With his retirement the squad has lost not only a great player who strived to best his limitations, but a fiercely driven and loyal servant whose stabilising influence was particularly important following the drama that unfolded post-06.

Unfortunately, Mitchell and Petrie bowing out has taken the spotlight off a bit in the media. As a WCE supporter, I know who I have the most respect for. Thanks again, Matt! You bloody legend.

Nice debut. Potting people who are part of a community you are debuting in based on you not liking Matt copping criticism.

Some might argue that they have done a bit in life and that a part of that life is the enjoyment they get supporting their Eagles.

And that enjoyment has been diminished by watching a team of which Matt was such a significant part.

Just like others get so pissed off at Jetta (as an example).

I've got no problems with criticism like any normal person, but the level of criticism on Matt over the last year or so that I've seen is a joke. Fair enough if people think he should be dropped, I thought the same midway through the season, but the level of vitriol directed towards him was a disgrace. People were counting down the minutes that we had to put up with him in the side on the GWS semi final thread. He deserved better treatment than that, like him or not. And I think that piece he wrote reflected the dedication with which he carried himself in his career.

Anyway, what's done is done, but I still think that people on here should show a base level amount of respect for our players, whether they're in good form or not.

I was more saying that there are people out there doing something with their life, whatever that may be, and there are people sitting on the sidelines having potshots at them above a reasonable level of criticism. it's a bit of a poor path to go down to sit around and slag off the people who are actually out there doing something

I think the reason why Priddis has copped it so much of the years is that he's become a focal point for our inability to develop a decent midfield. The frustration which should be levelled at Vozzo, O'Brien and co gets taken out on Priddis because he's out there every week front and centre.

I've got respect for Priddis in that he's a hard worker and has genuinely given his all for the club over the years, but he does have some very serious flaws in his game which imo (and it's only my opinion) significantly take away from the positives he provides. I'm not going to gloss over those negatives out of "respect", or because he's out there and I'm not, or because I don't want to hurt a players feelings on the off chance they might stumble across a post about themselves. Once we start doing that we might as well shut the board down and all migrate over to the Eagles facebook page.
