People see many things in the photo or painting , and both Scarlett and Bartel are not playing at their best so.. one person sees Bartel seems to have lost pace , Scarlett looks disinterested , Bartel is playing controlled effort footy , Scarlett is looking cooked......

Yeah , well I doubt it. Disinterested. These guys are competitive to their dna. We are are all guessing , from the outside , with all the knowledge gathered from game day. So if we are all guessing , let me guess. I think they are both carrying wear and tear , possibly repairable , possibly some that have reduced their ability to do the work thru the week. We have seen it most of the year in Corey yet when he got some fitness , some "feel good about his body" he was like the old Joel Corey for 6 quarters of footy.

Bartel is not the same when he is not flying and taking marks , it changes him from a good , ordinary mid to a great one. As someone mentioned , long sleeves? We will see when the season ends

But for Scarlet I think its not just a matter of a little nip and tuck , he has had back issues before , he looks restricted in his movements to me , and lacking the core strength that has been his benchmark. He looks more vulnerable to miss-match than he has for years. Scarlo , is a proud footballer, one who's personality is probably ideal as a defender , its probably not the way he want to end but few have everything they want.

Im glad no one has laid the boots in here. Im fairly broad minded for mod, probably too soft but I wouldn't tolerate anything less than polite querries. To me its like parental / child relationship. When we were all watching the club blood kids around 10 years ago , when Bartel and Kelly and Ablett were running around , struggling to hold themselves upright , when all our kids where getting bashed from pillar to post by the likes of the Lions , it was our Scarllo who was holding the fort , protecting everyone under his wing. Ohh how secure the rest of the side must have felt , know Scarllo would be there to bail them out.

Well now he is near the end , now he is the one who needs help and its up to the guys like Taylor and Lonergan and the rest to help him thru. They will not complain , they know the knowledge they have garnered from this paragon of defense. If he is sub par for the rest of the year ,so what. He is human and we owe him plenty.

So I say , relax and do what you do Matty , we have your back , your a Geelong Champion and we will not turn on our own.

If you haven't read this post.....read it now.

Says it all really.

Well, this thread has turned out to have the same fate as the Chapman and Corey ones earlier in the year. The player comes out a few weeks later and plays well and we all remember how much they will be missed when they retire. Or at least that is what I hope.

If it is Scarlo's last game at Kardina Park, he's done a mighty job today. Played across half back beautifully. Let's hope he keeps it up for the finals!

If its Scarlo last year I can only hope he gets a shiny medal to end a brilliant career...true champion

Wouldn't it be great if he came away with Norm as well? Not that the lid isn't on or anything.

The next four games are the type of games we usually lose and THE LID IS STILL ON!!!!

Another day at the office for Matty S

I've seen a few footballers over the years and a few FullBacks. Some at other clubs. Silvangi who used to wear his opponents like a cheap suit. Fletcher would have to be the most resilient of all. Southby was good before Balme killed him. The Tilt Rod Carter is never mentioned but was under rated. David Dench was probably the closest I've seen to an attacking player like Scarlo. Very good player. Probably missed a few as well.

The Cats have had some good FB's. Never saw him but Roy West must have been half decent won the Cargi in 61. Anyone who saw Scarllo sr know the apple does fall far from the tree. He wouldn't give a Full Forward the steam of his......coffee. Could kick barrel as well. Marlarky is under rated. He would take on opponents bigger and taller than himself and clean them up. But the best , without a shadow of a doubt is Matty Scarlett the merciless. The man who prowled the backline like a Jaguar stalking its prey.

From when we ordinary , to playing big games , to winning Flags we could go into games and just know the other sides forward was a dead duck.Would take on big strong aggressive opponents like Barry Hall and not give a millimetre. He was so compossed. When it would go sour it was he who could settle us an calm it all. When he smelled fear in an opponent he would punish them beyond believe. He could run off setup play and still jump in and stop the poor player who was assigned the job against. So deadly was he that other sides would play defendrs on him to quell his influence.

It will be a long while before we see another like him. While the number 30 at the Cattery will soon have a rest , im not sure who wears it over at South Barwon but they better get ready to pass it on.;)

I regretted it too.

Scarlo is god.

By the same token though, that was how you saw things at the time. He was going through a flat patch and folk were wondering what was up. You should be allowed to speak your mind I reckon, no matter how wrong things may turn out for you and your position.

That's the terrible thing about internet forums though - every bloody thing you say could have some Nelson Muntz going 'Ha Ha!' at something you wrote days, months or even years ago.

Cheers Sicko :thumbsu: ;)

No need for regrets.

Reasonable post at the time muttweed,I prefer people who are prepared to rock the boat a little above those who always take the how dare you speak evil of anything Cats.

This is his last year, there is NO doubt he will hang them up but the thing is, he will be giving EVERY little thing he has to ensure he leaves with another premiership medallion, and the boys will give EVERYTHING to help him do that...
Its going to be a very special 4 weeks boys, strap in for the ride of our lives!

Channel seven are useless!! Did anything interesting happen postmatch regarding the great man? Beautiful how he ended up with the ball at the final siren

His dad comes into my work quite a bit and we quizzed him about Matty's mindset. He said that he is 100% done and is going to play with South Barwon next year.
I'd love him to go around again but that was the last time I'd see him run around KP. Just hope he's got 4 more games like today in him

well we all know that he will bust his balls in the finals. He is a legend of the hoops. What a father son combo!

Good to see you have come to your senses. :p

Yes, posters should be able to speak their mind, and others should be able to call them out when it makes no sense! The point of the objection is not to say "Ha Ha!" but just a plea to not create roast threads about our best players who have proven themselves time and time again. It happened with Chappy, Corey, and now Scarlo. I just reckon it shouldn't be done, especially because their form wasn't even been that bad to begin with...

At least we are all in agreement that he's got himself going for the finals.
