Holmes kicks like James Kelly but he’s not as inside. I think he’s more like a Travis Boak or Bontempelli that plays inside/outside. I do see his field kicking and running being a big feature of his in years to come.

At 205cm and with the athleticism Dekoning has you’ve got to think Dekoning is a ruckmen in waiting. It will do his development the world of good playing as a defender and pinch hitting up forward. Needs another 10kg to hold his own in the ruck though.
I actually want to see Neale come into the team too.

Best game for me so far. He hunted and thrived in the moment. Enormously good sign for a young player.
As been mentioned before, a great size for a modern midfielder. Big strong legs and blistering speed. Starting to throw opponents around with his tackles so a couple more preseasons and he could be one of the best wingers in the competition.

Good summation, but will be a damaging midfielder imho, has all the tools, Dangerfield like but has improved his kicking as well over last 12 months which was a flaw

I see what you mean. I like his aggression in close. Definitely has all the tools to become an elite inside midfielder. His disposal still needs work but it was very good last night.
Melbourne is the benchmark and he looked like he wanted the moment and that's always the first thing you look at with new players emerging on the scene.

Going to be a terrific player. Aside from that one clanger out of defence, his disposal by foot has improved and is very good. Great size, very good overhead, terrific pace, good decision maker. Absolute lock.
Liked his overhead marking last night. I hadnt seen that aspect of his game before.

While he looks suited to playing as an outside midfielder, his ability to scrap away in a contest and lay a tackle has surprised me the most.

Definitely his best game for the Club last night. His scope for improvement and development is huge. Only his second year in the AFL and barely played in his underage years. I think he has a really solid balance of inside and outside; he can legit make a big impact as both. Geelong really value versatility through the middle and he exemplifies that as a young player.

Holmes was tasked with the job on Langdon in first half. His positioning between the ball and Langdon was spot on for a kid. And he is as quick.

Some of the outside runners in other sides (looking at Freo) are in for a rude shock next time Max lines up.

Some very deft touches in close too in that lot too. Could be a beauty with a reasonably clear run at it from here.

Don't worry about talent you have no idea, you said last year he would not make it, now you no what to look for in talent lol

I may have been slightly exaggerating when I posted no Holmes no Geelong when he got injuried in the freo game, however i do think it made a huge difference and was no co incidence that freo worked back into the game after that point

Liked how he wasn't backward in coming forward in laying body contact on Langdon, Langdon didn't really like it and went into his shell a bit, Max has improved immensely this season.

Seriously impressive last night, big game and for our youngest to show such a level head especially early speaks volumes about him and why the club were so keen to get him back in. When you realise how little footy he has played the last few years as well it is quite remarkable and exciting for what he could become

Max had a lot of James Kelly about him last night.

It's way more than just the number. The way he moves, the commitment to do the hard running without the ball, the robust tackling, and the ability to shrug his way out of traffic all look so much like Pops in his prime.

To me, though, his ceiling as a player looks even higher than what James could offer (who was a gem for us, mind you). The burst of speed, the natural athleticism, and the likelihood that his body fills out really well all suggest he could be a very special player in years to come. Like magic_johnson!, I have us winning the Freo game if he'd stayed on the park. And I thus entirely understand why he's been rocketed back into the seniors as soon as he was up and going again.

Like those in the know down at the club, I'm enjoying every moment of what Max brings and am confident that there is a very good story in the making here.
