He has lifted from last year. As you would expect. Would like him to run and carry a bit more with ball in hand as he has the pace but rarely uses it offensively. Had a terrible first qtr but was brilliant in the last.

Not just that a few thought he had no talentI think some had a bit of a knock on his kicking? Lol.
His late involvements were vitally important, for sure. Like you, though, what really stood out for me was that even when his first attempt to get involved didn't quite result in us winning it cleanly, he was back in there competing again for the ball right away. Actually won some balls with his second and third efforts, which is a brilliant quality to have in a young player. After the clark and constable toast threads im not going too early but i love this kids workrate. He makes blues but he just never stops working..and that i really rate.

The knock on the kicking of the bloke who next put it on the boot in this passage is generally enormous here as well.

It's a good call. I think the really exciting thing with Holmes is that I wouldn't rule him out blossoming into a really good inside player as well. Has all the tools, I think, and just needs to fill out and build experience.Do people see Max as a future mid?
I see him as an Isaac Smith replacement - he actually reminds me of a young Smith a lot.
Yep more an inside player. But an inside player with pace.I think he’s more inside than Smith. I think he’s got what my dad’s generation call “a bit of mongrel”.![]()
There was one in the preseason game where he kicked to Dangerfield in the goalsquare, got it over all the defenders - wasn't expecting him to have developed that much penetration in his kicks already.

What? Daicos is averaging 25 touches a game in his 1st season while Holmes is averaging 16 touches a game in his 2nd seasonThis isn't meant as a criticism of Nick Daicos who's a serious talent but if he'd dragged his team over the line with a huge last quarter like Holmes did we'd never hear the end of it. Holmes is 5 months older, probably played less competitive footy despite a few more AFL games and is every bit as talented yet he's barely been mentioned in the wash up. Thankfully we don't have the Collingwood issue of our kids being forever talked up and getting big heads.
Contested mid first and foremost.Do people see Max as a future mid?

Fogarty yes, but the other two were around decade agoIt's a good call. I think the really exciting thing with Holmes is that I wouldn't rule him out blossoming into a really good inside player as well. Has all the tools, I think, and just needs to fill out and build experience.
You really do just shake your head when you consider we took players like Lang, Smedts, Fogarty either earlier or around the same pick as Max in recent drafts. Already easily looks a better player than all three.
I think you meant to target the Collingwood fan base with this target than Daicos who seems to be an unbelievable talentThis isn't meant as a criticism of Nick Daicos who's a serious talent but if he'd dragged his team over the line with a huge last quarter like Holmes did we'd never hear the end of it. And Holmes' 20 touch game last night was miles more influential than Daicos' 26 possession game. There are more important things in this game than just disposals especially when one is playing much more time in midfield than the other. What?
