Did you love his mark over 172cm Liam Baker better or the one in front of 18yo 3rd gamer Josh Gibcus? Or the one that he dropped and it fell in between his legs by complete miracle?

Or did you like his first 3/4s better when Tarrant and Grimes schooled him?

He is tracking really well but ffs, people getting way too excited about his last 1/4 yesterday. Start threads about him when he consistently does well against quality well stocked defences in big games.
His 22 bro no where near fully physically developed of course he will still struggle against the elite experienced defenders but I think it’s ok to be getting a little bit excited don’t you? What’s he going to be doing in 2-3 seasons

Way too early for this sort of stuff. Agree with others....this just puts a giant mozz on him just when he is developing nicely.

Most would agree he would be one of the most desirable players for any club in the land. Prob top three. Can’t think of the others off the top of my head. Maybe Walsh.

Is there any other player that would generate a contract offer as large as this bloke? I think he would receive the largest offers. One for the managers to consider.

He and his twin brother have been projected as stars all the way, and Max has shown fairly predictable development. I have watched most of their games in full. I haven’t seen anything to get excited about now that I didn’t fully expect to see. Were you not excited about Max King before now?

We can see that barring further accidents in your "2-3 seasons" both of the twins will be exceptional players. At a certain point Max will find himself as a 27yo playing on some developing key backs and may tear them apart and people will be going nuts over it. I will be waiting to see what he does against the best opponents in the biggest games before I get too excited. When that gun is pointed at their heads, some exceptional players are Dustin Martins, and others are Patrick Dangerfields, and others land anywhere on the spectrum in between, and you never really know which is which until it is put to the test.

So King needs to be double teamed to be stopped, gotcha.

You might want to study how modern defence in the AFL works. All defences try to get aerial support to the line the ball comes in, especially if it is in a dangerous area. This is what King, like every other modern key forward, has to overcome. When Richmond lost Grimes it clearly upset their whole defensive set up right from needing to pull Broad back from up the ground where he had been our best player(only Richmond player in coaches votes) to Tarrant needing to hand over to 18yo Gibcus at times when King got a bit further from goal. The Saints and King exploited this superbly, but you should acknowledge there were two truths in the game. One that King was being well held for 3 quarters with the original setup and the other that he dominated more or less from the point Grimes went off the field injured. Even if say Ben Miller was our sub it might have worked out quite differently, but of course teams rarely carry key backs or intercepting defenders as their sub.

The big KPFs definitely receive the huge offers. Some commentators calling Max the next Buddy. I hope he gets an even bigger contract than Buddy.

How good will this guy get?

I think it's safe to say the new King of St Kilda has arrived.

The potential many people have been raving about for years has finally been unleashed more consistently, across the back half of 2021 and the opening rounds of 2022.

From where I'm sitting, injuries have always been the only thing that could stop this guy becoming an elite key forward and one of the very best players in the competition. But now, possibly earlier than even I expected, he's finally starting to prove it regularly.

Here's a question.

What do the following players have in common?

N Riewoldt
B Fevola
J Brown
M Pavlich
W Tredrea
J Roughhead
J Riewoldt
T Hawkins
J Kennedy
T Lynch
J Gunston
B Brown
J Darling

Apart from being the crème de la crème of key forwards over the past 20 years?

Answer:

1. They all averaged less contested marks per game over their careers than Max King is averaging so far in his career (2.12 per game)

2. None of them kicked at least 4 goals in 2 consecutive weeks within their first 41 games, ie: What Max King just achieved

Side note- Barry Hall and Buddy Franklin would've been on this list except they kicked 4+ in games 39 and 40, one game ahead of King who did it in games 40 and 41. Jeremy Cameron did it in games 31 and 32. Taylor Walker matched King with 4 in games 40 and 41.

Key forwards usually take 4-6 years to start consistently playing great footy. This is King's 4th season (although he missed most of 2019 rookie year with an ankle injury, only playing 5 VFL games). Harry McKay is a good example of this- 58 goals last year in his 6th season, previous best was 26.

