Also, can someone help me out? Trigg said Misfud was very offended, right? Have we heard this from anyone else? Demetriou? Or just Trigg?

I was under the impression that Misfud had brought it up because it was topical to the meeting, not because he was offended by it, and Demetriou had run with it from there. Perhaps I had it wrong?

Trigg spoke to Misfud. I'm assuming in that conversation he was told that they were VERY offended. Misfuds own tweets indicate that he was offended:

Daryl Adair ‏ @DarylAdair
@jason_mifsud Mate, you've shown great courage this past week. Hopefully lots of good will come of it. And you will not be persecuted. Dazza

jason mifsud ‏ @jason_mifsud
@DarylAdair thanks mate. Complex situation. Some understand, most don't but overall it's the right thing.

- and his quote in the Age said:

''I have had direct conversations with a number of recruiting officers. A recruiter from one club told me that 'unless they have a white parent we are not going to draft an Aboriginal player and our club would not be alone in that'. ''That is a mindset that is permeating back through parts of the industry. Fortunately, there are still many clubs that embrace Aboriginal talent," said Mifsud, whose role includes managing indigenous affairs.
Mifsud warned that if the attitude achieved a stronger foothold, the AFL would "turn 180 degrees and within five years we would have undone 15 years of hard work and progress.
"When people start talking about race as part of a recruiting decision, and then splitting that out to be a question of mixed race, fundamentally people are going into areas they have no idea about. It is ignorant and offensive," he said.
Mifsud said the attitude of some recruiters meant that "if you are too black you are not going to get drafted and in [places like] Warrnambool you are not black enough so you are not going to get drafted."

According to Grant Thomas (mates with Misfud) Misfud told him he WASN'T offended. Who the **** is telling the truth?

Thomas said Misfud, his mate, laughed the comments off to him.

Ruscy makes a good points - odd that aboriginal people and players are backing him, while the thought police aren't.

Why were you not overly impressed?

Sure Rendell was obviously upset and emotional, but he was almost incoherent in his ramblings. It wasn’t until he talked about the hurt he is feeling personally that his thoughts became clear and articulate.

Now I’m not saying I don’t believe him and he thinks he has done nothing wrong, has offended no one and was only trying to help, but he did come across as a bit of a loose cannon and someone who could embarrass the club.

You don't condemn a bloke because he's too emotional to have his thoughts straight - particularly one who's been accused of something he's worked hard all his life showing that he's not.

I've spoken to Matty several times and he is normally very articulate - although yes, he can be a loose cannon at times. I would forgive him his ramblings in this instance though, given the extreme duress he's been under.

Correct Stabby, Trigg is the only one I have heard say that Misfud was very offended. You are also correct that it was only bought up when AD quizzed Misfud on another issue, pretty sure it was regarding Liam Jarrah. AD then went on to ask Misfud if there is a problems, that's when Misfud apparently told AD about Matts comments.

Still huge gaps between stories.
Misfud never volunteered the information, only when prompted by AD. Last night on Footy Classified Grant Thomas said that Misfud laughed this off and today Trigg says Misfud was highly offended.

Highly offended but never said anything to anyone after that meeting ....makes complete sense:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Are you serious? Sure he may lack a little polish, but he was outstanding. He stayed on messaged, defended himself beautifully (especially from Caroline Wilson looking for an angle) and spoke from the heart, which tells me he was speaking the truth. I cannot say the same for AD or Trigg tonight. They may speak well but what they were saying was utter rubbish. Fancy words but no substance. The complete opposite of Rendell

Look at my quotes above: Misfud clearly said Matt's stance was "ignorant and offensive" in his statement last week. He's obviously also told Trigg that.

Presumably because Demetriou is not a very polished speaker. He's extremely rough around the edges.

I imagine it's a big a turn-off to some as it is charming to others.

I was referring to Rendell. I actually thought Demetriou was very articulate and polished, too much so maybe. He also appeared to intimidate the other three on the Couch.

Like I've said now three times: This is Misfud's quote from THAT media conference last week where all this became public.

"When people start talking about race as part of a recruiting decision, and then splitting that out to be a question of mixed race, fundamentally people are going into areas they have no idea about. It is ignorant and offensive," he said.

Flawed analogy, yes, but the fundamental thought process behind it is very, very similar.

The thought process behind the (alleged) Stolen Generations is that the aboriginal kids needed to be taken away from their parents and cared for by white people, in order become valued members of society.

The though process behind Rendell's academy is that the aboriginal kids need to be taken away from their parents and cared for by white people in order to be able to contribute to the AFL.

Agreed, the Stolen Generations were (allegedly) taken without permission, while attendees at Rendell's academies would not be. But the fundamental thinking behind their entire existence is the issue here, not permission or the lack of it.

ALLEGED??!!!??

Fukn ALLEGED!?!

Sure am, I would not have written it otherwise. Maybe I am a little sensitive to good communication skills, but to me, I can see why the AFC maybe embarrassed. I’m not saying I don’t believe what he was saying, but if I was his employer, I would be keeping him in the back office, that is for sure.

The Aboriginal people who backed him were not at the meeting. All they can do is vouch for his character. Also we have only heard Rendell's version directly. Other comments about Misfud and co are hearsay. Only Misfud and his mate can clear this up.

A.Demetriou wouldnt have given this a seconds thought after Rendell was sacked. Theres no accountability with tribunal f@$kups or rule change f@$kups so why would he care that they'd got this wrong too. Its clear in all this that somebody is lying or changing their story and we will never find out the truth. The AFL will continue on their merry way ruining our game. I dont remember the Wayne Jackson era having so many poor decisions that affected the game so negatively.

I should probably go back and edit my post, but I meant Rendell as well  Mind must have been elsewhere when I wrote Demetriou, my mistake.

Do we know WHEN Thomas spoke to Mifsud and he "laughed it off"? My initial perception is that this occurred immediately after the comments went to print in January, before this all blew up.

So, I believe that Grant Thomas is telling the truth.

Unfortunately for Mifsud, he's had Vlad's (per)version of the truth rammed down his throat, and the good puppet is now towing the AFL line, looking like a goose to all with the ability to think for themselves.

I thought Thomas said that he had spoken to Mifsud that very day.

Agree with your comments re Mifsud.

If you have only heard him speak once, in an emotive live interview, how can you base your comments on that? I have heard him speak many times and I love listening to him. He speaks truths, is interesting and always engaging. I know who I would rather listen to

He did clarify that it was based entirely on this one interview. Everyone's allowed their own opinion.

I see the AFC website has an article about why Trigg acted as quickly as he did:

http://www.afc.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/4417/newsid/131123/default.aspx

Adelaide has been criticised for forcing Rendell's resignation too swiftly after last Friday's revelation, but Trigg said that the speed with which the former recruiter's comments came to light meant the club had no choice.

Trigg said he became aware of Rendell's comments last Wednesday and by Friday morning the issue was on the front page of Melbourne newspaper The Age.

"If we hadn't been dealing with it straight away, in our view…we'd be perceived as being racist," he said.

What, for one, two days? As others have suggested, we could have put him on suspension with public orders to "explain yourself" and a clear indication that the club fully disagrees with the quote, and then made our decision after Rendell had had a chance to speak to the media, as he personally requested!

Not good.

Not sure why Thomas would have spoken to him back then. No one knew anything of it back in January.

I'm confused, didn't this only "air" last week? The meeting was in January, but this only became public last Thursday I thought.

Why don't we wait until we get as many facts in as we can? There's clearly more to come out.
