He probably will have a quiet one next week. In fact, he might well have a couple of quiet ones.

Key forwards usually take a while- Jonathon Brown didn't kick 40 goals in a season until his 8th season. 8 years! Tom Hawkins did it in his 6th.

But the potential I've always seen in King, and his efforts from the back half of 2021 and first 3 rounds of 2022, make me more excited as a Saints fan than I have been about anybody, since perhaps the former #12

Honestly it's injuries that worry me- both King brothers have done an ACL and Max has had a serious ankle too, and they're only 21. That's a bit concerning. At 200cm, injuries seem inherently more likely to me too.

Anyway, I'm not getting ahead of myself but just very excited by what he's showing

So according to your opening post, he has arrived and is now consistently unleashing the potential many people have been raving about for years….

But in this post you predict he will probably have a quiet match this week and in fact he could have a couple of quiet ones….

PJays Could you please go back and amend your opening post to include your expert opinion that Max King will now have some quiet matches after arriving and finding consistency…so that unsuspecting people don’t get confused into believing you think he has actually arrived and found consistency. 😁😂😂

The guy plays one quarter and 5 minutes of footy in 2 weeks and is now Mr Consistent. 🧐

FMD PJays. Deplorable thread even by your pitiable standards. 😍

FFS.

Let him just play a consistent year and then we can start making threads on him.

He’ll play a bad game and this thread will get bumped.

haha yes, exactly trolls are queuing up right now to be the first to bump this thread when he has a quiet game.

He’s kicked 33 goals from his last 12 games, despite getting injured in two of them- including one when he was just as dominant as he was in the last quarter yesterday, but from the first bounce, before getting injured before quarter time- so if he’s kicking that many when he’s inconsistent, I look forward very much to seeing what he does when he is consistent!

aha yes i knew we had to do this..

"We need to talk about Max King" Jake

because the billboard on the Nepean highway train bridge at Brighton said we have to.
Has Gresh suited up in the red white and black again yet?

So you're saying put 10 grand on him for the Coleman?
I put $5 myself.... more out of hope than expectation, but each to their own

He's kicked a goal in 13 straight games, with multiple goals in 10 of those 13, including bags of 6, and 4 (3 times). So he's obviously a good chance

But whether $8 represents value odds, I'll leave to those with more nous on the respective spearheads he's competing against

I hate St Kilda almost as much as I hate Essendon (I'm sure the feeling is mutual), but this bloke makes me want to watch their matches.

Aye. But he is very keen to get out

He's no Noah Balta...

Oh lordy.

I feel you.

This is better than the guy who started one about Noah Balta

insult the talent scout visionary that is blaisee

Well King has 9 in 3 games. That's 3 per game

Last year he kicked 24 in his last 9 games (average 2.7 per game)

If he plays say, 21 games and kicks 3 per game that gives him 63 goals.

60 or 65 goals in a season is definitely within King's capabilities based on his 33 in his last 12 games

Recent winners
- McKay with 58 last year

- Jack Riewoldt 65 in 2018 and same amount in 2012

- Jeremy Cameron 67 in 2019 and Buddy same in 2014

Like I said, I put $5 only out of hope and for a bit of fun

But any rational analysis would give him a chance

As for the trolls finding this thread when King has a bad game, yes perhaps they will, especially if it's very soon!

But if King has a run of poor form, and only ends up with 35 goals for the year so what, it won't mean too much

Injuries worry me much more than that

Like I said earlier, Hawkins didn't become a consistent, big goal kicker until year 6, J Brown until year 8

The fact that King has put the last 2 weeks together is great (and the last 12), but we won't ultimately know how good he's likely to get for another few years, since history suggests very few key position players peak before then, and that's perfectly fine

My prediction is if King stays healthy he'll ultimately become a superstar and eventually a multiple time All Australian, but whether that happens in 2022, 2023, 2024 or even 2025 I'm not making any confident prediction on

Carry on

How good will this guy get?

I think it's safe to say the new King of St Kilda has arrived.

The potential many people have been raving about for years has finally been unleashed more consistently, across the back half of 2021 and the opening rounds of 2022.

From where I'm sitting, injuries have always been the only thing that could stop this guy becoming an elite key forward and one of the very best players in the competition. But now, possibly earlier than even I expected, he's finally starting to prove it regularly.

Here's a question.

What do the following players have in common?

N Riewoldt
B Fevola
J Brown
M Pavlich
W Tredrea
J Roughhead
J Riewoldt
T Hawkins
J Kennedy
T Lynch
J Gunston
B Brown
J Darling

Apart from being the crème de la crème of key forwards over the past 20 years?

Answer:

1. They all averaged less contested marks per game over their careers than Max King is averaging so far in his career (2.12 per game)

2. None of them kicked at least 4 goals in 2 consecutive weeks within their first 41 games, ie: What Max King just achieved

Side note- Barry Hall and Buddy Franklin would've been on this list except they kicked 4+ in games 39 and 40, one game ahead of King who did it in games 40 and 41. Jeremy Cameron did it in games 31 and 32. Taylor Walker matched King with 4 in games 40 and 41.

Key forwards usually take 4-6 years to start consistently playing great footy. This is King's 4th season (although he missed most of 2019 rookie year with an ankle injury, only playing 5 VFL games). Harry McKay is a good example of this- 58 goals last year in his 6th season, previous best was 26.

The frustrating thing for me as a St Kilda fan, is that I can see King's trajectory unfolding before my eyes, but I don't see any other under 25's at St Kilda who look likely to become elite. So I'm not sure King will have the teammates around him to make the most of his immense abilities. (Although optimistically Clark, Gresham, Coffield and Higgins have shown flashes of brilliance. You never know).

Still this thread is about Max King not the Saints.

How good will King eventually become?

And how will he go this year? Challenge for the Coleman?

Just so you know he got given a bath by a 32 year old Tarrant for 3Qtrs and only got going once grimes went down. Our VFL defence was already cooked we didn’t even have our best defenders in, he should’ve kicked way more especially against a side that finished 12th last year. He will never reach the heights of these other players playing at the saints sorry.

This post seems a little bitter

It goes without saying Max King is a huge prospect, and already a good player.

Thus, the thread is ludicrous and deserves to be lampooned. Especially as it was started by arch Saints sychophant and history re-writer PJays 😁
