I suppose Vader when they tweet Mifsud's coming on to discuss Rendells racist comments, even before they have interviewed him, they dont come across as too independent

Given that he's been tried & convicted of the crime, I don't think it's too rash of them to tweet using language implying his guilt.

I'm hoping Mifsud tells us what Rendell had to say and explains why he found it so offensive.

I'm beyond considering that there's even a possibility of Rendell's innocence. Anyone still believing that needs to open both eyes.. and stop believing in Father Christmas, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy.

I want to know what he said - and why it was so bad that he had to be sacked, a penalty far exceeding the precedents set by others who made racist comments?

Absolutely. I've never been a fan of Thomas but why would he lie now - when Mifsud is also his mate? And why would Mifsud "beg" Trigg not to sack him if he truly believes Matty was racist? So much still doesn't add up.

Nobody believes that Rendell is racist. Nobody.

That doesn't mean that he didn't make comments which are fundamentally racist and offensive, as a result of sheer ignorance. Is ignorance a sacking offence? Surely re-nedification could have been considered, considering the precedents?

Bit hard to see it going any way other than 2. I guess the proof will be in the pudding.

Well, it appears that all parties (including Rendell) have accepted that "racist comments" were made, so advertising it as such isn't worrying me all that much. Further to this, nobody has really referred to Rendell as being a racist, the word "ignorant" had been preferred.

If they advertised the show as Mifsud spilling the beans on that dirty rotten hood wearing white supremacist (exaggeration fully intended) then I'd be a bit more apprehensive.

in context, his comment about one white parent wasn't racist (sorry Vlad, but you got that one wrong)

that leaves the idea of putting indigenous kids through scholarships with private schools, a la Cyril. Is that fundamentally racist and offensive?

Wonder if he'd answer if the timing was related to the Aust Post program last week, or how Rendell could leave the meeting not aware that he had offended - and was under that impression for months despite contact .... or what his solution to the problem is.

You see the bit in bold (i.e. the trial process or lack thereof and the extreme nature of the punishment) is the thing that gets me - not the guilt versus innocence. I have no doubt he offended the 2 guys so not defending his innocence. But the process from offending to quick summary execution really stinks. Vlad the Impaler is well and truly named.

Instead he has made this public and in so doing, completely polarising the community and almost ensuring that this issue will never again be spoken about in public OR private for fear of being branded a racist.

You can see that many people are fed up with the "preciousness" of some that take offense at so much as a "they" or "them". Finger pointing, accusations, character assassination does absolutely nothing to help the cause. The motto should be "don't berate - educate!".

As distinct from people like yourself, who don't want to hear that Rendell's comment were indeed racist (albeit unintentionally)?

Like it or not, I think there's enough evidence around now to support a guilty verdict. Whether or not the punishment fits the crime (and who was judge/jury/executioner) are fair questions, but I think we've moved past the point where Rendell's guilt has been established.

I do want to hear what happened. I want questions answered, but apparently the AFL (through Mifsud) have declared that answers aren't important.

And this just tells me that he is unsuited to this role. If he of all people can't educate one of his old friends on a matter both are passionate about, how would be handle someone who he didn't have a relationship with and who was opposed to helping indigenous kids (if there is such a person in the AFL). This is a complete indictment of the AFL and its PC BS.

I'd characterise myself as 'left'leaning' and one who has generally supported the viewpoint of minorities.

But seriously this BS has simply gone too far when a bloke of 35 years good service gets the immediate sack despite obviously not having racist intent. Where was the mediation, education and willingness to explain?