The frustrating thing for me as a St Kilda fan, is that I can see King's trajectory unfolding before my eyes, but I don't see any other under 25's at St Kilda who look likely to become elite. So I'm not sure King will have the teammates around him to make the most of his immense abilities. (Although optimistically Clark, Gresham, Coffield and Higgins have shown flashes of brilliance. You never know).

Still this thread is about Max King not the Saints.

How good will King eventually become?

And how will he go this year? Challenge for the Coleman?
Sydney will be rubbing their hands together reading that. They love St Kilda developing key position players for them.

Yeah, apart from injuries, losing Max to another club is the other worry.

He's already the most exciting Saint to watch, it would be incredibly frustrating losing him.

I hope Ben stays at Gold Coast long term and Max stays at St Kilda- both clubs need it, on field and off.

The new King of St Kilda has arrived you say...

The Swans are already licking their chops in anticipation of moving him up north in the coming years.

In all seriousness, geez he looks good. Love the contested marking big fellas and he's got that in spades!

Yeh so you needed to double team him to stop him, very impressive that that attention is required for a 21 year old. Thanks for explaining it

His ground level stuff impresses me more than the aerial stuff. Going to be a nightmare matchup in the near future.
It was something that was said when we drafted him but had no idea he’d be that good below his knees. Ridiculous for a guy his size.

It’s good to know we have a member of he King family posting on this thread. Hi Max King’s mum. 😂
Do you just exist to hate on Max King? He played a good game against your mob and could be a potentially a non-factor next week. This thread is definitely being made too early but would you be all over him if St Kilda had played anyone else? Good defenders will get the best of him some weeks but he's already proven to be a match winner multiple times now.

The Tigers not averse to picking off the odd Saints star over the years. It all started with the best Full Back ever to play the game, Vic Thorp, who the Saints laughably rejected before he went on to win 2 flags, 2 x Champion of the Colony Awards(best player in Victoria that season,) 14 x state representative, amongst many other accolades, whilst playing for the Tigers. He retired the VFL games record holder with over 260 games by the mid 1920’s. No wonder tha Saints have won just one flag, and that by a solitary point, in their entire sorry history.

Then after Thorp there appears to have been something of a hiatus before Ian Stewart paved the way for Stephen Rae, Michael Malthouse, Ian Sartori and Jeff Dunne, to name a few.

So whilst the Swans are likely to go all out for Maxy King, don’t rule that humble little club that hales from world sport headquarters at The Swinburne out of the running. 😁

LOL. You are essentially saying the same things I am saying then claiming I hate him for saying it. 😂

I take it you are just a boy, so you are forgiven. All of my errors in life were when I was young too. I was late for school once. 😁

You definitely were hating because you kept coming back to this thread for no reason other than to try and discredit Max.

An example of you trying to discredit him for no reason other than he tore your team up in the 4th quarter when you couldn't double team him effectively. I'd also like to point out that when St Kilda's midfield started to win the contest and spread, that it lead to better opportunities for Max to shine, Grimes and Tarrant did well but if he that midfield play for most of the game then he would've had a bigger impact than just the last quarter.

When all you do is reveal facts, are you unfairly discrediting someone?

King has nothing to apologise for, I am happy to say that. It seems this is not enough for some. There are reasons things happen in games at certain times but not at others. You seem offended by me pointing out the apparent reason King fired in the 4th term but was very quiet beforehand. Don’t be. 😁

Did Max King unplug your alarm clock?

The only reason you seemed to have pointed these out is to discredit him, it wasn't a constructive comment at all and it comes off as you being bitter towards him for winning the game off his own boot. If you had maybe actually tried to point out where he went wrong instead of just saying "iF iT wAsN't fOr gRiMes gETtiNg iNjuRed....." You were simply making excuses as to why he played well in the last quarter than crediting your own team for winning the midfield battle which allows your defence to set up with more freedom. Grimes getting hurt helped him no doubt, but it wasn't the sole reason for King to play so well in the last quarter.

LOL. Explain to us the difference then….between someone posting salient facts that at least partially explain exceptional looking performance on the one hand, and someone posting only to discredit the player who apparently performed exceptionally?

What signs do you look for to tell the difference between the two with so much certainty? 😁
