The really poor part is that I don't think he got done for holding the ball either even though he took on the tackler. .. a bit like when Kerr ran several steps and then was wrapped up by Nocka (in a great tackle for a big man I might add). ..

Back to Watson though,
he looks to have developed into the beginnings of the player we thought he could be when we drafted him- a strong KPD with good bodywork and a long kick.
The issue of why players struggle to develop in the seconds remains somewhat of a mystery though.
As an aside, I wonder whether the best bet long term is Henderson forward and Watson back, or the other way around. I'm not sure how many of our KPP have the burst pace required to play KPF, which may be an issue down the line.

Seems everything today is Made in China - even common sense. Liking Blue Flame's work thus far (with apologies to Tim Lane). :thumbsu:
If only common sense were made in China...... I swear some of the decisions where I work are made by the umpires association.

Love the way he's seems to be coming on "before his time" too. Early for a 19yo KP player just 1 1/2 seasons into his career.
He may just be very, very good when at his peak. I had forgotten he is not even 20 yet.

Hopefully in a month or so, we will have a similar thread about Mitchell.

I just got a trophy too.
"You have been awarded a trophy: Somebody Likes You."
It sort of feels like a backhanded compliment. A small part of my online soul just died

Hendo is not a forward, simple as that !

Watson doing well and showing why we drafted him but have to say we made a mistake in not taking Darling especially when you look at what we are missing position wise.

Wow. Where to start.
Hendo is a forward champ. He was recruited as a forward given he played all his junior footy there. He attacks the footy well, looks to take front of every contest and is a bloody good shot on goal. He just needs to get his confidence is taking the ball in his hands rather than on his chest.

And with Darling, every club passed on him.

Champ.....Hendo might have been a forward in his early days but he's shown that he is not an AFL standard forward. He's a very poor mark overhead and his kicking is average. He has however shown alot since moving to the backline and has been fantastic for us and there he will stay.

As for Darling the Eagles didn't pass him up did they ? Our recruiting department has bee vey poor for many years !

Darling could very well end up another Fevola (in terms of trouble) and I'm not sure the club would go for that. Anyway it's a bit off-topic anyway.

Well all you would have to do with Darling if that happened is knock it on the head early, unlike what they did with Fev and then everyting would be fine !

I thought this was the Watson thread. Darling slid to 27, so there must have been reasons when he was ranked as a potential #1 twelve months earlier. Not our problem.

Anyway, good to see Watson finally making an impact. Darling may have made more of an instant success but then it's not a sprint to the line that counts in the context of a career.

Watto will no doubt work on his tank and pace but I'm just so impressed how composed he looks. I suppose there is a lot of room in that head for confidence :p but to see a young KPD seem so at home in the senior team is a great thing. Having the likes of Jamo and Duigan etc around him must be a big thing though and will help with his development a lot IMO. Hope he plays most games for the rest of the year.

Definitely, wouldn't it be great if he could start next year with 13 or so games under his belt, and a full preseason of fitness.

Just a matter of time for Watson to develop an AFL body and get himself match fit. A little like another big unit Wayne Hughes drafted with pick four in the 2005 draft. ;):thumbsu:

It is too soon to fap over this backline?

B: Tuohy Jamison Bootsma
HB: Yarran Watson Laidler

Good balance of speed and skill.

He isnt a no.1 go to fwd. but he is probably the best playing prospect we have, he went back because he was needed in the backline...now he is needed fwd which allows watson to play back. If mitchell can perform in the fwd line (hopefully sometime soon) then a fwed line with hendo and mitchell would look alot better than what we have now. Also add waite roaming around and we dont look too bad up fwd.

Darling got to 27 for a reason mate. Every club questioned his attitude, and I dare say had he not been a West Australian the Eagles wouldn't have looked at him either.

As for Hendo, completely disagree with you with his kicking. He'd be one of our better shots on goal at the club, and really he needs to be developed there if our club is going to move forward.

He just has to be played. Those buckets of shit at the Westpac center(link) have done it with there kids and it works. More time more confidence..

Good point.

Honestly starting to wonder about the VFL development. The difference in level has gotten further and further apart and whilst it still has it's place, i.e the rest of our players have to play somewhere and it gives them gametime and some match fitness etc, especially for those who's bodies just aren't ready... but I'm not sure any of them can really develop that well just being left in the 2's.

Yes, if Mitchell does the same it changes everything for us,for the good, structure-wise.
