Matthew Guy. Can a mediocre leader with a 3rd rate team win government?

He took away the guns though which is a surprisingly off-brand conservative move and what he is most remembered for
I mean there are more guns around now than before Port Arthur.
I know multiple people that own guns.

Howard loves the reputation boost he gets from gun control though. Never mind all the deaths his other policies have caused.

Looks like Matthew Guy will have to get used to a new media manager, because Guy's previous media manager had a major falling out with the new Chief of Staff who Guy just appointed a couple of days ago. So, on top of a trainwreck interview on the Liberal Party's favourite radio station in Victoria, 3AW, this is one of the worst weeks in Guy's political career. Guy could at least thank his lucky stars that all this didn't occur in the middle of an election campaign-imagine if it did.

is this resignation a result of:

a. mcgowan getting in his own team? ...... and/or
b. retribution for the leak?

How many did Matthew Guy have in his wedding party?

Can't believe that the Liberal Party didn't read the warning signs last November when they picked Matthew Guy to be the new leader of the Liberals last November. What they could've done was to stick with Michael O'Brien, then once the federal election was over go after any prominent Victorian Liberal who lost his/her seat in the recent federal election to be the new leader, like Josh Frydenberg, Tim Wilson or Greg Hunt.

Greg Hunt literally worked himself into hospital during the pandemic. He's going to do something less like hard work. The other two are pretty polarising figures inside the party.

Michael was never afforded clear air by a number of his colleagues. It should be noted that there were no rumblings from 2014-2018 after Matthew Guy defeated Michael O'Brien in a leadership ballot. This was never the situation after Michael got the leadership (unopposed in 2018 I should state).

Did Hunt actually work that hard? Didn't bother calling Pfizer back. Was he working on messaging but not substance?

That was clear with O'Brien. The funny thing is that I don't think the electorate sees a difference between the two, but the Guy faction was trying to make it seem like O'Brien was a wet drip but Guy would have more cut-through or presence. But that's clearly not been the case.

The party is the problem, it's in tatters. Menzies himself couldn't unite these dolts.

Surely we're well past the 3rd rate team and out to about the 11th or 12th.

The Libs are well on their way to losing Bulleen, which with the changing demographics they will struggle to pick back up going forward.

I'm surprised he got through last week
Organising a leadership spill takes some doing for a mob who couldn't organise a chook raffle.

And once they've done that, of course, it will take most of them another month or two to realise that the leadership is now open, and to try to organise a leadership challenge.

Correct.

The core value of the Liberals is to pillage as much free money as possible. Just look at our $Trillon federal debt and the plebs of Australia won't see a cent of it in their lives, such as in the form of improved infrastructure or hospitals etc.

Yes Labor line their own pockets too (they're only human) but at least they still try and advance the country 80% of the time.

The last meaningful action someone from Federal Liberal did was to repeal the gun laws. They've done nothing meaningful ever since. Same can be said at state level across the country. You're only Liberal if you're in on the rort.
SSM.

But that's the exception to an otherwise completley accurate observation.

and even on SSM they had to be dragged kicking and screaming (its also been suggested that the dutton proposal for a mail plebiscite was offered up as an alternative to a parliamentary vote on the understanding there was a high probability it would fail)

Without putting any real thought into it to make an actual list, I'll just point out the NDIS.

Oh and compulsory super.

compulsory super is ****ed and impacts actual wages, the whole purpose of it was to force wages to be kept from people to fund their retirement so the Government didn't have to

Super sucks and is neoliberal policy

NDIS I will give you, Gillard did that before Rudd got back in, just a shame we then had 9 years of the Libs to gut it.

Not confident Labor will fix those issues given they'd rather have Hollie Hughes as Deputy chair of the committee rather than Jordan Steele-John

I think you will find super is one of the key pillars - along with housing and not much else - of our very own uniquely Australian national Ponzi scheme.

Super creates a lot of little hamster wheels for happy little hamsters to peddle

Greg Hunt might have worked himself into the ground but lots of people work very hard without being in the least bit competent at what they do.

Greg Hunt is one of them
