Good summation, but will be a damaging midfielder imho, has all the tools, Dangerfield like but has improved his kicking as well over last 12 months which was a flaw
In his last interview he said he was so nervous last year his legs felt like jelly, hence the bad kicking. He is oozing confidence now. Actually said he was a not an endurance athlete, and more of burst player. 400m is a sprint after all, the most torturous if them all

The more he plays the less like James Kelly he is.

Literally not big enough to fill his boots
That's certainly true!

At no point have I or others on here (or Jobe) said that he's a clone of Jim Kelly. Obviously his number and hair are reminders. But there's something about the way he moves and kicks, and his hardness at the ball and man, that are similar for me.

He's much quicker and a different player in other ways - as every player is different from every other.

Yeah, what would Jobe know? He only played with him.

All good, mate. It’s all just opinions. It was just good to hear someone who played with him confirm what I’d seen.
Hey I wasn’t having a go.

Many have observed the physical resemblance and the number 9 too.

I’m just saying the more we see of him the more he is showing his own attributes and I don’t think he shares many with Kelly.

The one and only place Kelly and Holmes could plausibly be compared is the AFL Look-Alikes thread.

Agree - he's kicking with so much more authority this season. He's had a couple of rippers on the burst where he's found Jezza and Hawk from 45+ metres away. The goal v Saints was something he would have completely stuffed last season.
He looks like he can play inside and out which is very rare - can only get better as he gains strength , endurance and experience.
Inspired selection and well worth the shuffling of picks to get him.
I'm really struggling to pick a favourite between Holmes , SDK , Stengle , Cameron and Close this season

Very stiff to miss the 40 squad for 22under22. SDK our only pick.
He missed 7 games in the middle of the season. If he plays those, he's in. And he'll stroll into the side next year. And the year after that as well.

He is that young and that good.

I was a massive fan of his from the outset. But was also thoroughly infuriated by how poor his goalkicking was throughout last season. So to see him turn it around so markedly this year (capped by a sensational finish from distance against the Saints) is simply sensational.

When you match a strong level of confidence in his game with the sizeable skillset he clearly possesses, it's time to seriously look out.

It was as simple as nerves you could see it, that's why i laughed was nothing to worry about

Amazing Seven keep employing him!
Literally is only because of his dad, as far as commentators go, Jobe is almost as clueless as they get

Fwiw the Kelly comparisons are being focused on far too much here, it's obviously only because the number the dark shaggy hair and the shape and dimensions of his body to the eye... Nothing playing wise.

Onto the actual important bit, the really exciting bit is just how little footy he has played in the last few years, his ceiling is absolutely enormous and each week you can see his confidence and belief grow... Last week at least twice I saw he looked at who was around him, knew he had them for speed and just backed himself to run away from them... Loved it.

It absolutely looked like he was playing in a game in the backyard. Looks up, sees there's nobody who can match him, and just takes off without anyone laying a hand on him. He has a seriously scary ability to just burn people from a standing start. And it's far from the only compelling aspect to how he plays his footy.

I would want that?

It's what we think?

If whales were telepathic?

I don't know half these acronyms

Be assured I would know far less of them from you. This is one of the only ones I 'know'. And certainly one of the very few I ever bother to use.

Twice I've seen him intercept a kickin, outmark the defender, and then slot the goal. His timing and speed over ~50m are uncanny. Just knowing he's lurking around makes defenders think twice about cute little kicks across goal, which is handy for us because it inhibits their ability to switch the play.
