Good to be home to some sense of normality. Interesting 2 weeks in the US for me.

Los Angeles as a town stinks, wouldn't go out after dark in 75% of the place.

Bush & Gore debates were on at the time I was there, you reckon Johnny Howard is dull? You ain't seen these two guys. Picked up a good sticker on my travels though "Women prefer GORE, Men prefer BUSH". Think about it.

WWF Smackdown at the Staples Centre in LA was AWESOME. The atmosphere is something to behold, can't explain it, something like the last minute of a close big AFL game and a rock concert. Had my BigFooty.com sign confiscated at the enterance - fascist door bitch.

NHL is an amazing game - never seen a hockey game before but these guys are nuts, all built like brick shithouses and just try to beat the crap out of each other. Organised mayhem. Couldn't see the ball (puck) for the life of me, but the scoreboard at the end of the night said it was a 4-4 draw. Expensive food and little atmosphere.

After a few days of trying to justify my salary in LA 'networking' with Microsoft types was off to Colorado for a week R&R. Visted my old HS in Boulder which I spent a year as a transfer student 10 years back, hadn't changed a bit, some of the old teachers still there. Saw a college football game there too - Colorado vs. Texas. Colorado Buffalos suck this year, were national champs when I was they now they can't win a game. The visiting Texas band got cans, stones and all sorts of shit thrown at them at half time, not sure why looking back at it now but seemed interesting at the time. Was told that beer has been banned at the Folsom stadium for a few years and the natives get restless when sober. Average game, saw better in my time, Buffs lost again. Texas is a bit like Collingwood, all media hype for little result. Picked every year to win the lot but fall in a heap and haven't won a championship in 30/40 years.

Next day was off to Mile High Stadium in Denver, had a tour of the new Mile High Stadium (soon to be named after a major corporation stadium as is every other stadium in the US) which is being built next door, can't understand in a city which is freezing cold and snows all winter why a new $500 million stadium doesn't have a roof? Bizarre. The Denver Broncos ran up a cricket score against the hapless Cleveland Browns, Broncos are now really a bunch of no names, Elway has retired, Davis is injury rooted, fans still pretty agitated for most of the game for whatever reason. Can't recommend NFL in the flesh, if you have a choice between NFL & College go to a college game, better all-round package. NFL is too 'fake'.

Didn't do a hell of a lot more in while in Colrado - caught up with a few old school buddies, one guy who I converted to Aussie Rules and he now plays for the Denver Bulldogs of all things. Who btw the week I was in Denver seeing College & NFL played in Los Angeles and won the 'US National Championship' by playing 6 games in 2 days. Beating the San Diego Lions 22-20 in the Grand Final. So I ended up getting pissed with the team in the week long celebrations, good bunch of guys. Found out that the Bulldogs are sponsored by the Western Bulldogs in fact. I'm sure they'd be interested to know where their sponsorship money goes - Miller, Bud, Jack Daniels etc, etc, etc. When I left last Friday they were still going strong.

Damn I'm rambling, must be channeling Dan's aura.

Max,

The reason the broncos are building an openair stadium is that it gives the team an advantage when playing in cold weather, particularly in the playoffs.
