GWS should be going for a Pruess/Roughead/Longer/Ceglar - wouldn’t waste time on Kruezer - surely he ain’t leaving the Blues.

Forgotten your flag year already?

Played 42 out 44 through 2016/2017.

Played the most games out of all the gun rucks over that two year period, equalled only by Martin. (Gawn 35, Grundy 41, Goldy 41, Mumford 41). And was particularly good in '17.

Pick 1 or 2 and Kreuzer is not a bad deal.

It's a good deal for both teams due to GWS' need to trim salary, get another quality veteran and get a top 2 pick next year.
That doesn’t make a huge dent in salary reduction. Shiel on about $650k and would need to pay Kreuzer about $450k. He is banged up. I suppose that’s why there is talk about mummy. They’d pay him the minimum for a year.

Shiel and Setterfield will be close to, or over the million that GWS need to shed.

At most they pay Kreuzer 450 I reckon and more like 350.

In a deal like that we’d keep paying Kreuzer out of our cap to to help both ours and the giants cap requirements.

I’d hate to see Kreuzer play for anyone but the Blues. He’s a top 5 ruck in the game at full flight and only 29. Trading your heart and soul is never a good look, better off keeping him unless he flat out requests a trade, which he will not.

I doubt Kreuzer gets traded, but I wouldn't rule it out.

Talk on the Carlton board is that SOS is open to any decent offers; not just the usual due diligence that every club would go through but that SOS wants/needs to get his hands on more picks and could be active in cashing in assets (as he has been the last few years).

I figure you don't trade for Kreuzer unless you are in premiership mode and a mature ruckman is a 'final puzzle piece'. I can see the logic in GWS and have also read (somewhere?) that Geelong are interested.

I don't want to trade him, but for argument's sake; He's contracted for 2019, would be on ~$450-500K next year and might want a contract til the end of 2020 on similar money.

Ignore all the noise. Take Shiel out of the equation, ignore what picks Carlton, GWS, Geelong etc have. Let's assume he's given clean bill of health. Straight up, what do people think he is worth? I'll kick things off; pick around 35? That's better than what Nankervis and Witts were traded for (they went early 40s). Admittedly those guys were considerably younger but also less accomplished.

NOTE: Kreuzer is one of my fave Carlton players (I have #8 on my jumper). I'd rather keep him, but interested in views for ****s and giggles.

I've always rated Kreuzer as the heart and soul of this Carlton team, why would you throw that away for pick 35?

29-30 years old is prime-time for rucks as well. Unless you're replacing him with Gawn or Grundy it seems crazy to give up a top 5 ruck.

GWS are losing Lobb and Shiel to avoid being massively in breach of the TPP. They can't add Kreuzer surely?
Well according to this thread one of Carltons best players the last 5 years is on peanuts.

One wonders who they're actually paying decent money to down there.

Love the bolded bit above, and why I wouldn't do it either.

BUT there's a thread here, and people are discussing him. And for the most part, it's a useless discussion.

You have mostly Carlton supporters talking him up as one of the league's best rucks and mostly opposition supporters calling him an old, broken-down workhorse. And of course there's questions on fitness/health.

So instead of just crapping on, I want to get some numbers and reach a conclusion. If another team wants to pay a top 15 pick (they wouldn't) Carlton would prob do the deal. If it's a pick over 30, Carlton probably wouldn't do the deal.

Unless we get some kind of consensus, this is just going to continue as the usual he's a spud/he's a champion piffle. So I'm just trying to refocus the argument. So we can have an actual discussion not a pissing contest.

(sorry, a bit rantier than I intended, but this is a bugbear of mine. people focus on a player's best or a player's worst. the key is to balance them against each other and come up with a value/conclusion)

Wasn't far off the best ruck going around last year, but that was one of maybe two years he's been able to play fully fit.

If GWS are having salary cap issues having Kreuzer sit on the injury list would not help. With the importance of rucks now it could be a high risk / high reward type move getting him in on a heavily performance based contract.

They're better off rookie listing Mumford & Fort, maybe make a play for Witts.

Why those two when Vardy was pick 72 and cleaned them both up when it counted.

Contingent on him being over the heart issues, he'd certainly be a valuable pawn in any trade for Shiel or Setterfield and would immediately improve the GWS side.
Doesn't address the supposed GWS cap issues. GWS won't be bringing in another high salary.

Gawn had an average day.

But ffs Vardy had 5 touches & 8 hitouts so he was pretty quiet that day too.

FWIW I have been told West Coast are into Kreuzer

can't see any deal getting done until it gets the thumbs up from Noosa tbh

Can’t see the Blues trading out anymore experience after what happened this year with the lack of in field experience.
Even if he manages 10+ games he will influence the young playing group.
