I agree. Didn't see the game, but what they showed on 7 news last night, it looked like Rooke was just standing there when Roo ran into him. Will be very unlucky to get rubbed out IMO, but I guess if Stokes can get 4 weeks for what he did in the NAB Cup, then anything is possible.
Exactly - OzLotto IMO.......

Roo charged in head down, Max was actually slowing and near stationary when contact made, and pulled back straight away. No intent.
Worst case one week by the idiots on the tribunal under their Oz Lotto method of "points allocation" - seems more like Bingo at the Elwood RSL sometimes....

Maybe Rooke will receiving the same mutual c**ksucking that went on about Judd - both coaches, opposition players, tribunal members all saying what a wonderful person he is before the case was heard. Real impartial.

By any sane law he would get off. Ricciuto ran into him, not the other way around. Rooke was standing still. You should be allowed to hold your ground.

I think they tend to judge it on the damage done, unless your name is Judd.

Roo was taken out of the game so he'll probably get a week or two

If past decisions are anything to go on then one week I'd say.
The incident the other week with the Freo player seemed far worse to me yet he only copped one week, so any more then that for Rooke would be pretty harsh I think.

Having said that though, this is the match review panel, so could be anything from one week to life, reckon they just draw the penalty out of a hat.

And they sure would like to try and throw a spanner in the works and knock us down a peg or two.

They hate head high contact and Rooke didnt show enough duty of care, meaning he probably saw the contact coming and didn't try and evade it.

He'll get a week.

Not sure about that, don't know why they'd want to "knock us down a peg or two" but the decisions of the match review panel have been bewildering to say the least, so it's anyones guess what they'll come up with; hopefully no more then one week which seems the standard penalty for this sort of incident now.

Duty of Care?
First duty is to yourself - Roo came in hard head down and Rooke braced.
Just because Roo ended up worse off should be irrelevant.
But again - not getting my hopes up.
Luckily the umpire on the spot deemed it only free kick worthy and not reportable. Which means he saw the incident and judged it high but not with intent. Should count for something.

They have given Rookie a week with his good record.
Take it I rekon.

Tend to agree but the club might view it a bit differently depending what the cost of not taking it is - if it contesting just means 180 points instead of say 110 points they might make a run for it.

Rooke Offered 1 Week

From afl.com.au:

GEELONG'S Max Rooke faces a one-week suspension after being charged by the match review panel.

Rooke was charged with bumping or making forceful contact from front-on against the Crows' Mark Ricciuto during the third quarter of Sunday's game.

Due to his existing five-year good record (subject to confirmation on Tuesday by AFL Victoria of his VFL record) his sanction was reduced from 250 demerit points – or two games suspension – to 187.52 points and a one-match ban.

If he takes it to the tribunal and is found guilty, he would get a two-week sanction.

What do you think , does this mean Mooney is safe with his slap or are they still looking at it.

Oh please!! That was weaker than Sam Newmans famous slap.

Imo, that slap was Mooneys way of saying "Hey mate, I have to hit you, but in this case it's your lucky day and I'm not going to hurt you".

Agree completely. Can't believe something that was largely not his fault could be worth two games. If it was Mooney it would probably have been a public execution.

I think he was unlucky given the way contact happened but that's life sometimes - if it had happened earlier in the year it probably would have been 4 weeks.

By the way did anyone notice that Bomber called him "Jarrad" in his post-game interview?

From the Herald Sun's website...
GEELONG'S Max Rooke will miss this weekend's match against Brisbane after he accepting a one-game ban for bumping.

Rooke was charged for his front-on bump on Adelaide captain Mark Ricciuto in the third quarter of Sunday's match at AAMI Stadium.

His hit left Ricciuto dazed and groggy and forced him from the field.

Ricciuto did not return in the final quarter, with Adelaide trainers seen working on his back.

The Cats host the Brisbane Lions at Skilled Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

In other incidents, the match review panel decided no further action should be taken over contact between St Kilda's Steven Baker and the Kangaroos' Brent Harvey, between Melbourne's Ben Holland and Collingwood's Anthony Rocca and between Melbourne's Aaron Davey and Collingwood's Brodie Holland.

There will be no tribunal today.
