I should clarify my position - I don't think Trigg "had no choice". He definitely had more than one choice. However, as soon as he made the decision not to allow Rendell to explain the comments, and therefore assured that the sound bite would be attributed to Rendell (and therefore the club) in the isolated context that it was presented to us, he then had no choice. At that point, it really was untenable to keep Rendell on board.

I don't agree. What should have happened is Matt should have been suspended immediately with pay, (thus showing quick and decisive action and placating supporters and sponsors) and then subjected to an investigation. Natural justice demands no less and is standard practice.

That he was pressured into resigning reeks of the smelly hand of AD.

Someone tweeted Mifsud the following:
"@jason_mifsud Mate, you've shown great courage this past week. Hopefully lots of good will come of it. And you will not be persecuted. Dazza"

He replied:
"@DarylAdair thanks mate. Complex situation. Some understand, most don't but overall it's the right thing."

Yeah just seen that.

After a two minute twitter search interesting to see Ali Fahour posting on a lot of feeds of people defending Rendell yet Misfud not.
What was Fahour saying?

Already sent him a couple of tweets.
Did you ask him why it took him 6 weeks to realise he was offended and whether his "friend" Grant Thomas was lying when he said he (Misfud) said he wasn't offended?

Well done Matty rendell...

Ali fahour ‏ @AliFahour
@Robbo_heraldsun on what basis?

Mark Robinson ‏ @Robbo_heraldsun
Rendell knows 500 indig, prob 500 more than most people. He wants to help. Sloppy wording should nit mean his head is lopped.

Ali fahour ‏ @AliFahour
@Robbo_heraldsun does knowing indig people or being friends with indig people give you the right to comment freely?

Then ALi Fahour retweeted this:

Matt Rendell digging a deep hole. "They" "Their" "Aboriginal Life" Good model is to get them to leave home at 14. No, not racist at all...

How is that any different to Che Cockatoo-Collins in his article referring to Aboriginals as "we" and non-indigenous as "others" ?

Sounds like Fahour has a major axe to grind. He doesn't seem to actually understand what racism actually is. It's a lot more about the intent behind what you're doing, not what you are doing. If there's hatred and a desire to hurt behind it then it's racism, but it's clear there is none of that from Rendell. Fahour sounds like he's reading much too much into words, rather than what's behind them.

Or he's choosing NOT to listen to the context.

Instead we're now tainted by the stain of both disloyalty and kowtowing.

At least we're not branded as racists though :thumbsu:

With the way Rendell was so quickly disposed of by our club, it did make it seem like we had a racism problem that had to be exterminated.

So I'd say we are tainted with disloyalty and racism.

Misfud posted this on March 16:

Important we don't focus on lowest dominator here but this cannot go unchallenged. Majority of Clubs are very good. http://m.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/afl-club-prefers-white-parents-20120315-1v8az.html

Jason Mifsud, the AFL's community engagement manager, confirmed there had been a hardening of attitudes against Aboriginal players at some clubs. ''I have had direct conversations with a number of recruiting officers. A recruiter from one club told me that 'unless they have a white parent we are not going to draft an Aboriginal player and our club would not be alone in that'.

That would be like saying that someone who volunteers in a poor village in a 3rd world country, like in Africa, who comes back from their visit and refers to those in the village as "they" or "them" and says that it would be good if they got out of their village to give themselves a better chance at a good life, if that's what they want and tries to help that to happen is "racist".:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Please tell me he doesn't work for the AFL that we all love.:eek::eek: :thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

I hope he's copping it big-time on there. I've never had any desire to join up to Twitter before, but now I can see a value in it.

Why is a paid AFL official being allowed to tweet inflammatory tweets on the subject?
