Any WA followers able to shed some light on 20 year old Archer May?

198cm, 93kg, KPF / ruck

Keen to hear some thoughts on Alex Van Wyn from the SANFL as well

200cm, 21 year old ruck

Archer was pretty unlucky not to bad taken in his draft year, kicked plenty of goals for Sandringham. Didn't have too much of an impact playing for Richmond last year though.

The step back in grade and another year of maturity is probably helping him in the WAFL I'd say.

opening up a rabbit hole, father/son?
In cases where the parentage isn't biological, the AFL will use discretion. If a kid was adopted by an AFL player before the age of 5 and obviously raised as their son, then you'd assume the AFL would have no issues whatsoever allowing them to be a F/S.

Based on Derm's relationship history and available info online, seems like the kid was probably a teenager before he even came on the scene, Derm isn't married to the kid's mother, and hasn't legally adopted him, and the "kid" is also a 20 year old adult now.

I don't think that's going to meet any criteria.

Watched May last year and really matured. A late developer and comes from out of the system. Had a breakout game just prior to the mid-season draft then broke his wrist and was out for 9 weeks. Came back for finals and still managed to kick 22 goals. Seems to have gained an extra yard over the off-season, which previously was the potential knock.

Who are the top MSD targets you guys reckon?

Just posted below on the North board....I'm sure there are plenty of others who have already been mentioned in this thread too....

While we don't have a pick, here are the potential candidates that have been list so far:

Massimo Raso - Richmond VFL small forward. Previously played for the Western Jets, kicked 3
goals today and kicked another 2 in round 1. Plenty of scope for upside.

Tom McCarthy - Richmond VFL, 24 year old, 187cm dashing half back flanker. Strong run and carry player who also kicks long. Avg 24.3 disposals, along with 4.7 marks across the first 3 matches of the season.

Kobe Ryan - premier ball winner in the SANFL, very unlucky not to have been given a chance yet. Has started off the season on fire averaging over 30 disposals and 5 tackles per game.

Ben Hopkins - North VFL listed half back. Skinny, but only 20 years old and has plenty of potential with his clean kicking, composure and decision making.

Adam Tomlinson - North listed mature age key defender who can play a variety of roles. Decent set of hands, and composed under pressure.

Jack Riding - Werribee VFL listed half/small forward, plays the game with a defensive first focus. Tackles hard and is a goo ground level player. Had a fantastic 2024 season and final series. Played 2 games and avg'd 17.5 disposals and 3 tackles per game.

Zach Banch - Similar player to Riding with good intensity. 22 years old, 173cm. Averaging 13.7 disposals and 3.3 marks per game for Werribee so far this year.

Floyd Burmeister - Overage GWV Rebels tall forward/Ruckman, who stands at 199cm and has an imposing leap. Coordinated for a big man, he can have an impact in both the air and at ground level. Kicked 3.3 in round 2 of the Coates league.

Archer May - 20 year old key forward who is 198cm and 94kg. Previously played 25 odd games for Richmond VFL and was in the Sandringham Coates League side prior to that. Has strong hands and natural forward IQ. has started the year off in the WAFL for the Subiaco senior side kicking bags of 3 and 2 goals along with averaging 16 disposals and 8 marks per game.

Charlie Orchard - Dandy Stingrays overage half back. Intercepts, and provides drive. Rangy 190cm and deceptively quick. Has started off the year averaging just under 20 disposals per game, 5 marks and over 6 rebounds.

Donovan Toohey - Classy half back who can be damaging ball in hand. Has had a stellar start to the VFL season averaging 33.3 disposals, 5.7 marks and 3.3 tackles. A mature body thats ready to go.

Billy Cootee - 22 Norward footballer. Been a consistent state league performer since 19 years old, was previously the Essendon VFL captain. Tough, versatile and classy he can play in a variety of poisitions. Averaging 18 disposals and 5 inside 50's for Norwood this year. Disposal was a stand out in the state league game over the weekend.

Cooper Keogh - 26 year old bullocking ruckman who was previously on the North VFL list. 200cm, big frame and plays a similar style to our very own Tristan Xerri. Averaging 18 disposals, and 32 hitouts per game for Coburg this year.

Love Cooper, but not sure he'll get on a list unfortunately.

Still playing for Werribee and at 28 probably won’t get the chance now
was on a podcast recently and said if he doesn't get a gig via mid season draft this year, will probably be his last year in the VFL.

A huge game from Billy Cootee should see the youngest selected state Sandgroper selected be a real shot.

31 & 1 in a resounding loss to Sturt last night is a big game from the 22 year old. Saw him a bit whilst with Essendon's VFL group, we even named him captain at 20 years of age so pedigree is there.

Have always thought there is a neat AFL player in there

Sandgroper? He isn't from WA and I don't think he's ever played in the WAFL.

That would all be fair but I reckon essendon might take crossley.

What happened to Werribee's captain. The one who trialled with the Bulldogs? No chance now?

Like the great jpod brew probably should get picked up at 28 but probably won't.

We'll see but I think we'll explore our options. Lukac from WWT is a chance, Keogh from Coburg, even Ollie Eastland from Subiaco? Would be a decent choice.

#1 Riley Mason - Collingwood VFL (UP 2 SPOTS)

moves back into the number 1 spot after a terrific outing today for the Magpies in a see sawing game at Barry Plant Park (Coburg home ground). Managed to catch about 80% of this game on the box and he was terrific. Took some wonderful contested marks, kicked truly. Was even mentioned in the broadcast he has been added to the VFL state squad for next weeks representative game against the Croweaters.

