What about Nathan Colenso , Josh Gore and Tahj Abberley . Are they eligible for the medal . All have great years . Will any of them be picked up this year as a mature aged recruit?
Man, I've no idea. Better off asking Yoda_. I was simply commenting on one of our overage academy boys. Yes, Lions still retain academy rights McFadyen.

And Yoda_ lucky you didn't post that on our board, as you would have been crucified for misspelling McFadyen's name.

Colenso had some decent games earlier in the year but lacks some real consistency. Has traits that translate to AFL but fear he ends up a tweeter.

Gore I haven't taken much notice.

Abberley did some neat things last weekend against Frankston. It only takes on team but another likely to be overlooked

Billy Coottee is taking the aboluste pi$$ now. 25 + 2. at 23 is right in the hitting zone. Thought he was very good in his time with Essendon's VFL team, has gone to another level in his 2 years at Norwood.
Yeah you don’t see him mentioned often as a draft prospect but he’s consistently good in the SANFL and has AFL attributes from what I’ve seen. Wonder what the AFL recruiters doubts around him are.

heard around the club before the end of the season that afl clubs have taken a look at caleb may, who has come on in leaps and bounds as the season went on. only just turned 20 and 208cm, he has signed on for 2 more years at westies but not confident we'll hang onto him.

Absolutely deserves a shot, reckon he'd make a really good lock down back pocket/half back at AFL level.

He is so balanced and clean at ground level.

Apparently a few clubs are interested in Lachlan Hosie.

28 years old, 187cm's, 3.8 goals a game in the SANFL, apparently has the best skills out of the AFL.

Anyone watched him at all?

Was on North's list for 18 months and played a couple of games a few years back.

Bit of a tweener at 188cm, lead and mark type of forward who doesn't get stacks of possessions. He has really good forward craft, and a nice set shot for goal. Very consistent and has kicked goals in every game he has played in the SANFL this year.

Downside is...he isn't much of a contested marking threat and offers bugger all defensive pressure. Also heard from a few around north that is attitude sucked, but that was third hand info.

Lack of defensive pressure is a key issue. Hopefully he has matured, wants to make it in the AFL and his attitude has improved.

Otherwise he won't make it.

tuned in for a bit on the weekend and even in the trenches he was really clean again. Ended up one of Norwoods better players again.

– It’s also why clubs could look to mature-age talent more this off-season and use the pre-season supplemental selection period (SSP) to trial players that’d be under the watchful eyes of coaches. State league players who’ve been on the radar this year include Richmond VFL duo Massimo Raso and Harry Scott, Frankston star Tom Blamires, East Fremantle’s Milan Murdock, Werribee key defender Ryan Eyers and Lions VFL goalkicker Fergus McFadyen.

McFadyen is still tied to our academy, so Lions have bid matching rights. I wouldn’t be surprised if we prelist McFadyen as a Cat B rookie if he doesn’t get bid on in the National Draft.

Is that a Northern Academy thing, pre listing a Cat B academy player?

Any academy players who don't get bid in the ND can be rookie pre listed cat A or B.
Eg Carlton potentially do with Gresham this year assuming he gets through and also depending on us freeing up a Cat B spot, but otherwise cat A.
Rationale: there's no bid matching process in the rookie draft

Player in question was first draft eligible last year, unless I’m mistaken, it was a suggestion of pre listing McFayden before the draft as an academy player

I'm assuming his reference to "pre-listing" was merely acknowledging that the club has to nominate them before the draft. They can't actually "prelist" them - i.e. claim them for their list before the national draft. If they are nominated and don't get bid on during the national draft, then they can be automatically added to the Category B list (if space available).

The key is "if he doesn’t get bid on in the National Draft."

So after the ND this year, if they are still available, they can be prelisted to the rookie list before the rookie draft.

Collingwood have a similar situation with Doug Kerr. As technically does every club with previous undrafted NGA.

If he gets bid on in the national draft, we just match the bid if we want him. From pick 37 and back, it doesn't cost any points to match a bid.

I don't know about other teams and their nga kids, but McFadyen and a dozen other of our over age academy kids from last year were listed in our 2025 academy, so we still retain bid matching rights.

I presume Swans don't have academy rights anymore?
