Who cares if he is a better utility though?

The question is if he's a better footballer. I doubt anyone would be taking Balta over King

Depends on what the team wants. If they need a young backman who can 2nd ruck and can also be a 3rd KPF for emergencies, they’d be picking Balta. If they need just a KPF they’d pick King.

How exactly do you judge “Better Footballer” if they play different positions? To me being more versatile makes Balta more valuable, but it’s fine if you think otherwise.

They are both playing the same position this year and King is clearly better

You are just embarrassing yourself

Max “The Junk Time” King played alright today against GWS pfff hahah 1.7 is so bad I don’t think I’ve ever seen a forward kick that in my life. Saints won as well against a bottom 6 side [emoji23]

Didn't he have another shot in play that missed all together?

I suppose if you have a bad night and still get 9 shots at goal, the glass isn't totally empty.

I just said as a forward King is better. Balta has only played 4 games as a forward, relax.

Everyone would choose King.
Not even close.

We’ll see in a few years. Balta is likely to have the last laugh though he’s already won a premiership. I can only see King winning one if he moves from the Saints to a better club.

If he fixes his goal kicking he’ll be Rewoldt and Hawkins level. He probably won’t be able to fix it enough though. But who knows.

Whatever man I don’t care what you think, if I’m wrong I’ll eat my words. Good luck for the rest of the season. I’m done with this thread its a boring King wankfest, can’t criticise the messiah at all without being eaten by a pack of wolves.

You can criticise King mate that's fine - but you didn't that time. You just did the yawnfest premiership comparison to give yourself a pat on the back and walk away. That's not a fair criticism of King and his ability as a player.

If they wanted a young backman who could do those things they would still choose King and just play him there instead...

King > Balta.

Saints > Tigs

Really rate King.

You can't stop those sorts of players at that size who take the ball at it's highest point, it's such a weapon. You see it with these new era talented KPFs who are 200cm+

His poor kicking might always come back to bite him at times, like Richo for example, but I don't think it'll stop him becoming a long term star forward.

Would be surprised if he didn't kick at least 50+ for the next 8-10 years.

What's stopping Max from personally investing in a goal kicking coach? He's got everything else nailed down, why not spend a bit of cash to help yourself?

If your life was on the line you wouldn't pick Max to kick it. Will he be able to come up clutch in a final? Is it purely a mental issue? No doubt he'll be a star but will he be a Superstar?

Seemed to have really improved his goal kicking up until last week

From round 12 last year up until round 5 this year he had kicked 41 goals and 19 points

His a lot better shot for goal then Riewoldt was already ! and if you remember Hawkins was a very inconsistent player until his mid twenties . No one is saying balata is not a good player he obviously is but the arguments your trying to make against king are ridiculous and absolute laughable mate

Lloydy who kicked 926 Goals with only 424 behinds (68%) offered to be Max King's goalkicking coach. Saints seemed offended and didn't take him up on the offer.

King is going at 77 goals with 67 behinds, barely better than 50% - so baffling that they wouldn't take Matthew up on his offer. However, Jarryd Roughead is down at the Saints and he had a pretty good strike rate infront of the sticks too, somewhere around 60% - so you'd imagine he is giving Max all the advice he can.

See how he goes in the next five weeks and re-assess. I don't think he has a technique issue like Aaron Naughton so it's much easier fixed. Naughton may very well go the way of Casboult, King certainly will not.

I think Max's kicking is now just a mental thing + getting in repetitions at training to bed down his new technique routine and muscle memory.

In the games he is kicking well the ball comes off the boot absolutely magnificently and flies straight as an arrow and up to 65m when he wants it to.

Funnily enough that was around the time King turned his goal kicking around

As I said, after the mid point of last year to before last week he had kicked 41 goals and 19 points (Similar to Lloyds overall strike rate)

I'm not going too carried away about one match after 3/4's of a season kicking straight

I think the club had a point that they didn't want too many people telling him different things and were happy to back our coaching staff.

I think Roughead has been working closely with him

Yes, as I touched on I don't think it's worth discussing, I said we should see how he goes in the next five weeks and re-assess. I also acknowledged that Roughead is probably advising him.

I'm not sure what your issue with my post is, unless you took from it that I agree with Kane, which I don't. I think the whole conjecture about Max King's kicking accuracy is highly exaggerated and the implicit human recency bias has impacted this discussion. Had Max not had a shocker infront of goal (statistically) then people wouldn't be talking about it.

Had anyone watched the game, they'd realise only 3, maybe 4 were shots you'd expect McKay, Curnow, Hawkins, Cameron, Daniher, King to convert. His statistics from that game are not a true reflection of him as a player.
