg i imagine he'd be back to his old form, hopefully anyway

Plus three of our oldest players are there. Not that any are going in the immediate future, but need to look at grooming people to replace them

Especially when they already have the dud from West Coast in their reserves also. Saints won't go for another ruck who is injury prone.

How about Donahue as a F/S pick ?? I think he has a year left, but obvious choice to play for the Cats, and is a bigger backman I believe.
