Traded Matt Owies - West Coast's newest forward

That's because that was NOT the deal!
You say to look at it in it's entirety, then ignore pick 14 from the Blues as part of the deal for 3.
IT WAS NOT 12 & OWIES FOR 3...
WC can still get a good deal for Barrass, then package up 12 and the Barrass pick to try and move up the order if they want.
Or try to get Richmond or North's future 1st. Go into the next draft with 2 x top 5 picks before the Tassie drafts.

What are you missing?

Where did you get 14 from?

Need to view it in entirety first.

Eagles could have traded Barrass to Hawks for 14

14 could have gone to Tigers for Baker.

The issue is Owies worth. There’s no world 12 and Owies is worth 3.
How can you view it in it's entirety by using a player that hasn't even been traded yet?
You realise you'd need to add whatever Barrass is traded for right? He doesn't just show up on your list for nothing.

It's still a pretty shit deal for them, but nowhere near as bad as you're making out.

No wonder you're struggling with this.
If you break the deals down as separate exchanges:
Carlton traded 12 and 14 to WC for pick 3 (plus some later pick swaps and Owies as steak knives).
WC then sent 14 (from Carlton) to Richomnd for Baker.

How else do you think Richmond got 14 and where do you think it came from?

He may have his limitations, but kicking out a guy who can consistently kick 30 plus goals a season, when Carlton desperately need more avenues to goal is hard to make sense of.

Sounds as if they are not managing their cap space well at all.

They needed list spots opened up.

So moved on players out of contract.

Obviously couldn't trade out any others or afford to pay someone's contract out early.

So not great list planning.

Great trade result for the Blues.

Terrible result for Eagles.

Philhawk is genuinely rattling that Eagles turned down the offer for Barrass. Bloke just making up deals in his head at this point.

Thats fair, but this is damning.

It’s not as if he’s a high pressure forward as well, with below average tackling stats.

With the lack of entries expected into the Eagles F50, I think he’s really going to struggle.
It was written into Owies contract.
NO CHASING
NO TACKLING
Under no circumstances apply pressure.
Oh and kick goals.

You can always delist a contracted player and take them back in the rookie draft to free up a list spot. I read an article the other day that had Carlton considering DGB as a SSP selection if he gets delisted from the Hawks so they must have a free rookie slot.

I think it is way more likely they are at pussy's brim with regards to the cap and freeing up $300k plus in going from Owies to a draftee helps that out.

Nope. Motlop, Durdin, Fog, Kemp all expected to overtake and younger. Williams will play fwd next year. JSOS returns from injury next year. Smart list management.