#2 Massimo Raso - Richmond VFL (UP 3 SPOTS)
The little terrier was apparently terrific for the VFL Tigers in a big upset win over the often powerful Brisbane Lions reserves. Kicked 3, had 11 touches, 2 inside and rebound 50s showed his silliness to work up and back the ground. Being 171cm is the big slight at the moment. 5 goals from 3 matches is one to watch

#3 Nick Williams - Southport (NEW TO LIST)
his 20 year old is quietly putting together a fairly consistent start to the season. Another high teens game with largely positive influence. Has been named in the bests in 2/3 games so doing the coaches direction well. A quiet MSD chance?

#4 Riley Baldi - Casey Demons (DOWN 3 SPOT)
Well beaten today with the 15 possessions in a tough loss on the road to the Cats. Never stopped trying with 3 marks and 4 tackles to go along with his 15 touches.

#5 Tom Macarthy - Richmond (NEW TO LIST)
The 24 year old has quietly gone about his business and enters as a real smoky for the MSD. Started as a skinny rangy outside player but has moved more inside and is leading the young VFL tigers well. Just over 22 touches a game, 4 I50's and 4 marks a game, he is one to keep an eye out.

Some honourable mentions for the round;

Ethan Williams from Sandringham had 29 possessions (assuming a large amount of kick ins consider the 29 kicked by Gold Coast?) and 12 rebound 50's. He sits JUST outside my 5 at the moment after a solid first three games.

Josh Hamilton (Northern Bullants) Had another 29 touches, He probably sits outside my top 5 as not named in the bests by coaches despite a big stats day.

Jackson Voss (Frankston) is a father son to St.Kilda and posted during the night that I think he has attributes to play at the highest level. 26 on Saturday night, 11 marks (largely intercepting)5 rebound 50s so one to keep an eye on for the year.

Ollie Lowe (North Melbourne VFL) had a big day with 29 possessions, 8 marks and 2.0. Had a decent past fortnight to put his name as one to watch.

Jovan Petric (Williamstown) is a 21 year old key forward who did a bit of everything this weekend. 3.0, 17 possessions, 6 marks, 5 inside 50s and 5 hitouts. One to watch if he can continue to build on a reasonable enough start to the year.

Had a couple of hiccups from guys on my radar, Luca Muratore, the mature ager returning to the VFL kicked 4 in round 1 had 1 possession. Assuming injured this round? Flynn Young was well held to 7 possessions and 1.0.

Anyone impress you on the weekend ?

Round 4 completed and we are starting to see some clarity amongst who should be in the running for the mid season draft.

#1 - Riley Baldi - Casey Demons (UP 3 SPOTS)

Another big game for Casey Demons (23disposals, 7 marks, 1.0) to solid himself as arguably the best prospect who hasn't been on a list before as a mid season option.

The 178cm inside midfielder is averaging 24 touches a game and managed to sneak forward and kick an uncustomary goal for the Demons in a tough loss to a rampaging GWS Giants.

#2 - Massimo Raso - Richmond VFL (+/-)

171cm Richmond VFL small forward Massimo Raso moves into second place after another spritely performance in a fierce contest at Frankston Park. Another 3 goals takes his season tally to 8 from 4 games putting him firmly on notice.

#3 - Riley Mason - Collingwood VFL (DOWN 1 SPOT)
Tough day to stand out with so many key forwards presenting as options. (3 other key forwards kicked multiple goals on the day). 2 goals from limited opportunities was still a day in which he contributed 2 goals taking his season tally to 11 from 3 games.

#4 - Nick Williams - Southport (+/-)

Another great game from the former Suns academy member. The 190cm half back flanker is having a consistent season for the Table topping sharks. Averaging 17.5 possessions a game and 3 rebound 50's, he should be firmly on AFL clubs radars.

#5 Tom McCarthy - Richmond VFL (+/-)

No one is really jumping into the top 5 so McCarthy holds onto this spot purely by his ok performance on Saturday night. Another 16 possessions takes his season average to 20.5 a game. At 24 and new to the system, he is firmly on AFL clubs radars.

Honourable mentions to a few entering the edge of the top 5.

Jonah Campigli (Sandringham). The 2024 VAFA rising star winner (?), kicked a huge 5 goals in a boil over win for Sandy against the top 8 chasing Footscray. Has been immense the last two weeks and as a hybrid fwd, is another entering discussions as a mid season draft possibility.

Jack Andrew (Coburg Lions) kicked 4 goals from 9 possessions but the 183cm, 21 year old took some massive contested marks from his 9 possessions to go with 4 goals. On watch after a great debut game.

Christian Algeri (Collingwood VFL), had a huge game for the VFL Magpies, 23 possessions, 7marks, 3 Inside 50s and a goal in a tight, high scoring game against the Lions VFL side. At 22, another to watch for the season.

Jovan Petric (Williamstown) is a big 197cm, 21 year old KPF from Williamstown. Kicked 4 goals to take his season tally to 8 from 4 games. A big hulking key forward. Presents well.

There is a raft of known qualities in the VFL putting up decent numbers. Joel Trudgeon (Coburg), with another 35 disposals, Joel Fitzgerald had another 26 to take his season average to 22.5 a game. Josh Green (Port Melbourne) with a further 31 in a tough loss to Essendon VFL, Flynn Gentile (Coburg) 29 possessions and 9 inside 50s.

Did anyone impress you over the weekend ?

I reckon Charlie McCartin will end up on plenty of clubs radars. Has only player the 4 VFL games for Geelong. 18 disposals and close to 10 marks per game. Very very strong aerially but also very sound in the one on ones.

Have heard that Collingwood have been looking closely at both him and Adam Tomlinson as key defensive backup after McInnes going down.
