Matthew Knights gets the axe as captain

just heard the matty knights has been axed as captain
personally im shocked, he is a great player and leader
the fave to get the position is campbell, a player rich wanted to get rid of not to long ago
i think duncan kellaway would be a good choice
what do the richmond fans think of knights getting the axe?

I've been discussing this on the team boards.

I would like to see Campbell get the job. He is experienced and talented and will lead the team to success with Frawley.

Knights was very inspirational and it is a little dissapointing to see him get axed.

D.Kellaway is a chance to get the lead role but I don't think he will.

Matthew Knights is a very good player but average material for a captain.

The captain of a footy club has to be more than just a champion player, he must be able to encourage the younger players through inspirational speeches and be an effective communicator to the media. Knights just does'nt have these particular qualities.

Captains need all these qualities and many more intangible ones, the one prerequisite that a captain does not need is to be a champion player.

I am sad that Matthew Knights is no longer captain. I don't know if it was the right or wrong decision. Only time will tell.

I am not sad that Magpie_Joffa made that utterly ******ed post. I just love how these new Collingwood supporters keep confirming my own prejudices every day.

Joffa is just pissed off that, not only did Richmond wipe Collingwood on the field this year, we rubbed their noses in it off the field.

According to various Collingwood websites they are a bit miffed that their supporters were so badly outnumbered at that game. And Richmond won all the fights in the crowd as well.

I almost felt sorry for the poor bastards.

Matty Knights is quoted in the press this morning as saying he is 'bitterly disappointed' st being dropped as captain.

If he is that pissed off he can always walk out and nominate for the pre-season draft. we would have him up in Sydney in a flash.

And another thing - can the Tigers fans explain this : The club has dropped Knights because they want to hand the job to a younger person right ? - So why is Wayne Campbell been talked about as the next captain ?

Aren't they more or less the same age ? - Or are they at least players from the same 'era' or generation ?

Why strip Knights of the captaincy just to hand it to one of his peers ?

I reckon Campbell would be a shithouse captain for Richmond, after all the club were going to delist him, and at the same time he had a gut-full as well, now we are expected to believe he is suddenly captaincy material ?

If Richmond is really serious about appointing a new captain, then make a clean break with the past and don't appoint anyone who is from the Knights / Campbell group and go with somebody who has genuine youth and enthusiasm.

Clinton King is my favourite - you cetainly couldn't do worse.

Why are you laughing Joffa? What on earth could you possibly have to laugh at? You are a Collingwood supporter. Your club is an embarassment to the competition. Only one premiership in the past 40 years. Even St Kilda can match that record.

Maybe that is it! You realise that Collingwood can't get any worse. That you have nothing left to lose. Yuu can now laugh at all those above you - all 15 that is - because there is nothing else you can do!
