Delisted Maverick Weller

Actually I would've said the best-case scenario would be he embraces the club, doesn't go on TV and we have a dual premiership ruckman as a longterm specialist coach for Hickey, Longer, Pierce and Grundy. On the playing side of it Weller comes out ahead (although he quite easily could've busted out), all factors considered it was certainly worth consideration the other way.
Not sure if Jolly has the personality to go on to be a great long term coach.
Seemed to be a little friction at all his clubs. And quite a lot of bitching about Collingwood after they let him go.
He seemed pretty happy to rubbish them after having a good run with them which included a 2nd flag.
Then I thought he came across as a bit of a flog on the block as well.
I dont know him personally so this is just an outsiders view but he seems to come across as a bit of a sook .
I could be wrong of course and he might be a really top bloke but im kind of glad we never signed him up.

But at the moment the most important thing is hoping that Jolly gets a clean bill of health from his recent operation.
He can all have opinions about him and joke about how his wife comes across on telly .
But they are a young family and mustve had some worrying times when he was diagnosed.
All the best for him in the future.

I did say that was a best case scenario, not the most likely scenario
True.
And somebody like Choco Williams who always came across as a sook in after game interviews when they lost. And also has a few stories floating around about how odd he can be has built a long coaching career.
So who knows.

I think this guy has been great for our team. Not great disposal, but for a young guy to be such a leader and such a positive communicator is a great result. He's a big reason why we are so competitive without the ball and I think he's one of those players who makes his teammates play tougher and get more out of themselves. Once he gets more experience, I think he'll good as an Adam Schneider-style on-field sergeant. Go Mav!

Do people think he'll ever get unleashed?

Richo said on SEN today that taggers are becoming redundant in favor of team defense. We've already seen Mav somewhat transition out of the midfield tagging role recently and he seems to be playing as a more defensive style forward. It'll be interesting to see where it goes.

I can see him long term swapping roles with Weller. Not necessarily as a tagger, but Sinclair as the mid (with his better decision making and skills) and Weller as a forward with his toughness, pressure, and goal kicking.

Weller could even do a Baker and start to play back pocket

Never thought of that, he would be awesome down there. If i visualise him playing on Ballantyne, Rioli and those likes... I honestly think he would make them go through hell. Would be brilliant.

He played back pocket at gold coast and didn't do so well..

Not too sure he's got the acceleration off the mark to defend on the lead against quick small forwards but even if he's not used as a strict tagger he is still a very serviceable selfless mid. He blocks and creates space for others around the contest, applies a heap of tackling pressure and isn't afraid to throw his body around. Add some more pace to our midfield and a rotation of him, Armo, Dunstan and Ross should be able to extract it out to players on the run pretty effectively. I think we're using him well by throwing him forward when the other aforementioned players are in the clinches as he seems to understand his role well, and as much as some hate the position, that puts him in good stead to be a good defensive forward that opens up space for others to lead into.

This.

He's a natural mid, yet GC only played him as a small defender and it didn't work at all. Funnily enough he got unleashed as a mid in his last game for the club (when they'd already told him he was gone) and he had 27 touches. Oh well their loss, our gain

I'll be staggered if he doesn't go close in B&F at the end of this year. He'll definitely win some kind of leadership award I'd have thought. So happy for him to get rewards for all his hard work. Hope he can clean up his disposal and become one of our elites.

really happy (and a little surprised) with what he has brought to our club.
I remember when he first came down to train with us. I thought to myself " meh , a little on the short side" and id heard a lot of stories about him being a big headed tosser with attitude probs.
Talk about turn your career around.
His attitude and his work ethic are top notch.
Must go like the clappers in the gym cos hes a wrecking ball.
Wasted his first crack at an AFL club but
we gave him a 2nd chance at AFL and he isnt letting us down.
Great draft pick up for us.

He was an absolute jet yesterday, 3 solid goals, 20 touches and 5 tackles. He's our midfield grunt.
