It never is. What I would like to see if you guys backing this club. Did you know that in last 24 years the Nab Cup winners, 71% have gone to play finals while 54% have made the prelim. Look at what West Coast did last year from an ever worse position.

And in the meantime allow yourselves the freedom to read on the history of this country and what it represents. There is a lot interesting will things you would find out. The Australian Indigenous culture is an amazing culture, suspected to the oldest in the world at around 50,000 years old.

Do you realize how annoying it is to have other club supporters telling us what to think, do or feel is?????? Very ironic if you ask me!!

Thanks, primary school teacher.

And this makes it ok to throw another fellow human being under the bus. I have not seen anyone seriously arguing that Indigenous cultures are irrelevent or have no value. No one has denigrated the rich culture Indigenous players bring to our "mainstream" society and to football.

No one has denied the horrible history that Australia has with its Indigenous people. Your points are all (almost anyway) true, but completely irrelevent in this situation.

Misfud on Marnbrook tomorrow??

He has chosen a pretty safe environment to give his version of events. He's probably not expecting any hostile questions.

Judging by their tweet, you could be on the money:

“@marngrook: @jason_mifsud breaks his silence & speaks exclusively to @marngrook following Matt Rendell's racist comments. 8:30 Thurs @ABC2”

I love the Crows, and I'll barrack my arse off for them when the season starts - but they aren't perfect, and when they make decisions or do things I don't agree with, I'll say so - that doesn't mean I support them any less.

The other part of your post, I agree with, but at the same time, we need to respect the past while looking to the future.

:thumbsu: totally agree here. The point is the lynch mob mentality of the AFL - no due process - nor indeed a chance for Matt to be "re-educated". Just throw him out the system.

So now any one who has the temerity to advise the AFL on any recruiting strategies better beware.

I said on Monday night they'd keep him out of the media for a week or so, then have him do a soft, pre-planned contrived interview with an 'AFL approved' media entity - I predicted Caro, but this is even more suitable.

Not surprised at all.

Do you think honest debate on this topic has been furthered by Vlad & Mifsud? Or will every coach, player, and recruitment manager in the country keep their mouths shut and ignore the issue from now on for fear of ending up like Rendell? No-one in this industry will give Jason Mifsud the time of day from now on.

People say Rendell's position was untenable the moment he made that statement. I say Jason Mifsud's job became impossible to do the moment he decided against counselling Rendell and instead betrayed his honest confidence and played the race card. No one will give him an honest opinion, ever again, or work with him on how to fix the issue of indigenous players leaving the AFL. He's set his own agenda back 5 years chasing publicity for it.

And no man's opinion of another man's comments, be they white, black, brown or blue, is righteous or pure enough to see anyone sacked. That is the opposite of equality, and the opposite of free speech.

They have probably been told by the AFL what questions they can ask and what questions they cant ask!

An excellent recruiter. He's turned the club's direction around entirely, since the disaster that was the Fantasia era.

However, he has a more than capable replacement in Hamish Ogilvie, who is/was responsible for identifying most of our recent Victorian draftees.

Having a club smeared by racism can last a long time - just ask Collingwood. It took them more than a decade to rid themselves of the stain after Winmar's accusations in 1993. Is saving the career of one man worth a decade's worth of damage to the club? I think not.
When did this become gospel?

Yes, most certainly, if you have courage of your convictions.

Personally I think what Hird said is worst. Making a claim that someones race means that they are less physically able to compete and excel is shocking. I don't see how such a claim is helpful in any way.

Rendell (assuming that he is telling the truth) seems to have made a drastic and rash comment to highlight possible (and quite likely) future outcomes regarding the retention of Aboriginal footballers from remote communities in a meeting with the person responsible for Aboriginal engagement.

If Misfud was really such a good friend and was extremely upset at what Rendell then he should have said something then and there (or after if it was something that took time to build). Ask Rendell to clarify what he meant. I mean how hard is it to ask a long standing friend, "Matt, what the heck do you mean by that?". Get Rendell to clarify that he meant that if the trend continues that in the near future young men from remote communities, who struggle to acclimatise to the rigors of AFL life, will not be drafted due to the perceived and actual risk.

Combine the fact that Misfud didn't call Rendell on this with this Auspost-Fahour-Sponsorship issue makes me think that this situation is fishy.

cheers Sidekul - come on in the water's fine :). Tonight we are covering everything from world history to Roby. This thread has some serious legs.
I've been thinking of putting my feet in the water lately... however, I am a little wary. I work for a major broadcaster as a tech assist, so I hear all the 'nice' things that the 'talent' say off air about each other and others involved in AFL. Have to be careful I don't say something here and it gets back to someone and I lose my job (I've been told it has actually happened before).

This. Maybe there is the remote possibility that Jason Mifsud may have been genuinely offended by Rendell's comment (even if taken way out of context), perhaps much more so than MR thinks given he still says they are mates. That said it really doesn't make an awful lot of sense how this could snowball into such a mess which doesn't help anyone or the issue at its heart. Still shaking my head at the whole thing.:(
