He's been in the system for 4 years man, he hasn't had a good run at all. Obviously needs to do a lot of work and some luck going his way for once would be a great help, but I find it strange how quick people are to write off key forwards, particularly ones taken with a high pick. He's 22 and looks as good as ever, he needs time. Same as Tom Boyd, the criticism around him is just so far over the top it's not funny.
He is perhaps one, maybe two concussions from never being allowed to play again. He averages a goal a game - and his 2018 was WORSE than that, at 0.9 goals a game, despite him playing more games than he ever has (13).

Look, he MAY turn it all around. Sure. But the fact is, picking Max King says something. There are, generally speaking, 2 KPF spots in an AFL team - MAYBE 3, in extreme circumstances, but most would agree that's top-heavy.

Bruce is one (who has kicked 50 goals in a year before). Now, having picked Max King, that says we are not completely convinced about our current options as to that second tall.

Even factoring out King, Paddy is already competing for the second-tall spot with Battle (who looks a pearler), as well as Marshall (who adds the versatility of being able to go in the ruck). Now, Paddy has the advantage of being a #1 pick rather than those two, but that feather-in-his-cap is getting pretty stale, especially when Battle has a higher average goals, and has already kicked 3 goals himself in significantly less time.

So, if you're saying there's a place for Paddy, you're left either suggesting we're going to get rid of Bruce (which given earlier success, and the fact we didn't trade him a month ago, seems unlikely) and give Paddy his spot; that we just picked a ripper of a tall for no good reason; or that we're going to play all three... oh, and with Membrey... oh, and with Battle (because we all want him getting games).

Or you have to go all stupid-crazy like SEN and suggest we're going to get desperate and put Paddy in the backline.

Face it. Paddy's done. The question is now simply whether he goes to the Cattery or the knackery (metaphorically speaking).

Look, I don't want to rain on the Max King parade by making this entire thread about Paddy. It was just an observation.

  • Dawson Simpson. 210cm (6 ft 10 in)
  • Jarrod Witts. 209cm (6 ft 10 in)
  • Max Gawn. 208cm (6 ft 9 in)
  • Rory Lobb. 207cm (6 ft 9 in)
  • Braydon Preuss. 206cm (6 ft 9 in)
  • Zac Smith. 206cm (6 ft 9 in)
  • Timothy English. 205cm (6 ft 8 in)
  • Sam Naismith. 205cm (6 ft 8 in)
This just ruined the mood

Remember when 200cm was tall for a ruckman...

Correct.

Battle will replace Paddy... Who is very talented but not suited to the modern game due to his lack of defensive pressure.
Battle goes pretty ok defensively for someone who lacks defensive pressure

Tell that to Tom Boyd. It's tough when you find out your opponent can move you off your line for the first time.

Hope I'm wrong and Max becomes the super star none of the other highly touted key forwards in recent years have!
Pretty sure Daniher and Hogan have gone OK.

Imagine being drafted by the Gold Coast. It's like finally making it to the service station bathroom and you burst in only to discover the toilet out of Trainspotting.
Haha, that is gold, I literally laughed out loud at that! :D

The GOAT is dead.

Long live the GOAT.

I can see it now...

Max: just had a club function and I got to rub shoulders with all our heroes like Roo, Lenny, Harvey, Mine, G train...

Ben: Yeah me too. Bumped into Karmichael Hunt while taking a piss..

Bit different Max and Boyd. Boyd had a lot of issues off the field, which is very unfortunate. Max is very switched on and is hoping to get a 90+ ATAR to study commerce at Melbourne University. Unbelievable talent

couldnt agree more. absolute bust of a pick. the last time pick 1 failed this bad would have to have been the early years of the draft.

when this is eventually done, people will look back on this shaking their head. how we couldnt even get a GOP player with the best pick in a draft.
