He is a beauty isn't he ? (a rhetorical question)

This guy was crucified early by the umpires, nearly blew his stack - but knuckled down to be one of the best on ground again. Very impressive.

Champion! One of our best tonight. Read one online newspaper saying him and Fev broke even, total BS he thrashed the guy! Fev's stats probably looked better thanks to that goal from that disgraceful free kick.

Massively underrated by opposition supporters.

Not only is he such a good spoiler of the ball as RE mentioned but he has terrific closing speed.

And what about his versatility?

Over the course of his career he has gone from playing on a monster key forward like Tredrea or Neitz one week to Phil Matera the next week.

Legend. :thumbsu:

Lucky them & the media don't count for anything :) He's almost like a secret weapon!

I love Maxy, he is awesome & had a monster game last night. I also hope he stays on the park!

Yeh his versatility is awesome...goes to the Fevs and the Halls and also goes to Nathan G. Brown and Brad Johnson.

Can play on just about anyone.

I love it how the media thinks our defence is our weakness, when in my opinion its our strength.

For the last few years respected footbal personalities have stated that Max is too old and has too many injuries but forget how good he is when hes on the park. Fevola is one of the premier forwards in the game and hudghton towels him up every time they play on each other. Even though hes had injuries and is probably in his last year or two, his closing speed is sensational and IMO he is one of the best spoilers in the game. He has adapted to modern rules better than alot of defenders and is St.Kilda through and through. The emotion he shows and the desperation he has to win the contest, to win the game, is rivalled only by Robert Harvey and Nick Riewoldt. Max Hudghton is a St.Kilda champion and has been through it all, and he's still got it based on that performance against fevola where he stuck to him like a cheap suit. He's tougher than a $2 steak!

that always astounds me, that after so many years of being a top defender, the media/opposition still underrate him.
I'm pretty sure the only player to ever kick a bag on him was Neitz (once he kicked 8, ??).
Oh well, keep underrating him ... :D:thumbsu:

I can't believe the recovery he's had. Should get even better.

I think he is adapting to the rules fairly well - get body contact, make sure you're eyes are on the ball, and arm outstretched towards the pill. But someone needs to have a yak about losing his nana if they pay dodgy free kicks. Ray Ray and Vozzo will give 50s (particularly early in the year).

i know, I loved the passion, but it'll end up costing us more if he doesn't curb it .. (& some of those were really dodgy!!)

That was the game right after Neale Daniher had had a media whine about the number of free kicks Neitz didn't get. Max only had to look at Neitz the wrong way that game and the umpires paid him a free.

Just shows that the umpires are completely off the rails when it comes to the complaints. After Daniher complained they should have reviewed the bad decisions and "educated" the ump that made thme, not go easy on Neitz the following week.

IMO Max is one of the cleanest defenders, usually competing with speed and a well placed punch ( the ball, not the forward) rather than resorting to grappling with the player or trying to interfere with the mark.

As stated, well suited to the modern game.

That's right, it was like an application for a golden ticket wasn't it.

Nice post, although you almost lost me at "respected football personalities" - is there more than one? ;)

There are exceptions, but it's almost one of those ox/moron thingo magiggys (intended) :o

Only had goals kicked against him when the umpires paid 2 ordinary decisions

The best spoiler from behind in the game IMO.

Agree. I was worried if he lost his closing speed it would be curtains for him, but he made about 3-4 spoils against Hall which confirmed he was as good as ever. He'll get Johnson and will do a great job.

Love ya Maxy.

I Have just heard news that Max has damaged his hammy again and has decided to retire. If true this is terrible news for Max, who was looking great on the field and also to StKilda's chances for premiership.

Sorry everyone , I forgot what day this is and was sucked in completely.
Now I feel much better.

Haha, shiit you had me goin for a second, then I'm like nahhhh, already read 3 of em so far lol. But as soon as I saw a thread named Max Hudghon I was like 'nooooo dont let it be bad news!'

Bourkey, SaintSeptember wasn't telling the "joke", he was faithfully relaying important news that he'd heard that turned out to be somebody else's bad joke.

Still, it shows the scariest practical jokes are the ones that are the most credible...

Crikey...
