We’ll see in a few years. Balta is likely to have the last laugh though he’s already won a premiership. I can only see King winning one if he moves from the Saints to a better club.

There it is. All that analysis wrapped up in a bitter little bias. Worthless.

Depends on what the team wants. If they need a young backman who can 2nd ruck and can also be a 3rd KPF for emergencies, they’d be picking Balta. If they need just a KPF they’d pick King.

How exactly do you judge “Better Footballer” if they play different positions? To me being more versatile makes Balta more valuable, but it’s fine if you think otherwise.

I’m not picking a fight with you mate but versatility counts for shit if you aren’t elite.

If someone says ‘you can have this guy who covers 3 distinct different roles at a competent but unremarkable level’ or someone else who can play just 1 role but can be top 2-3 in the league at it?

You take the second guy every time.

Cats fans will tell you all about Mark Blicavs.

I personally DO like the fact that he can play a number of roles at least at a moderate level but if we had to trade one of he or Jeremy Cameron/Tom Stewart/Tom
Hawkins it’s always going to be Blicavs that we choose.

Max King is an absolute jet and if he sorts his kicking out, which he will as he gets older, he will win the Saints half a dozen games a year off his own boot.

Yes, as I touched on I don't think it's worth discussing, I said we should see how he goes in the next five weeks and re-assess. I also acknowledged that Roughead is probably advising him.

I'm not sure what your issue with my post is, unless you took from it that I agree with Kane, which I don't. I think the whole conjecture about Max King's kicking accuracy is highly exaggerated and the implicit human recency bias has impacted this discussion. Had Max not had a shocker infront of goal (statistically) then people wouldn't be talking about it.

Had anyone watched the game, they'd realise only 3, maybe 4 were shots you'd expect McKay, Curnow, Hawkins, Cameron, Daniher, King to convert. His statistics from that game are not a true reflection of him as a player.
I never said i had an issue with your post?

Thought I was just adding to the conversation, no need to get touchy

My point was around what hot take said and how things have turned around despite the club knocking back an offer from Lloyd

Not getting touchy - I guess both of our posts aren't translating as well as they would in a conversation at a pub over a pint and parma! Apologies mate.

Lloydy who kicked 926 Goals with only 424 behinds (68%) offered to be Max King's goalkicking coach. Saints seemed offended and didn't take him up on the offer.

King is going at 77 goals with 67 behinds, barely better than 50% - so baffling that they wouldn't take Matthew up on his offer. However, Jarryd Roughead is down at the Saints and he had a pretty good strike rate infront of the sticks too, somewhere around 60% - so you'd imagine he is giving Max all the advice he can.

See how he goes in the next five weeks and re-assess. I don't think he has a technique issue like Aaron Naughton so it's much easier fixed. Naughton may very well go the way of Casboult, King certainly will not.
The whole Lloyd thing was completely blown out of proportion. The reasoning at the time was the club thought Max needed less voices advising him on his goal kicking issues, not more. Roughhead also believed it was more of a mental issue than a technique issue. From the mid-way point of the season (rd13-22), Max then kicked 24.8 and 4 of those behinds came in games when he spent significant time off the field with a groin issue where he could barely move.

I also think Lloyd spending two weeks talking about the 'snub' on multiple media platforms and adding more to the story every time helped justify the clubs decision to not get him involved. All he was doing was heaping more pressure onto Max's shoulders about goal kicking which was not helping the situation.

Max Max Max.

Having a career season and the Tigers pluck yet another 19yo from nowhere who is now averaging more goals per game for the season.

It must be demoralising this for Max “has arrived” King, the “elite” Full Forward. 😂

What, did someone squeeze out the great elite Balta from the forward line?

Don’t worry about the modern version of Jim “Ghost” Jess.

Noah Balta"geist” will be fine.

Be thankful we don’t start a thread about the 19yo who is one of our two players averaging more goals per game than Maxy King in 2022. 😁😎😎😎

You know that games against WCE at present are a free hit and don't really count for much.....

This thread has gone a bit quiet. How’s King travelling? I’m assuming he carved up port last round yeah? They are 13th after all.

He kicked 2 goals which was more than any other key forward from Port, Georgiades, Finlayson and Marshall kicked just 1 goal between them.

No key forwards were going to carve up opposition teams in those conditions where the ball was like a cake of soap and difficult to mark overhead.

Yeah true, no other forward in the history of the game could’ve got 2 goals in those conditions. Maybe only Carey because he is almost at a similar level to Max.
